Great video! The Omega is my preference. I’ve had my Seamaster since 2004 and it’s been an excellent timepiece. Works flawlessly. The new master chronometer in this video with the display window is just fabulous. The version with the white dial is also very nice. The “No time to die” version (brown dial) is nice as well, but out of my price range.

Great video! Both awesome looking watches but I've always had a bias for the Omega Seamster. I think it just looks better in my opinion. Also love the big clasp on the Omega bracelet that looks super solid. Great video! Also in the video you mentioned that you messed up the end links, but I think the term end links only refers to the links that are attached via the springbars. The rest of the links are just referred to as links.

Hey, great video. I have the past Seamaster ceramic version and 3 tag Aquaracers. Most people who talk crap about tag have never even seen a Tag in person. The Aquaracer is a solid, good looking watch. I recently acquired my third one with the steel bezel, and it’s a beauty. My Seamaster is my daily watch, and my Aquaracers are my weekend watches. But yea, with the Aquaracers 41mm is the way to go, 43 is wat too big and heavy.

I have older 41mm versions of both models. I'd give the SMP a slight edge though there isn't much in it. Both bracelets are superb, maybe the Tag's bezel is a wee bit better. The spring bars on the Tag are a big harder to remove. Both are blue and look amazing in the sun and both lumes are good too.

Get the 41mm TAG if you can, the proportions are much better than the 43. It’s only 12mm thick and wears very slim, lug to lug is 47, lug width 20. It’s virtually the same dimensions as a Submariner. The 43 is too large in my opinion for all but the biggest wrists. I have the 41 with the stainless steel bezel and it’s a brilliant sports watch. Aesthetically I prefer it to the Omega - it doesn’t have the tech/spec of course, but the bracelet looks lots better and it doesn’t have a stupid ugly HEV or skeleton hands.

Very good comparison. A few points though. AR coating isn’t really a pro for the Omega. Their AR coating does scratch which is a royal pain especially since it happens within a few months of normal use. Also the Omega bracelet is problematic. It’s not tapered and can be uncomfortable and pinch on the sides. Last, the skeletonize minutes did hour hands just don’t have enough loom to be useful. I’m an Omega fan but this watch, at least for me, has to many issues for the price. As for the Tag, I’m not a fan at all so I’ll leave it there.
@watchyourstyle
@watchyourstyle 2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with all of your points. The omega definitely has a ways to go in terms of refinement. It was really attention-grabbing when it first came out, but once the hype died down the issues became apparent. Hope they can make a more refined product in the next iteration!

I own a 1999 Seamaster 300 pro with an ETA 1124 movement and a 2014 Tag Aquaracer Calibre 5 which was made with a Sellita 200. Both companies modify their movements. Both were bought new. The Tag is a better looking watch with a comparable build quality. The Omega’s movement is 1000 times better. The Tag has been in the shop 2 times for not running correctly(or at all) and once for 6 months. The Seamaster has a better band also. My advice is to save up for the Omega or if you have big bucks get Fifty- Fathom.

I think functionally and design wise the Tag really holds up well against the Omega. For someone who is looking for bang for there buck. The Tag really shines and stands out especially at the price point. But I think if you are a watch collector who eventually may trade or sell to upgrade in a few years most will go with the Omega. It is more of an investment upfront however Omega's tend to hold there value much better long term. I think that's really the only downside to Tag as a whole. They seem to not hold there value as a luxury watch compared to other brands. I'm seeing some Omegas that are up 40% in value where you will never really see that in a TAG watch unless it's the Monaco.

