My mom’s side of the family has lived in Omaha as long as I can remember, and I’ve visited it more times than I can count. It’s always been a favorite of mine. The zoo is almost always the highlight of our visits

I grew up for 30 years in "The Big O". I left in '79 and have been to dozens of cities around Europe & Central/South America where I live now. Life has been a rollicking good adventure and having seen so much, I often think how fortunate I was to grow up in the real America. The good it did in the formation of my character has never failed me.

The Omaha zoo battles San Diego as the top zoo in the country on most rankings. With that said, it doesn't have panda bears... She doesn't think bats are as cute as pandas?

The zoo did financials on pandas from China and determined that there was no way to contribute to conservation of the species and no way to break even on the cost of displaying them. So, no pandas.

Tornados go through that region annually can't build too high.

Thats not really a major concern when it comes to tall buildings. North Texas is just as, if not more, prone to tornadoes as eastern Nebraska, yet Dallas has 30 buildings in the 25-50 story range and 10 over 50 stories, to Omaha's two (soon three), and zero, respectively. The reason is just that land values and demand for office space in Downtown Omaha aren't high enough for a lot of developers to deem it worth the major extra expense of building super tall buildings.
