The humble dive watch is perhaps the most popular category of watch available today, tracing its origins back to the wondrous and dangerous adventures of Jacques Cousteau and others like him. Equipped to explore the last unknown frontier on Earth, it’s no wonder that the dive watch is as inspirational and appealing as it is. That, and you can wear it in the swimming pool. The question is, if you can’t quite stretch to the quintessential dive watch, Rolex’s Submariner, which dive watch should you get?

Been on Rolex‘s Submariner waiting list for more than 4 years now. Eventually gave up on their „short of supply“ myth and got myself a Tag Heuer Aquaracer with a ceramic bezel. Couldn‘t be more happier!

Aesthetically, the Tag H is my favourite in this video, it's also a different design to the often yawn-inducing, generic dive watch design. However, they seem to be scorned by many watch enthusiasts who say they are overrated and not great quality. Would be interested to hear from anyone with first-hand experience of this brand.

Another great triple-feature! As usual, you guys are great at providing a wealth of knowledge in a thoroughly qualitative way, taking what could be a very dry subject (history) and infusing it with lyrical flavour and prose. Delightful, informative, excellent. Personally, I’m not huge on divers, although I do have a soft spot for Christopher Ward’s Trident line. Speaking of, I know that they’re not 100% British-made, but they’re a lot closer than most brands, and given your location and provenance, it would be great to see you guys take a look at one of their pieces (if one happens to cross your desk). Thank you again for taking the time and effort to bring us such great content - I’ve started describing your channel as “the Top Gear of watch reviews to my wife, which is a huge compliment coming from me, not that you need me to vouchsafe or validate your efforts. Say what you want but TAG offers great brand recognition with great design also, and honestly a quite nice quality level, at moderate prices. They challenge Breitling which also runs with ETA but strangely enough gets 10% of the flak Tag gets. And besides if that Sellita isn't good enough buy one via ebay, 300$ for a top-grade ETA including the cost of having it fitted. Sounds good to me.

WisdomRails Mine comes Friday. That exact combo in 41mm as 44 is ghastly. Like it cos it does not pretend to mimic a sub or seamaster 300 with the bezel and is classy and understated. Only other tag id consider is a Monaco. Next year hopefully get speedy think they come with 3 strap options. So i have a nice chronograph then. I'm very fond of dive watches, so I own half a dozen of them, including the Rolex Submariner that is mentioned several times throughout the video and also one of the 3 featured watches. The answer may surprise you. I own the Tag Heuer Aquaracer. All snobby criticism aside, the Aquaracer is a fine piece. It's a handsome, durable watch and it keeps perfect time. The more I wear it, the more I appreciate it and for the money, it's hard to beat. Most of all, I like the unique design. It doesn't copy or try to imitate a Rolex at all. The styling is very distinctive and not one you will confuse for anything else. In my opinion, the Aquaracer design has a distinctive look that sets it apart, much like an AP Royal Oak or Rolex Submariner. Another great plus is the watch is remarkably thin compared to other dive watches and it has some of the best lumed markers/hands in the business. There are lots of dive watches out there to choose from, but in terms of the best quality for the money, from a large, reputable Swiss watch company, the Aquaracer is a solid bet that's hard to beat. Fun fact...I used to dislike the brand, but now I have changed my opinion and own one.

Ian Ferguson I agree completely Ian. The old adage, never judge a book by its cover still holds true. Ironically, as former TAG Heuer critic, I actually find myself wearing my Aquaracer more than I do my Submariner. I also believe as the large Swiss brands have all been increasing in cost, there are many people who are getting priced out of the market. Rolex is a supreme example of that. That said, I think the brands to keep an eye on are Oris, Certina, Squale and of course, Tag Heuer. Tag is already on the move with some of their higher end pieces. From a price point of view Tag Heuer still represents a value for the money for a quality Swiss Watch. I think as more people become priced out of the Rolex market, they will buy from brands like TAG Heuer and others.

Watchfinder & Co, your image quality is pristine, love it. Voicing and story telling isn't too shabby either. An improvement point to this particular installment is a look at the bracelets beyond the TAG Heuer Aquaracer. It's important on any true dive watch. I find that the Tudor Pelagos comes with best dive watch bracelet clasp of them all, although they're hands down beaten on looks by the beautiful Breitling at the same price point. Then again the Breitling Superocean Heritage II isn't really a dive watch, with only a 20 atm water resistance, and a leather strap. Value for money, Mido Ocean Star Diver 600 COSC Chronometer Si, 600 meter water resistance with silicon hairspring, and, just like the Tudor, it has the helium escape valve, and nice flexible bracelet for wearing outside the diver suit. Unbelievable value at around 1400 Euros.

