Technically it was her second movie and her debut in Bollywood. She debuted in acting with a Kannada film the year before Om Shanti Om. Still, I agree with everything else you said.

Om Shanti Om has LOTS of references and takes from old Bollywood including Shahruk Khan's own movies. Its almost like a parody of old Bollywood. It also has many cameos from big stars of their times. The fire sequence where Om saves Shanti for the first time is an actual event happened to Sunil and Nargis Dutt (Sanjay Dutt's parents). Sanjay Dutt even made cameo in it.

Really great to see you reacting to this, thank you. Om Shanti Om is a tricky choice of a first HiFI movie to watch, because it’s wall-to-wall with film homages, callbacks, and industry in-jokes. For example, the opening scene with the hero dancing on a giant turntable is footage of “Om Shanti Om,” a song from Karz (1980); this movie takes its name from that song. You also guessed right about the varying quality of footage in the second song (“Dhoom Taana”) - those are clips from classic films, into which Deepika Padukone has been digitally added - and yes, the celebrities in the Filmfare Awards scene and song (“Deewangi Deewangi”) are all real celebrities playing themselves (or comic versions of themselves). And the scene where Om saves Shanti from an on-set fire is based on an actual incident that happened during the filming of Mother India (1957), involving the actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis. By the way, if you *do* watch Sholay, make sure to watch the director’s cut! (It’s 204 minutes long; the 198-minute version is censored and has a different ending.)

There were a lot of references that'd have been hard to get because this movie is regarded as a spoof/parody/funny tribute to Bollywood with some of the most common tropes involved. If you wondered why Shanti didnt get reincarnated is because in Om Shanti Om, Shanti is only once and Om is twice. Its not Om Shanti Om Shanti. It is Om Shanti Om, So Om got reincarnated but not Shanti.

Yes, he's reaching towards their feet. In India the young pay respect to their elders by touching their feet, in turn the elders are supposed to lay a hand on their heads and bless them with good wishes called Aashirwaad. Modernised to today, the elders usually stop the young from going all the way down, and choose to embrace them as equals. However in traditional pooja ceremonies and the like the traditional Aashirwaad ritual is still observed properly. (I'm not from India but of Indian descent and even here in Fiji we Indians observe these traditional Hindu practices when appropriate)

First reaction of yours I'm seeing, this is a good reaction especially for someone who is so new to Indian cinema! It seems like you'll catch tropes and cultural references real fast. Once you've seen more movies and you can recognize more actors you'll have to rewatch the Filmfare Awards scene and the song with all the cameos so that you can appreciate it ever more :-) The director of Om Shanti Om, Farah Khan, started as a choregrapher. She choreographed Dil Se (1998), also with SRK, one of my all time fav movies. All the musical numbers are incredible. The movie is a political romance/drama that is a bit divisive but often considered a masterpiece. It was directed by one of the most renowed directors in India (Mani Ratnam). I would recommend watching it 😊 Other SRK movies I'd suggest are My Name Is Khan, Swades and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Sholay is a timeless classic. If you can watch the restored version! To answer your question about greeting elders, yes people bend down to touch the feet. I'm interested to see what you'll choose to react to next!

U said u wanted to be in a movie theatre where everybody is dancing. Well, please come to india during the release of a srk movie. Actually, if u can, please come on 7th September, when SRK’s new movie Jawan is releasing. If u had come in January, u would have seen crowds of people on roads, saying “hail srk”, cutting cakes, dancing, doing fan shows, etc on the release of Pathan(the biggest movie of Bollywood ever). But u still have 2 chances this year, one during September and the other on 22nd December, cuz SRK’s ‘Dunki’ is coming. That movie has a great chance to win an Oscar, cuz the director is Rajkumar Hirani who has made 3 idiots,Munna bhai mbbs, pk, Sanju, lage raho Munna bhai. And each one of his movies are blockbusters. He is like the biggest and the best director in india, with 100% track record. And he is coming for the first time with Srk, so it’s gonna get wild

You NEED to start watching recent Bollywood (hindi language) movies. Om Shanti Om is a bollywood spoof movie that is filled with references for everyone who is familiar with Bollywood. Absolutely not the first hindi/bollywood movie you should watch. I would recommend you watch the movies "KAPOOR AND SONS" and "PADMAAVAT" next 😍🙌 Also just wanna add films like KGF, Bahubali etc are overhyped CRINGE movies from regional industries (i.e not bollywood)

My name is khan Swades Veer zaara Dil se Chak de India Chennai Express There are also two other khan's in Bollywood who's working for almost 30 years in the industry along with srk! man the director did some nolan stuff reincarnation charecter name om shanti in film they were making om shanti om and the real film named also om shanti om you missed some references like 1. at first om said someone to take govinda as screen name to become a star it actually happened with real life govinda the superstar cameod also in the film 2. akshay at award show saying this award show is fraud in real life he didnt got any award from major film awards so they used that fact 3. the journey of hindi film industry shown here like after 30 years he bacame a star not because of his talent or hardwork just because he is the son of a superstar , nepotism issue is real in bollywood 4. the star charecter srk playing himself he said i will buy this house he did that in real life too by buying mannat btw he is not a nepotism star 5the music you heard at abhishek bachans cameo was also used in rab ne bana di jodi but was originally from real DHOOM franchaise bollywoods fast and furuious dhoom 2 is my fav hrithik in it do watch that 5. he said somewhere in the movie my chilhood friend directed this movie F. KHAn (referencing farah khan who actually directed om shanti om ) hollywood make good content but its very boring for us as we are very loud and adrenaline loving country and many more facts that I forgot
