I was on the fence about the 2201.50 for a long time. It was due to 2 things, the movement (anecdotely it seem that there were reports of probems), and something about the hands. I do like the fact that it has a solid caseback. I'm glad you're enjoying your watch, wear it in good health and I hope it give you many years of joy. thanks for watching :)

I wasn't able to see the liquid metal version but I 'm certain it's really very special. Between bracelets and rubber bracelets, for me it's a no brainer, bracelet all the way. Although the rubber bracelet on the PO seems comfortable I prefer the extra heft and appearance of power and strength that the bracelet imparts on the watch. Thanks for watching and let us know how it goes when you get your watch:)

I have the SMP 300M and I wouldn't give it a second thought if anyone offered to trade their PO for my SMP, don't get me wrong, I love the SMP, but I love the PO even more. I love being able to watch (not pun intended) movement as it Works, watching the Balance and the hairspring, it's just amazing. But if you can, get the SMP, by far THE most comfortable watch I've ever worn, and it just does everything I want it to, if it's too take a swim in the Ocean or og bowling, it's magnificent.

lovely review, superb camera work! I had the 8500 PO and 'upgraded' to the 9300, but it's hard to work out whether the 2 subdials and general 'busy-ness' of the dial take away from what makes the PO a really nice watch with some nice references to Omega's past... (and I think that's why they purposefully have the vestigial 'manual' HE valve) I know you called out that you'd prefer a solid case back - and part of me would love to see the Omega Hippocampus on the back of the watch; however I also love being able to see the movement. As 'wearable' tech watches (i.e. Apple watch) start to saturate the market over 2015 and beyond; I can't think of anything better than being able to look at the intricacy of my movement and be reminded of how special mechanical time keeping is. Finally; you gave the watch an 'unconditional' 9, but I think you meant 'conditional', as in a condition of your 9 is that the movement stands the test of time; but I got what you meant :)

I feel sure that George Daniels escapement will be the norm within a few years, it is a simple, elegant and brilliant solution to the enormous reduction of friction and the solving of the problem related to the need to lubricate, with all its attendant need for regular servicing and its eventual clogging of the conventional lever escapement. George was a genius. Omega had the courage to realise a game-changer, and let us not forget, George had peddled this design to all the Swiss watch manufacturers for 20 years before Omega took the risk. What risk! George had been testing it in his own hand made wrist watches for years before. In their recent ads, Omega appear to take all the credit for the Co Axiol movement. Shameful!
@3691689 жыл бұрын
Traci Ch I believe that with the exception of the hand wound speedmaster, all of Omega's mech. watches have coaxial escapements, but I think it will be unlikely that Daniel's escapement will ever replace the conventional Swiss lever escapement. It is possible that we will see other companies incorporating variants of Daniel's escapement.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but ETA makes the 8500 movement for Omega
@36916810 жыл бұрын
Omega caliber is very loosely referred to as being "in house", but ETA (which is owned by the Swatch group)and a whole bunch of other companies (some of which are probably owned by Swatch as well) collaborated to build the 8500.

Picking mine up next week. Was really surprised how much I liked it. Was dead set on getting the Speedy MOTM, but tried this on and wow. It's utter different of course, but I just couldn't not get it. It's not a small watch being a 600 and 45.5mm and more expensive than the hesalite MOTM. But the PO is truly an everyday workhorse watch, and so I was sold. However, the MOTM is still an amazing watch and loved how the hesalite melted away and it looked like the face and dials were so close to "glass". It's definitely a more dressier watch so I have no doubt it will also be a purchase i the future. Great video BTW

@3691688 жыл бұрын
so far so good, still keeps the same accuracy as it did before. it's definitely a watch you can hand over to your children. in terms of monetary value, like most watches it probably wouldn't keep good value. the only watch(s) that I can think of that would keep good value would be the sports Rolexes, and those superexpensive complications from the likes of Patek.

