Thanks for this video! I am looking to purchase a pre bond.. The piece that you wear on the wrist with the mercedes hands is a 36mm, right? I have a 6.5 inch wrist, my most worn watch is the explorer 36. I am not sure whether I should go mid or full size.. Would love to hear your take..
@omegawatchfanКүн бұрын
Thanks for watching! All the pre bonds I have shown in my videos are the 40mm full size version. My wrist is about the same size as yours and I felt the 36mm of this watch was just too small-looking for me by modern standards. I felt the same way about the 36mm version of the Seamaster 300m too. However, other 36mm watches fit me great, such as the Aqua Terra and Rail master. Based on my experience, I would suggest going for the full size for most people.

Did they make a 2564.50 quartz? I have an authentication card with that on it and I'm wondering if they meant 2264.50.
@omegawatchfan7 күн бұрын
It sounds like they made a mistake on the card, which is definitely not unheard of. If it is a 41mm quartz, then it's a 2264.50. The 36mm version has reference number 2262.50.

I'm tempted by the 231.10.39.21.02.001 (the 38mm automatic with 8500 movement and the silver dial) but the bump on the clasp is really putting my off. I can't see how, in hot weather when my wrist swells, it' s not going to press against the protruding bump and be painful or at least uncomfortable to wear.
@omegawatchfan7 күн бұрын
The bump on the clasp may be the single biggest weakness of this watch (or the lack of micro-adjust). I can say that the discomfort for me is most connected to the clasp release buttons and I have observed significant variation between my Aqua Terras in that regard. My white dial one has very sharp corners on the actual buttons which make the watch uncomfortable after a while, while my blue dial one has nicely rounded edges to the clasp buttons and is a lot more comfortable.

I am looking at both versions but I am confused. The Ads on Chrono says the 2016 is the Master Co-Axial and the 2021 says Co-Axial. Did you say the Master was more recent?
@omegawatchfan10 күн бұрын
Omega's nomenclature is very confusing. The Aqua Terra with 8500 movement (dating from around 2008) initially did not say "master" on the dial because they did not have magnetic resistance. Even though there was a minor change to the movement in 2011 offering some magnetic resistance, the dial writing remained the same. Then around 2013, the 8500 movement was further upgraded to have 15,000 gauss magnetic resistance and the dial started reading "Master Co-axial". When the newer 8900 movement came out (year 2017), these movements were METAS certified (a certification process created by Omega which includes anti-magnetic certification) and these watches will say "Co-axial Master Chronometer" on their dials.

I have this watch. I bought it in the Los Angeles jewelry market in 2001 for about $1K out the door. It has been an awesome watch that I have worn nearly everyday. The only downside has been the band. I have the five link version and I've lost count at how many pins I've had to replace. My watch guy in La Jolla said the band on this generation leaves a lot to be desired. I recently picked up a used Planet Ocean GMT. When I took it to my watch builder to have bracelet links added, he remarked on the quality of the new style band and in-house movement on the new watch. Regardless, my original SMP is a keeper; although I would like to update the bracelet in the future to a three link. I agree with so many others who remarked, Omega got it right with this one. I think it's timeless and worthy of a permanent place in their catalog.
@omegawatchfan13 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I'm probably in the minority, but I actually prefer the 5-link (Bond) bracelet compared to the 3-link (Speedy style) because it happens to be more comfortable for me. And while the newer screw-link bracelets are more solid, I find these older ones more enjoyable to wear because they are not as chunky and have more rounded edges. The loose pins are a real issue though. I once had one of these go flying off my wrist when I swung my arm because a pin had fallen out. The watch was unscathed but it could have been much worse if it had fallen off unnoticed. It's good practice to check on the pins every now and then with something like a paper clip to catch a loose one before it becomes a problem.

Have you had any hands-on with the Omega Railmaster? Specifically the latest iteration with the black dial and fauxtina indices?
@omegawatchfan16 күн бұрын
Only with the older one from the mid 2000s, which was exactly like a 1st Gen Aqua Terra, with different dial and no date. The new one appears to me that it would wear like the equivalent Aqua Terra as well, but the dial and less high polished finish give it a more tool watch look. From what I see on the secondary market, they seem like one of the best deals out there for modern Omega. Would like to try one out someday.

Fantastic pickup, proper underrated watches that are finally getting more recognition. These two tones are absolutely stunning, i own one of these on the two tone bracelet and it is my favourite Seamaster by a significant margin. As you mentioned the perfect thickness, and particularly the comfort on the wrist puts all of the later Seamaster 300m divers to shame. The fact that these come with all those different crowns, hands, case backs and clasps make these incredibly interesting to me. Mine has the Mercedes hands too, but apart from that it has the ‘new’ crown, single piece caseback and double clasp. Seeing as yours is possibly one of the earlier ones, does it have the thermocompensated 1441 in it as well? I read that those movements were put in these Pre Bonds for less then a year, would be one helluva pickup.
@omegawatchfan24 күн бұрын
Thank you! I also enjoy the variations with these watches thanks to the changes in the crown, etc. I think the one-piece caseback in particular was a very nice improvement and they seem to be much less common than the older caseback based on what is available for sale. I have not opened this one yet, but when it is time for a battery change I will find out and post my findings. My regular steel version (with the old crown, hands, clasp, and caseback) came to me non-working so I immediately opened that one up and it unfortunately did not have the 1441.

