Hi Everyone, I'm in the process of experimenting with different content formats, so please bear with me as I understand this video is far from flawless. If you enjoy these types of videos, please leave a comment to let me know. Creating elaborate reviews for you is something I truly enjoy, but sometimes, they can take up to two weeks to produce. Incorporating videos like this into the collection ensures I can deliver more content at a faster pace. Also, I'd like to mention that I completely forgot to include the retail prices in the video. My original intention was to incorporate them as text overlays, but unfortunately, I overlooked that. I do apologize 🙏 I did create characters and added all the retail prices for each watch in the description box. Thanks for watching, Elle ☺️

Take your time Elle, your videos are great as they are but if you're not happy to release a review take your time and release it when you are ready. I know it's always a battle in some cases for quantity over quality. A quick teaser short can get the hook initially with the full video later. Great work as always and in my humble opinion it's worth the wait.

Biggest issue with Ball & tritium is the half-life of tritium is 12.33 years so after about 36 years the lume will be very dim but the watch could easy still be in excellent condition, no option to paint new BGW9. Second point is that of course Seiko made the first auto chrono - as in first to market. Zenith were first to demo one - a single prototype which no-one could buy. Heuer/Hamilton/Buren were first at something I don't recall. So there 😀

Nice one Elizabeth. I have to agree with your views, OK some of them I've not tried but I do agree with the essence. The Aquis is a fantastic range in my book and they are an independent brand, I confess I have a couple. I've loved the Railmaster denim for years but it so far didn't hit the top of my list but I love the understated watch with that great METAS movement. Ball is another that has been on my watch list for arguably longer than it should but other pieces nudged above it when it was time to make a purchase. I love Longines, great honest watches with a finish that is above the price point, confession time I also have a couple from the brand. Great work and production as usual and many thanks for sharing

Great video, agree with the mention of Longines and the Omega Railmaster. I was very pleased to hear Ball get a mention. The Ball Engineer III Marvelight is a great COSC watch, with so many nice dial colours including an emerald green, a deep rich red, and an almost Doxa Orange colour. Laco is a under-rated brand in my opinion.

"Grand Seiko already has a bit of a cult following - Grand Seiko is better than Rolex" - that killed me! 😀 Great selection of underrated watches. I actually sort-of own 3 of them. I have a Zenith Chronomaster and it is my everyday watch. Insanely accurate (< 1 sec/day) My prior everyday watch was a Longines Hydroconquest, but I've been lusting after that Spirit Zulu Time. I might get one if I start travelling internationally again. I love the Railmaster. I don't own one, but I do have an homage (which I use as my cheap travel watch) and would like to get a real one someday. I like the others on your list as well, except for the Cartier tank, but only because it just isn't my style.

The only thing about ball is in 20 years time could they redial the watch when the tritium has died? Or replace all the tubes? Superluminova seems to last forever. Maybe a good episode idea as nobody has covered watch servicing fees or things like which companies would replace tritium tubes. Marathon is another watch company who use tubes from mb microtech. Mb microtech own Traser watches.
@nedflanders3769
@nedflanders3769 Жыл бұрын
@@LukeEdwards-x8c I’ve thought about the same thing.. the tritium has about a 12 year half life, meaning in 12 years it will only be half as bright, and in 24 years it will be 1/4 as bright. I wonder if Ball could refill or replace the tubes, assuming they’re still in business (I’m sure they will be, as they’ve been around a long time).

Great review of underrated watches. I have the Oris Aquis GMT and absolutely love it. The only downside I see is the power reserve is not quite what I'd like it to be. I like many of the watches you mentioned in the $2,500-$3,500 range. I think my next purchase will be a Longines unless I hold out and wait to get the new Omega Seamaster in green which is the one I really want. Tough for me to spend almost $6k at this point in my life on a watch though.

Great vid. Oris is woefully underrated. Their Aquis Caliber 400 beats Tudor's Black Bay in every metric possible, including price. I've been hearing Longines is underrated for decades now, yet nothing has changed. Zenith has great movements, but doesn’t seem to appeal to regular watch people for some reason. Omega's Railmaster is nice but seems to be stuck in the shadows of its Seamaster and Speedmaster brethren. I'm not sure Grand Seiko is underrated any longer. I'm a big fan, but I think their design language and focus on nature motifs has a limited audience in this part of the world. Seiko's chief is on record saying they're trying to find a way to make people fall in love with Grand Seiko, the way some people fall in love with its Swiss competitors. That is, they want Grand Seiko's appeal to be less cerebral (which watch geeks tend to be) and more emotional. It’s all about the little details with Grand Seiko, and Rolex buyers only care about a single detail: a crown on the dial. Who else is underrated? Citizen. But not for long.