I still love my "Goldeneye" quartz. Not overly thrilled by the newer models.
@3691689 жыл бұрын
just curious, what aspects of the newer models turn you off? for me, the biggest initial problem (with the pre 8500 PO's) were the hands, followed by the fact that the coaxial was retrofitted into an existing eta mov't. thanks for turning in. with the newer models it would be perfect (though not a deal breaker) if the casebacks were all solid
@Sunburn20079 жыл бұрын
NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS You mean the hands not quite reaching the numbers? My 2541.80 has the bigger minute hand that touches the numbers...so it's a bit newer styling. But as to why I favor the older models versus the new...not sure. The older style is just more appealing to me aesthetically. As for movements, as you point out in your video, a lot of the newer automatics from Omega are not tried and true. You can't go wrong with an Omega quartz which has a proven track record. Not dissing automatics by any means, I have a Rolex, Hamilton, and a Tissot with autos in them and they keep great time.
@3691689 жыл бұрын
more specifically the shape of the hands, and arrowhead, in the 8500 planet oceans the hands look nicer (sleeker?)...as for the reliability of new movements, I definitely prefer movements that have been around for a while. I did alot of research into the 8500, and it seemed to be good movement.. so while it hasn't been around that long, it had all the hallmarks of a good/great movement. thus far watch is still keeping excellent time, and haven't had any issues.

A rugged, but classy looking watch. The 42mm version can even work on some ladies' wrist!
@3691689 жыл бұрын
Watch Box Yes, it can. In my opinion there's alot more leeway for sizes if the watches can be thought of as tool watches. a female diver (or a male with a slim wrist) should have a watch as legible as possible, and a bigger watch will most certainly fit the bill so long as the watch can be made to fit comfortably on the wrist. I'm alot more conservative about watch sizes when it comes to "dress" watches, in this case the watch should fit proportionally to the size of the wrist.

Why would it be "nice if it would be a solid case back" rather than a transparent one...?
@3691688 жыл бұрын
+TheAeromuse It's just my personal opinion of course but I feel that tool watches or watches with a tool like vibe to it should have a solid caseback, protects the movement better and looks more "serous". I don't mind having a display back on a dress watch esp one with a nicely embellished movement, but for a tool/tool like watch I would prefer a solid back.....still not a deal breaker depending on the watch in question otherwise I wouldn't have bought the PO.

After saving for ages my wife purchased me the Omega Planet Ocean for me beating cancer.If we had of know how much trouble this $12.500 watch was going to be we would never have purchased it.The watch has been a DUD from the start and just been returned for the THIRD time with moisture in it.The first two times Omega just said it was fine and passed all test but it still got moisture into it.I have told the supplier that it is unaseptable and I insist on a full refund. ( good luck with that )This watch has never been in the ocean or shower and should never get moisture in it from washing ones hands.In summary this watch has give us more grief than the cancer did.Has anyone out there had any major problems with their Omega watches because I love to hear about it

i got a 16.5inch wrist. how do you think the 45.5mm PO 8500 would fit? ridiculous? subtle?
@36916810 жыл бұрын
IMHO there's more leeway when you're wearing a "tool"/sports watch, so it should look ok. dress watches should fit more proportionately. in addition very often the shape of the wrist (whether its flat or roundish)-not just the circumference- will also determine whether the watch is a good fit or not

Isn't it more expensive to have a clear back movement? Thx
@3691687 жыл бұрын
I believe it does. The cynical part of me is always thinking that manufacturers are constantly finding ways to cut costs, and my erroneous reasoning frequently leads be to think that sapphire (as in a display back) is always less expensive than steel. I don't know if this is true or not, but it's probably more difficult and hence more costly to produce a clear case back. thanks for watching.

Helium escape valve is necessary if you are a diver, helium will bypass the watertight seals and in a decompression chamber you have to release it. its the relatively high temp of the water that could be an issue. too much exposure to such water may soften and weaken the gaskets

Nonsense. Complete nonsense.

NO BULLS**T WRISTWATCH REVIEWS, Yes, hot water and “solvents” are hell on gaskets. Not to mention a close quarters, hard surface area. Watch would be safer 2000ft down in salt water.

How the hell is hot water going to penetrate screw down crowns and case backs? I've taken my 100m non-diver Seiko that costs $140 into multiple hot tubs and showers with zero issues. I don't know why this makes me mad. Quit being pussies with your dive watches....watches that were designed to be in water, lol!

bluemystic7501, Probably true, but why subject a watch to such a harsh environment when it can just be removed and put back on. I imagine one would have to remove the watch after showering to dry off under the bracelet anyway. My planet ocean will not be showering with me anytime soon, regardless of how sexy it is.

Ich hatte einmal so eine Uhr. Die ging in einer Woche 2. Minuten vor. Für einen Chronometer vielleicht etwas zu viel oder.
