I think it is valuable to learn how top lifters execute their lifts. In this video we have 11x World Record Holder Stefi Cohen breakdown how she deadlifts. Please note she is not saying YOU should didn't like this but rather this is how she does it. She has squatted 407lb, benched 210lb and deadlifted 525lb at around 121-125lb bodyweight. Who do you want to see next in this series? If you enjoyed this tutorial make sure to like the video!

Thanks to this video I'm finally able to deadlift. I've been trying, and failing for months to do the conventional deadlift due to bad form, bad flexibility, and a bad lower back. I saw this video yesterday, and tried it at the gym last night. I was able to lift extremely comfortably with zero back pain. I guess my body is just not designed for conventional. Sumo for life!

"If you can't, you must" Deadlift motion is important in real life if you ever have to pick things up. Figure out what is fucking you up and fix it. Also don't let ego get int he way, if you can only deadlift the bar without bad pain and good form, then deadlift the bar. No shame for starting from scratch. Even if you never get an impressive deadlift, working in your range will make you less likely to get hurt out of the gym too.

I don't understand all of the hate for Sumo Deadlifts. If you look at it as a DIFFERENT exercise than the traditional deadlift you'll see it has benefits in your training program. I do Sumo Deadlifts on my leg days after squats and I can tell you it kills my legs. But I see Sumo as more of a leg focused deadlift with less back involved (but there's still back involved, just like doing squats). I do Deadlifts actually on my back day, because it's more of a full body workout that focuses on everything from legs to back almost evenly. You can realistically do traditional deadlifts on a back day or a leg day. People need to stop hating on Sumo Deadlifts and start doing Sumo and Traditional in their work programs. You'll see the benefits from both.

Thank you so much! I’m naturally strong with a 1rm of 375lb. I attempted 400lb and went forward. Now I’m trying to learn proper lifting techniques and actually train. My 375lb 1rm is pretty much my natural strength. I never knew how strong I was until I dabbled in CrossFit. When I fired weights people were amazed. After attempting 400lbs and falling forward, I decided that I would actually train and learn as much as possible. I feel I could have lifted the 400lb had it did it properly bc I got the weight off the ground easily. My back was killing me the next day though.

That's the first time I've ever heard someone say they have a stronger conventional than sumo that frequently trains both or have giving both lifts decent attention to make the comparison. As someone with a reasonable conventional deadlift, I completely respect sumo lifters. Why? Cause I pulled my damn groin muscles trying to sumo just three plates. If the situation was reversed and I couldn't conventional pull three plates, but could sumo well over four, you bet your ass I'd be pulling sumo every deadlift day. You wouldn't diss a man for gripping wide in a bench or bending over (with a straight back) in the squat, so why should you criticize someone's preferred deadlift stance?
@jrmayun6 жыл бұрын
Lol I had that same thing happen to me after I neglected some hip mobility work. Convetional and sumo are basically the same for me right now but I'll probably do my next cycle with sumo cause it's easier on my back. My glutes get so fired up though
@tjmaxwell216 жыл бұрын
Sumo places the center of mass closer to your midpoint while conventional COM is in front of you forcing you to use more of your posterior chain including more back muscles. It is undoubtably easier to perform a sumo deadlift comparing with the same weight load.
@aakashsunil79134 жыл бұрын
@Sheldon Julius It may be be easier in the long run, but you have to put the time in to develop your sumo, usually, before it surpasses conventional. If it were a sinple switch and pull way more situation, so many more gym bros would switch to sumo. If they're happy doing quarter squats and benches, they would have no problem doing sumo if it were immediately easier.
@crazysmilingdonut8043 жыл бұрын
@Sheldon Julius Sumo ist way way harder for me even though I have a really good hip mobility. I lift 70kg more with conventional DL. I train DL (Conventional&Sumo) since 7 years know and sumo is still terrible

1. "Based on the chest"? What the fuck? 2. Gear doesn't automatically give you a certain level of strength. Gal Godot added some muscle for Wonder Woman and was pregnant so they had to put some green screen thing on her stomach. If you watch her in the Fast and the Furious films, you will see how she gained some muscle.
@knight64 жыл бұрын
If Stefi can get some acting lessons, might not be a bad idea for her to be a Wonder Woman in a Netflix series or when Gal Godot decides to move on from Wonder Woman. Perhaps she can be in a Fast and the Furious film as well. Hollywood likes women at least 5’5” and Stefi might be a little short for their standards, I guess she’s 5’1” or so though Jennifer Love Hewett was also small and did well on TV and some films.
