Rare Omega Seamaster Professional Co-Axial - Better than Ceramic?

This is the first reference of the Black Seamaster professional within the bond era. It is a transitional model that bridges the new co-axial movement that was seen within the ceramic versions, while still having the older style aluminum bezel, but that's not all. It also has applied indices, and an updated date wheel font. This watch rocks the best of both worlds. Vintage aesthetic with a modern movement.

Have this exact model in my collection for the last 10 years and you're right, it's a beauty. I've never had it serviced and that 2500D just keeps on ticking and keeping great time. One of my all-time favourite pieces!

@@horologyproject we all have issues! Haha The BB58 is a wonderful watch and very different from the newest SMPC! I would be happy to own either, but in a perfect world Omega would come out with a midsized model about the size of the BB58. That would be on my wrist in a heartbeat!

Managed to pick one up from Goldsmiths pre-owned this week. New dial, bezel and fully serviced and restored by Omega. £3195. £1300 less than new ones (which look plastic imo) and half the price of a new sub. Bargain I'd say.

Good review. Beautiful watch. I have the pre 2018 ceramic and I like the laquared dial. In my opinion the perfect smp would be the one with old wave dial, ceramic bezel and the 41 mm case.

That would be quite the combo. I wonder if your version will go up in value one day since its the only non-wave version. I'm debating pulling the trigger on the new 2018 model. I just wish they didn't increase the size.

Nice variance of the smp and good review, the black window and updated d coaxial is a big upgrade.I have the first ceramic version, with the simple lacquered dial in black. Love the bigger back hipograph and the clean look overall.

One of my favorite versions is the 007 with the lacquer dial and aluminum bezel. You have a good piece. Wear it in good health!

@Horology Project the one you have has the 2500D instead of the 2500C in the 2220.80 (Casino Royale) blue dial and bezel model.

There are some 2220.80 / "Casino Royal" standards that have the 2500D. Serial Numbers greater than 8525xxxx include the D movement. I was fortunate to get a "Casino Royal" with one.

Love this version. Only issues I’ve read about is the Gen 1 movement is not as reliable as later Daniels Co-Axial movements...thoughts?

T G Yes, if I remember correctly, they had different versions of the CO-axial. This has the fixed co-axial movement and was not affected by the problems. Mainly it was lubricate sensitivity issues. Omega made some outlandish claims about the CO-axial movement that they have backed off from.

It is an amazing watch - putting next to a submariner there are unavoidably some similarities, maybe it is the black dial that thrives that. So far it is my favourite daily wear.

This is a great reference. My main issue with Omega is their constant new releases and flooding the market with garbage products which has diluted the brand and confused the regular customer. That’s why I’ve stuck to Rolex. This on the other hand works, works really well.

@@denysk4933 I liked the original Seamaster because it was slim and subtle. The new one is really thick and the laser cut dial isn’t as subtle as the milled face of the original. Just my opinion! 😜
