So we did something cool in Sacramento. We invited novice lifters to come to Untamed Strength and coach them for free. While there, I met an Untamed member named Joseph who was new to deadlifting. Over the course of 20 minutes, we managed to have him hit a 25lb PR with plenty of room left in the tank. Learn first the essential basics of deadlifting with efficient technique and secondly, how to coach an individual in person. There is a huge difference between being an IG Coach and coaching individuals in person. Simplicity, tactile cues and feedback are all essential. If you want to see more live coaching sessions for different movements, like this video and leave a comment below!

How did you work around your hernia to build you deadlift up again? I dont feel it in squats as torso is not as close to thighs but man trying this setup really puts pressure on groin area... Any fixes??

I'm a novice lifter, having only lifted for 14 months with the help of a kinesiologist/trainer at a local gym in Vancouver, Canada. This video has helped solidify my understanding of how to correctly do a deadlift. I'm now up to a 1-rep max of 180 lbs after 3 weeks of my first 5-week strength-training cycle (started at 165 lbs). Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, Omar!

I cannot manage to do a consistent deadlift without my back feeling like I’m going to hurt it again. Hurt my back twice in the first couple months I was lifting doing deadlifts, never had a problem the years of lifting I have done before I had to start back over this time around. I have no problem squatting 315 for 6 but a 250 lb deadlift is enough to start cranking on my back. I’ve watched every deadlift video and can’t find anything that helps.

To be honest this is the best deadlift tutorial ive ever watched. My deadlift is always felt like shit since i started deadlifting a year ago. I can only deadlift like 425 pounds right now, but i feel like those cues in this video can help me a lot for progressing in my deadlift. Thanks, Omar!

Great coaching Omar. These tips will definitely help me since I’m a beginner. I need to cue “knuckles down” more on deadlifts and I need to keep my wrists neutral during all my compound lifts. 25 pound PR tho💪🏻

this is the best kind of tutorial video! Most videos I have seen in the past was you doing the movement and explaining it which is cool but actually watching you coach someone, who is obviously still learning, through the movement is awesome!!! very helpful

@asd fgh Well I'm not fully setting up for every rep, once I get the first one my form relaxes a bit and that actually helps me. I think the big thing is that it's one of my subconscious cues. I pulled 415 rolling it but can't even get 405 without the roll. I just pull until my back gives out
Omar, The happiness around you when he deadlifted was great! I could see you have the way. Great video as I can always get more knowledge. Thank you.

Im a PT at a little gym in the uk and i find that teaching someone to RDL with dumbbells before conventional deadlift is much easier. After they can hip hinge with a straight back without bending their knees to much, i put them on the barbell n tell them to imagine doing an RDL down, then bend knees a tiny bit more to get lower, then grab the bar. Iv found that this puts them in the perfect starting position
@Lb-ri5wr4 жыл бұрын
@SpiritWolf2K yeah, most normal people struggle benching a plate, (even just 5kg on each side) when they first start just due to the instability. First session for 90% of people with me, I just get em doing dumbbells for everything

Cool to see a video somewhat directed towards coaching rather than a simple beginner's guide. On that note i was wondering if you could consider making a video on cueing, internal vs external cues and pretty much anything else you deem important. I have a similar starting position like him (parallel to the ground) but lots of other youtubers say to lower the hips or bring the hips closer to the bar so you get a more upright torso position. I need some unprofessional and unlicensed medical advice. Was deadlifting on Friday, very routine weight, nothing major was going for 3 reps on the 2nd rep felt my lower middle back pinch immediate acute pain. I foam rolled a bit, pain was mangeable. So I did some power cleans and squat jumps with light dumbbells in place of actual squats. Did the treadmill everything seemed fine except for the tender/sore/tight feelign of my lower back. Next day when I was brushing my teeth I slightly bent over and felt that same pinch feeling and this time the pain worsened and then later than night in the middle of my sleep that same pinch feeling. Now the pain is worse can't lift my leg while sitting or lying without pain, pain when just sitting or sleeping. I'm assuming this is a herniated disc, but with just rest will this go away or does my broke ass need to go to the doctor?

After seeing this video yesterday, I decided to hit the gym after two months of recovery due to my endoscopic resection operation. Go to the gym, remember all the cues from Alan and from this video and as I was doing my lifts this Coach stops me to ask me what I'm doing. -Deadlift I say. -No, no, you are doing it wrong Then proceeds to show me how to do a Romanian Deadlift. And say, you shouldn't bend your knees when you're setting for it. I guess just need to find a better gym. My previous numbers before the operation and losing 10kg, were 115kg x 5 reps @ 70kg bw

Isn't the new lifter's low back a bit rounded or is that just me? I'm not a coach. It was the first thing I noticed about the new lifter when he lifted the weight or actually before he lifted it off the floor. Many new (male) lifters don't know how to hinge and so they round their low back. I had the same issue when I started lifting and my coach spent probably a session on teaching me how to hinge properly. I didn't have the body awareness to hinge and had to learn it. It is one of the most fundamental things to learn when lifting and is very useful in life in general to keep your back healthy. Many new lifters have a sort of squatting motion when deadlifting.

It almost looks like he's doing a clean pull instead of the deadlift. Once he gets past his knees, his knees start to come forward a little bit before locking his hips out. He should try to fix that.
