I owned a PO with the 2500 C. I sold it in 2011 or 2012. Totally regret it. I also own a 2500 D SMPC Black dial which I bought around the same time. The SMPC is the best watch I ever owned, but I wish I had kept the PO. That generation PO was slim compared to the new versions.

I like the 2500 PO more than the 8500 and subsequent ones...both for the thinner case and the more classic look of the dial and bezel. I would actually really like to find a 45.5 2500 PO as the larger diameter probably would make the case appear proportionately even thinner...I have never seen one in person.

the older planet ocean is really growing on me. Especially in this size.

Interesting that the 2201.50 actually appears smaller than the SMP in real life. That will be my next watch for sure classic omega is beautiful. A really interesting model of that generation PO is the liquid metal limited edition. Apparently the first watch they used the liquid metal on the bezel for. The 2201.50 is selling around 3.5k, that liquid metal edition is 6-7, a true dream watch.

That particular PO you are referring to is truly stunning. I think it was a limited edition as well. Would love to have it as well, but not sure the huge price premium over a 2201.50 is worth it.

You mentioned in your video review of the Planet Ocean that the bezels in the SMPs can get harder to turn as they age; have you found that to be the case with this version of the SMP?
@omegawatchfan28 күн бұрын
The problem with the SMP bezel is the scalloped edges don't provide a great surface to grab when turning the bezel (particularly if your hand is wet or wearing gloves, etc.) and when the high points of the scalloping are worn down, which occurs after many years of wear, this problem gets worse. This is less of an issue on the SMPc because the bezel is thicker on these watches in order to accommodate the ceramic insert. Being thicker, there is more area to grab on the SMPc bezel and it is easier to turn. I have not handled a very heavily worn SMPc so I'm not sure how that would change things. Generally speaking, the scalloped bezels look nice but they are not ideal in function. Not a deal breaker for me though since I love most other aspects of the SMP.

You said something about showing the PO bracelet?
@steveb40122 жыл бұрын
I have variations of these watches, a Casino Royale PO and, a Quartz SMP. Both are great watches but I sometimes regret not buying the 42mm PO.
@omegawatchfan2 жыл бұрын
I like the proportions of the 45mm PO...the larger diameter reduces the apparent thickness of the case, which I consider a big plus. And quartz SMPs are fantastic as well...easy to maintain and built just as well as their automatic counterparts.

Do you know the thickness of the 2201.50 and of the OEM bracelet tapers from 20mm? I’m considering this one and the 2254. From what Iv seen the 2254 is thinner, bracelet tapers better and the watch is overall lighter. I want something with weight but not too light but not a shackle.
@omegawatchfan9 ай бұрын
The 2201 PO bracelet does have a taper, which I believe is the same as the taper on the 2254. The PO bracelet is definitely thicker and heavier, as is the watch head. The 2201 does not feel excessively heavy to me, but it is not a thin watch. As for the 2254, though thin (in a very good way), it does not feel lightweight, but solid and substantial while having a low profile on the wrist.

SMP and PO can coexist peacefully next to each other. I have the predecessor of the SMP in this video, the blue 2220.80 and I had the PO 2201.50. The only reason why it had to leave me was my strong desire for the 1st generation PO chrono with orange bezel. Three dive watches, and all of them from Omega, would have been too much so the 2201.50 was wamrly welcomed by my father. Sometimes I tend to miss that great watch.

Yes they wear pretty similarly as well, the only significant difference is the PO is a little thicker.

I have a PO 2201.50 and a SMP 2264.50 (Peter Blake, in quartz - so it’s a bit slimmer). I like both. The PO is the better watch in terms of readability and depth. My 2264 has sword hands which the SMPC here doesn’t. The skeleton hands look too dainty to me. The PO definitely has a much easier to use bezel, but it’s a touch taller than the SMP. All the new Omegas are much too glitzy for my tastes. The mid-2000’s Omega designs are quickly becoming classics.
@omegawatchfan Жыл бұрын
Agree with you fully! The 2264.50 and 2201.50 are both classics. The Omegas of those years were simply superbly proportioned and I prefer them to the newer models as well.

The PO 2500 is the only one you need. It's elegant, classy, sporty and tool like. The new generation PO's are to bulky and Swatch like.

The SMP ceramic lacks the heritage of the wave dial.. a little bit less iconic.. like a “transition” piece.. I prefer the new one with the laser engraved waves
@omegawatchfan2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate that point of view. I think, in time, if Omega does not make any more Seamasters with plain dials, the SMPc will be considered a unique "experiment" by Omega and my feeling is there will be strong demand for them from collectors.
@ivanmejia68432 жыл бұрын
The SMPc was the first SMP to feature a ceramic bezel, and the only SMP 300 in the lineup without waves. It's a classic already, and prices have been creeping up on these the past few years. It's also thinner than the current SMP, and the Helium Escape valve is not huge like the current model.