@@omegawatchfan Nice! Definitely keep me updated on that movement should you find the time to do so! One other question if you don’t mind me asking, did this watch receive a new bezel/ bezel insert at some point? I recently purchased a NOS replacement case for mine, and i noticed that the hue of the gold bezel insert markings are a ‘brighter’ hue than they are on my original one. Based on this video, it seems like your bezel markings also appear to ‘pop’ a lot more than the gold of the bezel itself in a similar manner. My original bezel insert markings have a colour that is pretty much identical to the gold of the bezel, i found it quite an interesting observation.

@@carlocadena9925 So my new replacement case for my pre bond arrived today. It is a ‘NOS’ part that my Omega watchmaker had in stock, and it does also have the same exact colour of bezel insert as the one in this video! When i compare it to my old one, there is indeed a distinct colour difference of the gold. Both the bezel insert markings and the gold itself seem to be a lot more vibrant on the new case. I actually like it a lot!

You mentioned in your video review of the Planet Ocean that the bezels in the SMPs can get harder to turn as they age; have you found that to be the case with this version of the SMP?
@omegawatchfan27 күн бұрын
The problem with the SMP bezel is the scalloped edges don't provide a great surface to grab when turning the bezel (particularly if your hand is wet or wearing gloves, etc.) and when the high points of the scalloping are worn down, which occurs after many years of wear, this problem gets worse. This is less of an issue on the SMPc because the bezel is thicker on these watches in order to accommodate the ceramic insert. Being thicker, there is more area to grab on the SMPc bezel and it is easier to turn. I have not handled a very heavily worn SMPc so I'm not sure how that would change things. Generally speaking, the scalloped bezels look nice but they are not ideal in function. Not a deal breaker for me though since I love most other aspects of the SMP.

The one thing I would say that I disagree with you is " saying that the quality is below the Hamilton bracelet".... I would say that the feel/texture/touch is different from the Hamilton or any other bracelet due to its purpose. This bracelet is so comfortable but much thinner that any other bracelet I've ever worn. It's truly different but super comfortable. Other than that, I truly enjoy the video. And thanks to you, I have one on my Pre-2018 no wave black dial. Cheers.

I still prefer the first gen. It’s more elegant. The case isn’t that rounded. And last but not least: todays prices are just insane. I am not willing to spent 6000€ on a watch.
@omegawatchfanАй бұрын
I agree the thinness of the 1st Gen and the flowing lines of the case and lugs really make it an altogether very elegant watch, more so than the subsequent versions. And yes, considering the absurd pricing today, they are a much better deal.
@David-ft7xzАй бұрын
Is the bump on the clasp very noticeable when wearing the older watch or is it something you forget about after a while? I'm presuming as well that it's the same on the older version of the 8500 model - the one with the frame around the date window?
@omegawatchfanАй бұрын
The bump is not very noticeable but the clasp buttons can be, although it varies from watch to watch. On my blue dial one, the corners of the clasp button are not sharp but on my white dial one, they are very sharp and can be irritating. I think it is just a matter of some variation in the finishing of each watch.
@David-ft7xzАй бұрын
If you had to pick one Aqua Terra model of the one's you've handled, which one would you choose?
@omegawatchfanАй бұрын
The blue dial 8500 movement, 41mm size. The dial color is subtle but distinctive and beautiful, and it goes very well with the rest of the design. I also like the case shape of those more than the newer 8900/8800 series. And between 38.5mm and 41mm, I prefer the larger one because I like the proportion of diameter to thickness more on that one (watch feels thinner due to the extra diameter), and I also prefer the 20mm lug width (as opposed to 19mm on the smaller one).
@drazenbabichАй бұрын
The only element the lastest lacques black dial model draws from the 1st gen is the gloss dial, nothing else,. They couldn't be more different. I have all three Gens and prefer the Gen 2 with verical lines dial and Speedmaster type crown guard. Omega has been recently on a crusade to shorten lugs on pretty much all their Seamaster and Speedmaster models to make them more 'wearable' for smaller wrists, but by doing that they have also changed the original elongated geometry of lyre lugs, they definitelly look now more stubbier and less elegant. My personal view, btw...that's all.
@omegawatchfanАй бұрын
That is also why I prefer the 2nd generation (8500 movement) AT over the newer one. I feel many reviewers are indifferent to the change in the lug length, but I immediately noticed that difference when I got the 8900 AT. The watch is more 'stumpy' as compared to the more graceful lugs on the prior versions. I do believe the short lugs improve wearability as the 8900 is an extremely comfortable watch, but that comfort comes at the expense of aesthetics.
