Let me tell you certain things about this movie that you guys missed, 1. The starting disco song's name is Om Shanti Om itself, and the actor originally dancing on the song is Ranbir Kapoor's father and Kareena Kapoor's uncle, his name is Rishi Kapoor. 2. The scene where srk taunts the girl beside him after getting Rishi Kapoor's jacket is the director of the film Farah Khan. 3. The scene where Om saves Shanti from the fire during shooting actually happened in the sets of Mother India, where the heroine of the film Nargis actually got stuck in fire and Sunil Dutt the hero of the film saved her from fire, later Sunil and Nargis got married and had their son Sanjay Dutt. Also you guys can watch Mother India the film, it's a film that changed Indian cinema forever. 4. The reason Pappu suggested Om to change his surname in the beginning of the film, is actually a dig taken on the bollywood film industry which is infamous for its partiality towards film family and giving them more priority rather than outsiders, basically Nepotism. Not all nepo kids are bad, tho, like Alia, Ranbir, Kareena they are great actors, but some nepo kids are really bad and don't deserve to get films. So, changing the surname was kind of a roast on the industry's partiality, especially because SRK and Deepika are both outsiders. 5. The story of Shantipriya getting killed by her husband, actually has a conspiracy theory with real life, since in earlier bollywood some actresses in 60s and 70s would suddenly go missing or found dead at an young age not long after these actresses got married, so suspected that some of the husband of those actresses actually murdered them out of jealously and stuff. That's why the film is mainly set in the 70s.

This has so many bollywood references that if you are not indian or don't know much about bollywood movies you won't get it.. even the costumes were taken as it is from 70s bollywood heroes.. 1. Opening song om shanti om was from movie karz which is also a reincarnation movie. The hero rishi kapoor is ranbir kapoor's dad and the director subhash ghai of that movie made the cameo is opening song and also he presented the award along with rishi kapoor to srk. Even the song sunne walo was inspired from karz where the whole plot of the movie were sung by the hereos. 2. The fire scene was inspired from real life bollywood incident where nargis was stuck in fire and sunil dutt saved her and got burned like srk.. they fell in love and are sanjay dutt's parents. 3. That "friendship me no sorry no thank you" dialogue was from maine pyar kia a blockbuster salman Khan movie which was directed by suraj barjatya whose younger self was shown along with his dad writing that dialogue when srk said it to deepika. 4. Dhom tana song had scenes cut from old bollywood movies ... 5. Also 'isi jhoomer ke niche milegi shanti ki lash' plot was inspired from a dilip kumar movie called madhumati 6. Dard e disco was ment to be a non sense song originally but javed akhtar the renowned writer wrote the lyrics and made even darde disco iconic. 7. Deepika's voice was dubbed as farha khan didn't like her dialogue delivery which was understandable because deepika wasn't familiar with acting then. 8. The earlier generations of bollywood had a thing about changing names.. that totally dependend on producers to change it or not according to trend. 9. Because someone mentioned it somewhere and I to noticed it so many years after the movie released that the roses on shantipriya head were 2or 3 when she died but sandy had her full side covered with roses which is what om saw before shanti died.

This movie is amalgamation of several Bollywood classic. Efra, they didn't smell the gasoline because this movie is set in past and I guess it was the 60s or 70s where the most common oil people used called 'Mitti ka Tel' in hindi was a colourless odourless liquid. Many accidents happened because of that. It was commonly used in houses to light up stoves. Many times children would drink it thinking it was water. Then they added odour into it.

The unbelievable elements of this movie are on purpose, its a play on older 1970s and before bollywood. The time jump is what really old bollywood films would do, same with past life etc, Om Shanti Om is both a tribute and tongue in cheek parody of old Bollywood and it was made with this intent, it was also criticised for doing this at the time of its release.

they really played with subtleties here and I love them! In the final sequence, Sandy has all 5 roses in her hair, but the ghost Shanti only has 2 roses, because when Mukesh originally pushed her on the floor earlier before killing her, some of the roses fell out of her hair. Also, I hope you caught that one shot of Shanti watching Mukesh during the final song, foreshadowing everything that was to come.
