Hi everyone 👋 I know this video isn’t up to my usual standards🫤 This is the first video I’ve made since my surgery and I’m still recovering. I’m feeling better but it’s hard for me to sit up for long periods, so editing and filming this wasn’t easy. Production will be back to normal in a few weeks when I’m fully recovered. Thank you for understanding, Elle

I owned 1 Omega (Planet Ocean). It was a bit bulky but really nice looking. I had trouble with it and sold it for $4k. I used that to buy Breitling Superocean Heritage II with it. The Breitling is still my favorite of all my watches but I'm really wanting to try Omega again. I want the green Seeamaster 300, but it's a bit out of my range at this time.

It really is about the relationships we have over time with our timepieces. Fall head over heels, sometimes finding the cost of the transaction to be too high for what u get out of it, and only sometimes finding a great fit and relationship. BTW, it’s good the AT costs more than Seamaster 300 instead of the other way around.

Glad you’re on the mend! I bought a new Planet Ocean late last year and love it. Like you mentioned, the accuracy of their movements is incredible. Mine is +.08 seconds, which is nuts for an automatic. And just some additional info on the HEV, they aren’t really there for divers, but we’re added for people who spend time at crazy depths in adjusted atmospheres (like lots of extra helium). The HEV prevents the crystal from popping off during the decompression ascent. Science!!

The Aqua Terra thing is simple, that 8900 movement took a lot of development costs that still need to be paid back with a higher sales price based on paying a premium for the time zone functionality.

I agree with a lot of what you said... except for the "pie pan" dials. I see the Globemaster as the stand out line in the Constellation range, with a distinctive '50s vibe. I'd agree that it's not for everyone, but I'm glad Omega still makes them, & personally I find them much more my style than the "regular" Constellations, which are a little ostentatious for my taste.

I love your video and agree with almost everything you said, except that I personally love the escape valve on the Seamaster models. It serves no purpose, but it makes the watch special. It's always good to hear your views Elizabeth. On this one I can completely understand the likes and could do betters. What we like or dislike about certain design options is also great as that is what makes the hobby amongst us nerds so much fun. We respect others views even if we do not agree with them. What I do like about Omega is that it gives us more options than many, this as you mention can also be a negative with too much choice. The Rolex configurator is a better way to narrow the options down. Great work and many thanks for sharing.

There are clear reasons why Aqua Terra costs more than Seamaster 300. First of all, the price difference is quite moderate especially taking into consideration that the AT movement is more complicated. It has two barrels that provide longer power reserve and most importantly more even distribution of torque throughout the unwinding. It also has independent hour hand that allows to easily adjust time when travelling (same hour hand quick adjustment people pay for in GMT movements). It’s more than enough to justify the tiny price difference.

Agreed. That's why i only have a Speedy Pro, and an old SM300 165.024. New SMP 300 really needs a design overhaul and in general Swatch needs to improve the way they manage Omega's brand equity.
@jsampagaerice
@jsampagaerice Жыл бұрын
I thought the same way regarding the SMP300, I didn't think I'd like the escape valve and that's what turned me off the watch for a good while. I was able to snag one in a killer deal. I will say, I enjoy it more than my Rolex sub date and more than any other diver in my collection. I don't even notice the escape valve 99% of the time. My only grip is the bracelet, it's too dang heavy. The aqua terra is more expensive due to the movement, it has extra power reserve and a jumping hour function. Does it justify a thousand-dollar price hike, I don't think so, but It does deserve an increase with the added improvements.

I think the way Rolex displays watches on their website makes it seem like they have fewer options - however if you take the Datejust and look at all the variations, there are probably just as many or the same as Omega. Think of the almost countless variations you can make when it comes to Datejust: Size (28, 31, 36, 41), bezel (smooth, gold, diamond), bracelet (oyster, jubilee), dials (countless), material (steel, gold, two-tone). If you worked out all the variations it is an enormous catalogue

The helium escape valve is for saturation diving. It has nothing to do with the depth rating of the watch. The valve is used during decompression in a dry diving bell. If you were to use a diving watch that didn't have a helium escape valve for saturation diving there would be high chance the crystal would pop off.

I don't think they are underrated at all. They have the third biggest market share trailing rolex and cartier. Clown territory certainly stands for their marketing and choice of ambassadors too. And the nato looks incredibly good too.

My take is that the helium escape valve is perfectly fine; it carries the watch identity; signature. I really don’t understand why people’s conformism lead them to obsess so much about it and call it the wart, cupcake, barnacle, etc… I have a Seamaster 300 NTTD and I find it very interesting and beautiful. The helium escape valve is fine, it makes the watch different even though an automatic helium escape valve, flush with the case, would be preferable to a manual one especially that the crown can be used for letting the helium escape whilst in the dive chamber during the decompression stage…

I agree with the annoyance about the massive size and, even more so, the ever-changing nature of Omega's catalog. They really do throw everything at the wall to see what will stick. It makes me hesitate to buy any of their watches because next year they're going to tweak the model ever so slightly and maybe I will regret owning the old version once the new and "improved" version has come out. I recently passed on buying a white dial SMP 300m because I'm half convinced they may soon ditch the HEV valve, improve the bracelet, and/or downsize the case closer to the original size/thickness, and then I'd be stuck with the old has-been watch instead of the best and newest. It also makes Omega's design language feel more wishy washy since there is no "definitive" version of any particular watch model. Having said that, I've got the same blue denim Railmaster (on bracelet) on my wrist and it's a nicer watch than any Tudor I've tried, with more personality than any of the 12+ Rolexes I've owned and flipped. I can't hate on Omega, I just wish they would narrow their focus and stick to a line of core classics.

First watch person I ever heard say they didn't like the pie-pan dial but I understand what you're saying, I like a flat dial on most watches too. The AT should be prices £750-1000 under the 300m, that's a given, I really never understood how they priced the AT, I think it is better now but it use to be a larger difference. Omegas line up, it's not really that big. Rolex is trying to do what Omega does with Tudor. I discovered Omega ownership last year after having a range of other watches such as Cartier, Swatch, Hamilton, IWC and JLC. I think my Omega Seamaster NTTD is pretty nice and I like the idea to be wearing a bit of George Daniels’ legacy with a co-axial calibre which is COSC and METAS certified. A pity that the certification vanishes after the first service as Omega will not renew it. That’s a pity. I think Onega’s Quality Control should be improved too.

Emotions buy watches. People have emotions. It's as simple as that. If I like a watch, it doesn't matter whether it's Rolex, Omega, IWC, or Monta, Seagul, etc. You usually buy what you like, what you emotionally associate with it the most.

Love: Their boutiques actually treat you like a human being. Hate: They overused the Bond partnership so much that Omega became synonymous w/ Bond fanboys.

Yes, and all that ‘Availability’ is the reason why your Omega(s) is/are worth far less the moment you walked out the store. Where as all my three steel Explorer 1, OP and Sub Rolexes, all brought within the last three years, are worth much much more. I also have an Omega which I love.

I'm just getting interested in watches. And Omega ones look amazing. I think if I ever do by a proper watch, I'll start off with a rail master. I can't call them cheap, but by the standards of amazing watches, I can. And, I think they look great and will be able to cope with whatever I throw at it.

i dont think its a problem to have enough variations of a watch. its only a problem for people who want to identify with a category but nobody cares about your watch anyway :) i would love to have more to choose from the rolex catalogue (for example a brown dial yachtmaster without the gold :)