I am reposting this because I cannot stand the ridiculous comments from the uninformed. I own the 2017 Omega Seamaster because I prefer it over the 2018 version. I don't think the 2018 version Seamaster will hold up over time with that dial. Just my personal preference. Is the Omega a better watch, certainly. Is it worth twice as much, no. No its not. Nice video but I see you are just starting out on this crazy hobby of ours and are misinformed as well. No offense. If your Aqua racer is getting 5 plus seconds a day, try different resting positions. Mine gets -1 sec a day crown up. + 5 sec a day dial up. Makes a big difference. No, a CW Trident is not as good, nor is a Oris with a non modified cheap selitta movement. I see your honeymoon period for your new Seamaster is at full tilt, but don't let it go to your head. People who say such stupid things are un informed, don't be one of those. There is a reason the caliber 5 in the Aqua-Racer gets chronometer accuracy. It's not by accident. It has a chronometer grade movement, ceramic bezel, ceramic dial with good build quality. Try finding a Aqua-Racer that doesn't run COSC specs. Time and time again, go search watchuseek, any watch forum for that matter. What Tag-Heuer does is not all that different than Brietling does. Breitling gets ETA kits, not whole movements. Same as Tag-Heuer. Switzerland law prohibits ETA from providing movements to companies of a certain size. This is why micro brands can still get them and Brietling and Tag Heuer cannot. This is the work around they use as technically they are not getting movements, it is classified as ‘parts’. These ‘kits’ are not assembled, and are of chronometer grade to begin with. A far cry from the already assembled lower grade 2824-A2 a micro brand uses. This is why Tag-Heuer’s latest release of the caliber 5 was a chronometer. You have to use chronometer grade parts to achieve such accuracy without reworking the movement entirely. Tag-Heuer has the know how and resources to make a 2824-A2 or SW200 into whatever they want. They are a in house manufacturer after all. The Heuer 02 is one of the best there is, regardless of manufacture. Tag has also won the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève many times. The highest achievement for any watch company. www.gphg.ch/horlogerie/en A simple search on google will quickly tell you how most users of this movement are consistently achieving chrometer performance without the certification. forums.watchuseek.com/f25/how-accurate-your-calibre-5-tag-3229890.html People forget Tag-Heuer is part of the LVMH group , with tremendous resources at their disposal. They also won the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie multiple times for their innovation with watch movements! Such as a tour billion and the mikogirder. And recently with the updated caliber 5 a-magnetic isograph, which is a totally in house mainspring. The balance bridge and balance wheel and rotor and mainspring are already in house parts made by Tag already in that movement. They modified it further with the isograph technology. People saying they just use a off the shelf cheap movements are like parrots repeating nonsense with no real basis in reality. One trip to their factory, and your perception of the brand would change completely. Far from generic my friend. wornandwound.com/baselworld-2019-tag-heuer-autavia-isograph/ By Swiss law in order to call a movement a different name if your company is a certain size the movement must have a certain amount of " customization" to it to use a different moniker. Such as Breitling caliber 17, Tag Heuer caliber 5, IWC 30110, Tudor also customizes their own 2824-2 but does not use a different name, and so on. Most assume it's a standard low grade ETA movement. Which couldn't be further from the truth. A chrono meter grade 2824-2 assembled from ETA is fantastic as it is, Tag-Heuer even customizes it further from that. So do all the companies I mentioned. Can a standard 2824-A2 or SW200 do this? kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJfdYpumnKyVmtU Only knock against Tag is there are different grades of the calibre 5. Lower graded calibre 5s in the link series or formula one are not the same. These are Selitta SW200s and are not chrono meter grade. The Aqua-Racer and Carrera day and day date use the chrono meter grade movements. This is where the disparity and confusion comes from. Tag should call the lower end movements something else. calibercorner.com/tag-heuer-caliber-5/ Hope this clears up some misconceptions on Tag you may have, or give a little more perspective on the watch you own. It's better than you think. I bought my Aqua-Racer as a beater for my Planet Ocean 8900. Turns out the Aqua-Racer was so good, I wear it just as much. Did the same and bought a Carrera day date as a beater for my Explorer 214270, same thing happened, I wear it just as much as my Explorer. Tag build quality is not quite there with Omega and Rolex, but it's not far behind. I own all three and I look fondly at my Tags as much as my other watches.

Very good review, there are a few things to add for both cases, I’m a watch nerd forgive the following geekiness that ensues: Omega: .8800 movement is good for +/- 5 seconds a day -All Omega movements are rated to 15,000 Gauss -Dial markers, hands, and movement are plated in rhodium -Co-axial escapement gives you a very high degree of accuracy at all angles -The micro adjustment is a god-send in the summer Tag Huer: -Highly recognized brand -known for a robust and reliable movement -Great value if found for under $2000 as a starter Swiss watch -Servicing is very cheap meaning long life expectancy for the Tag What keeps me from enjoying the Tag is that in the new aqua racers, they have PLASTIC buffers (shock absorbers) in the movement. I don’t know who that was a good idea, but it seriously diminishes the value of the watch, I highly recommend purchasing one however if you can find it below $2,000, at that point, it’s fairly priced. The masculine and sporty look of the aqua racer is very well executed. I own both of these as well, but in blue and they make for quite the suit combo!
@metalobliteration
@metalobliteration 4 жыл бұрын
Charles Li I own both! I’m a sucker for Navy dials so I have each in their Navy Blue variants. The Omega does it far better in my opinion and makes a statement with the crisp white markers. Being able to see the Rhodium plated movement is a huge plus as well, especially being the watch geek that I am.