I have a brand I think you overlooked: Steinhart. I own an Ocean One 39 and for the money, they're great value . Even their most expensive models would probably be less than what you paid for your Oris, yet one doesn't have to pay Rolex prices for Rolex quality. Though it's vintage, I also own a 1969 King Seiko with the hi-beat movement. Both are quality at a good price for mechanical movements.
@LukeEdwards-x8c
@LukeEdwards-x8c Жыл бұрын
Steinhart has a beautiful build quality - I have the Ocean One 39 too. I think they get overlooked as they are seen as a homage watch brand rather than a stand alone brand. I wish Steinhart would allow some bespoking of their watches - four dial colour choices or four bezel colour choices so they become less of the Rolex Homage. Their watch servicing costs are very reasonable too as standard Swiss movements.

My favorite Longines is the conquest V.H.P Quartz Perpetual Calendar it's so so accurate it's so beautiful as well the thing has a extremely intricate Quartz movement on pare with Grand Sekio I love it it's my go to watch to be honest it's my my only Quartz besides my casio illuminator lol and my citizen chronomaster ECO Quartz powered by light and it's super accurate maybe 1 or 2 seconds a year type of accurate but I still love my Longines conquest V.H.P Perpetual Calendar so yeah I'm so this was so long but man this videos you make really get me excited about watches you do such an amazing job it's super awesome Great content as always Elizabeth 👍 p.s I really love Zenith also I mean there movements alone are works of art. Thanks again for such awesome content keep up.🙂 👍

I can solve one mystery for you, the reason why people don't like Ball watches, or at least the reason why they're not more popular. It's because the name sounds stupid and it's always put into the huge letters on a dial, I don't want to wear a watch that says Ball on it with big giant letters. It looks dumb.

As an overview, the whole watch industry is getting out of hand. These price creeps.... man I'm looking for older watches now, like quartz Bond Seamasters which can still be found at a good price... I agree with you - its amazing to have quartz in the collection. And i can't wait for the bond... my G shock will have quartz competition Brands are really taking liberties....For example i really don't get how a Speedy that i bought a few years ago can cost double now...(i sold mine with no regrets).... its just getting out of hand and i refuse to play.. NO FAIR ! 😂

My G-Shock square is my go to travel watch. I have the GW-5000U and adore the world time function on it. Went to Hong Kong two weeks ago and it was invaluable. Can take any knocks while dragging luggage around airports.

Glashutte Original great brand . JLC certain models are reasonable when you look at their history quality, movement and should be considered top tier.

@@Mega-zi7ys maybe then need to do some reading and look at JLC Westminster Chime. Rolex would never create a masterpiece like that, or JLC Reverso Hybris with 11 complications. I’m a big fan of Rolex but JLC is up there with the best.

I have a 2000 Longines conquest that is by far one of the slimiest watches I have ever seen. Granted it is a battery watch but my god does it slip under a cuff well. I don’t think I have ever seen another on on another persons wrist.

No watch should be more than 1000usd, if it is, it is a jewelry, so are those watches you recommend are jewelry that can be sold in the secondary market for real cash? If not, don’t recommend them to average people

Not a fan of Longines or Oris their designs are off putting to me somehow. Doesn’t seem to matter which watch I look at, something just looks wrong in the proportions or styling. I want to like them, I just don’t.

Omega is second only to Rolex in sales and that's because Rolex produced way better watches up until 5 years ago. Now Rolex is not seen as a watch brand by Joe Public...its a form of jewellery.

Yes Rolex has lost its way. Got both brands... rolex has become jewelry 😢. You can clearly see it in the attitudes . The client base is now too loud like the LV monogram bags. I prefer Omega more now. Purely speedmaster professional and seamaster line for me.

Rolex is too common now. Iconic designs, but the brand has lost its mystique. Nicer brands out there without the £2,000 servicing bill and fly under the radar without fear of being mugged.

Their lugs are too long and they use AR topside which is not good for longevity. They need better product designers.
