the first real mechanical failure on the mercedes end of my jeep. easy fix but we had some fun with it and figured out a nasty problem that had a drastic effect on the jeep. the hidden monster. a rotten primer pump

Well - time to get it repaired on the 1975 406 (OM352) that we have. It has been stumbling and losing fuel pressure for months now. Thank you for the head's up!

I just started having issues two days ago starting my the om617 in my bronco ii. I would have to pump the hand primer to start it and sometimes the engine would be way down on power. The om617 swap Facebook page led me to the lift pump and rebuild is on the way. I just can't believe the chances of waking up to a notification of you working on the same thing.. crazy!

Very timely video, I just picked up a 7.5mm super pump for mine and was looking at rebuilding the lift pump before I swap it.

Never knew that primer pump could Disintegrate and cause such a problem like that it’s cheap and easy it may not be a bad idea. To just replace the primer pump at least

@@AlfonsLC I’ve been throwing money at parts for over a year I doubt I’ll stop now so I’ll probably be ordering this on payday. Especially since the engine is dangling from the cherry picker and access is easy.

@@rexford71 good idea. They are old. Get everything while you can get at it. Mercedes source is my favorite place for this engine. Doomsday diesel also seems like a good guy. I may get somethings from him too. When you think yours will be done ?

@@AlfonsLC well, if the weather here cooperates and my carpal tunnel doesn’t tear me up too badly, I’m hoping in a month or so, maybe sooner. I literally don’t have much else I could possibly buy for this thing aside from a full rebuild kit which I don’t want to do lol. My main hang up is the motor mounts. I’ve seen all kinds of issues with the factory mounts in the jeeps from the swap group on Facebook. Doomsday is great, he is like a magician with these things, and part of the reason I’ve maxed out my credit card 3 times in the last year lol. I know once I get it paid off again his serpentine belt conversion will be done and I’ll be maxed again 🤣🤣🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ I just don’t have anyone to help which makes it difficult and slows things down considerably.

you got any idea what the fuel inlet to the lift pump fitting is? Fixing up a TJ with the OM617. Using AN6 fuel lines.. trying to figure out how best to do the fuel inlet. and inline filter. Is that a big M12 to nipple on the inlet to the pump orr?

Sorry man. Really forget that detail. We used all the factory lines for the 4 banger i remember for sure. And i remember right we just went with some rubber hose with good tight clamps. Been driving it for years now. Never a problem.

Do you have intentions of doing the 7.5mm injection pump and or turbo upgrade

Not anytime soon. But maybe someday right now I just want it in perfect mechanical working order with no leaks and so forth. The first thing I’m going to upgrade before the summer is the cooling system for the coolant and oil

Need help primer pump is staying down when the engine is on then in about 15 seconds engine shutdown

You may need a nee primer and lift pump rebuild. This same problem can cause that. Check out mercedessoure.com