I own a tag f1 calibre 5. The reason i chose it was the design. But what sealed the deal was the fact that with the ETA or Sellita Movements i can get it serviced at Any watch dealer at an extremely cheap price compared to inhouse movements. and the parts will be available for at least 100 years into the future. It is holding time at + 2 sec a day, and that was measured at a 30 day span on my wrist. Not a single handwind in those 30 days since i wear it every day. The plastic shock absorb looks nasty when the back is opened i must agree, but it just shows that TAG focuses at making quality everyday watches which can take a beat. I never fear for the watch and I even ride mountainbike in the forrest with it, so it gets it's fair shakes and rattles. even though it's pricey compared to what most people gives for an everyday watch it is well worth it if you want to feel that craftmanship a g-shock doesn't give you and the design and detail in finish a cheaper or equally priced dress watch often misses. Even at retail it is worth it. It is very durable watch. Made for everyday wear. Just my opinion
@metalobliteration
@metalobliteration 4 жыл бұрын
Nicolai Lund Nielsen I agree, the Tag makes for an awesome adventure watch, you can trust that the movement will stay robust and well functioning on the go, and the ability to service it for a relatively cheap price is definitely something to be considered, but if you want over engineered movements with specs that are so far beyond what you’ll ever need or encounter in life, I highly recommend the omega. Honestly the thing that makes me fall so deeply for it is the ceramic dial and the sapphire case back. Being able to admire the movement and the way the high polish refracts light at different angles sets it apart from the rest. Though my only gripe, and this is more of a utilitarian thing, is that the Tag doesn’t have a micro-adjustable steel bracelet. You can get a rubber strap for the same functionality, I know, but to me that makes it hard to justify getting a steel bracelet from Tag to begin with. Even though admittedly their links are as good if not better feeling than a Rolex Oyster bracelet.

I don't really mind the plastic spacer on the Tag. People have made a big issue of it, but for me personally, hey, as long as the movement is good and as long as the plastic offers good shock protection--fine by me. The only thing, I wish the power reserve on the Tag was just a bit more. I have an Oris 65 and this is the same problem, excellent watch but runs out of juice quickly.

Curious if you mean that the Tag is not a young man's watch? Most young men can't afford a $5,000 watch ;) I think modern day tool watches sized at 41mm plus are not very commonly seen on men in their 50's and 60's. 36mm watches were basically the standard for that generation. The Omega is the bond watch, and dude is in his 50's. He wears the shit out of the watch...

So I own a sea master with blue dial and bezel and I get more compliments on my watch then my friend does on his Rolex sub. I find the blue is nice bc everyone owns a watch in black so the blue stands out more. Also the movement in the omega is much better then the Rolex as well. Another thing that’s great about omega is they hold there value better then tag. Not saying tags are not good watches but I would never buy a tag brand new bc the value plummets and it’s probably the worst on the market. Tags dive watch is definitely not their best watch and I would never buy a tag aqua racer just for those reasons. Tag among many other companies need to update their movements. My omega was definitely worth the $4k 😉

On looks alone the tag is nicer. It's also slimmer , cheaper to buy. Buy it preowned, and it's way cheaper than the omega. Yes it has a plastic movement holder inside, but u can't see it. Going to be cheaper to service too, so to me , the tags the better buy. Tags don't get a lot of love, but they are great watches for the price now. Have both watches, the Omega is absolutely worth MORE than double the price. The thing that drives me crazy with the Tag, is the bracelet. It's basically a throw away. I feel like a $2650 msrp watch should come with a really nice bracelet, screw in links, tool free micro adjust are 100% a must on a watch of this caliber. Instead they include this trashy bracelet you'll find on a certina... You're 100% correct that the Tag is difficult to size correctly, not just because it's difficult to actually get apart, but because there are no micro links either... You rely on the large links and tooled micro adjust on the clasp. Plus, not having that tool free micro adjust makes the watch fit inconsistently through different temps. When it's warm, the watch gets snug, and when it's cold the watch gets too loose. Don't get me wrong, the tag is a really nice watch, especially when you can get it on the gray market for around $1800. But it's no Omega SM 300m... Though i enjoyed watching this video because I own both, they really have no business being reviewed side by side as though they are in the same weight class. Great video's man!

Omega 8800 tolerances are the same as the Rolex (within 4 seconds) but the Rolex is -2/+2 whereas the Omega is 0/+4, so the Omegas never run slow..