Wich watch do you recommend? Tag heuer aquaracer with ceramic, new Longines Hydroconquest with ceramic bezel, also interesting Hydroconquest chronograph new with ceramic, or new oris aquis.

Another outstanding video, I just love your macros. I was SO surprised to see the Tag in there. I was going to buy that very watch a few years ago but gave up after a few of the 'big you-tubers' called it garbage. I still love it but don't want to be ripped off if the innards are cheap. Worth the price?

Its worth it if you can find a pre-owned piece. I bought a preowned Aquaracer and was amazed by it's wearability and design, definitely my favourite watch now. Buy what you like, follow your gut.

I have always loved the POs. Then I tried one on at an AD and they told me they wanted $5000 for it. I was immediately turned off. However, that was many years ago, and my tastes and wallet size have changed. I have owned a few Subs, a couple POs, and a few SMPs, along with a bunch of other divers. I always come back to the PO as one of the "coolest" looking watches ever made. I had a couple of Aquaracers and they never quite did it for me. Perhaps it was just a mental thing; knowing the brand. On the flip side, I am very underwhelmed by Submariners these days (both aluminum and ceramic bezel versions) and frankly, have been eyeing a 2500 movement PO to add back to the collection. Great video, thanks.

I've own my longines hydroconquest for about 4 years which is a lovely and affordable diver. And just got the BB58 after a lon 10 months wait. If I have to pick a third one will probably be the omega planet ocean.

I bought a Breitling Super Ocean II, the 42mm version. I liked the brushed finish in the 44mm one, but it wore too big on my 6.5" wrist. I was hesitant at first because the 42mm came with a polished bracelet, and we all know how blingy many Breitling can be. I liked it the moment I opened the case. I still catch myself gazing at it on my wrist when I'm not paying attention elsewhere. It's a luxury dive watch that's been described as being built like a tank.

I got a blue seamaster 300m ceramic 4 months ago and when I wear it I can't take my eyes off it. They always get over looked (Like in this video), on forums and KZbin but I think they're a future classic

I have an Aquaracer which I think are underrated, an 2531.80 which is an icon in it's own right and a BB58 which is also a stunner. I fancy a Superocean Heritage in green which will hopefully be my last piece. I love them all and I think I'd sooner have 4 different alternatives than 1 Sub🤔

Few brief thoughts, 1 i had an aquaracer C5 ceramic bezel recently. The fit and finish was top notch. It punches above its pricepoint in that respect, and the case and bracelet are made in Switzerland, not imported. Where it fell short was the Sellita movement; it had to go back for a replacement a few months after purchasing new and than the replacement movement had to go back for repair a few months after that. Research revealed the issues were somewhat common for sw200s. Second, i wish brands would sacrifice WR for a few mm off the height. The PO, a diver that rivals the Sub in style and execution wears like a tuna can, for the sake of WR that no human being will ever ever need. Same with the Pelagos. No, its not the 8500 either, in the AT its not nearly as portly. Id own a PO right now if it was 2mm thinner even at half or less the WR.

The Aquadive 500 (competitively priced compared to these 3) slays all of these watches in terms of its vintage styling and comes with a Vaucher (Parmigiani) movement as well.

Its nothing short of miraculous that they offer that watch with that movement for that price tag. I just dont think its ISO 6425 compliant d/t the second hand, but that shouldn't be a deal breaker

I have an Omega Seamaster Quartz that I purchased in 2001. It has been on countless dives with me, and on wrist every day until recently. It has consistently been accurate to +3 1/2 seconds a month. Yes, you read that right...... a month! That's why I purchased the Quartz movement.

I love (and bought) a planet ocean 8800, the 39.5mm diameter and reduced thickness make it very elegant for my wrists. I bought it black with the black leather/rubber strap, it looks both dressy and functional.

I did have and Aquaracer for 6 years..and I have to say it held up pretty well. It retained bout 75% of its value, now that I sold it I'm looking forward of the Omega seamaster master. The planet ocean is masculine which I like very much but I always feel that it would look awkward wearing it with a suit..my opinion of course.
