Good to have you back. I'm sure I'm not the only fan that looks forward to your videos. I had a Tokyo 2020 Panda Speedmaster and I ended up selling it because of the winding - even though I loved the look of it. On the Submariner, I can relate. I had the 41mm Date version. Just found it boring and sold it. I found myself wearing my Rolex Batgirl (hate that moniker) and my Planet Ocean a lot more. Keep the videos coming Andy!!

Great video! I have a First Omega in Space that I bought used (box & papers) last year shortly after my son was born. It never leaves my wrist. My son is just over a year old now and loves looking at it and grabbing it, usually with hands covered in saliva or food lol 🤣 I love the way he grabs at the watch because I know it’s going to be his one day. I put it on the Uncle Seiko bracelet which I like because it gives the FOIS a bit of an extra vintage feel and steel is loads easier to maintain around my son compared to the leather strap the watch came on! I have a few other watches in my collection but this is HIS/OUR watch. It’ll be “dad’s watch” until it becomes his.

Long-time lurker, first-time commenting. You've expressed a lot of my thoughts in this video. There are watches that define our journey and these can't be very many. Like you, I bought my Speedy in '98. It's a T Swiss T model, it must have been sitting behind the window for a while. I wore it for 22 years straight, and I sm still wearing it. I bought a couple of watches since (Seamaster 300MC, Explorer I) but that's it. You build a relation with a watch, and the watch almost becomes an accessory of your personality. That takes time, a lot of time, and a lot of wearing on your wrist. Thanks for the nice content, All the best.

Great content Andy love your watch journey Storie. Now I will not be throwing mud at my screen for you selling your speedy. That’s because I just bought the new I pad pro, so don’t want any mud on the screen. Having said that if it was the 861 movement speedy you sold the new iPad would have gone out the window. Thanks.

I really enjoyed your thoughts on your father. I too have been buying watches tied to my father and grandfather. My father worked for Nasa, so I got the 3861 Moonwatch a few years ago. My grandfather worked for American Brass, so I picked up a Longine Legend Diver Bronze. It's a great way to buy watches. Thinking about the memories, or characteristics about the people you love and buying something durable that you will always have to remember them by.

Hi Andy. I really enjoy your channel. Your voice is very soothing! Something about its cadence or tone. 😊 My dad has worn a Rolex 2-tone “bluesey” Sub every day for many years. He doesn’t baby it, either. He beats the crap out of it. It’s well loved! ❤

Great video Andy. A couple of years ago I made a decision to buy two nice watches to leave my boys when I'm gone. Ive got a speedmaster and will probably buy a seamaster diver 300 in the near future. A watch is a lovely gift to pass on lk a loved one.

Hi Andy, I'm the chap you spoke to at the Redbar event - an Arboricultural Consultant, so not far off, just using different muscles nowadays😉 Still wearing my Sub to work now and again, though favouring my Explorer 2 (226570 black dial) as its less in-your-face... and my new 3861, purchased unworn a month ago! This was entirely your fault I might add, so thank you for pulling my trigger finger after so many years of inevitability! Loving your content and hoping to see you again soon, though I'll miss the next event due to work unfortunately. Have fun if you make it🙏🙂 Mark

Andy, you clearly have the same nostalgic draw to the notion of “one watch,” and being a One Watch guy as I do. It’s a conundrum, isn’t it, when one is drawn to watch collecting but also would love to have one watch that goes through it all with us everyday and then is passed down to our kids? I have inadvertently associated a couple of my watches to my kids for differing reasons over the years, and I try to wear those associated watches when doing events or spending time with each child, so hopefully I can have the best of both worlds: collecting, but also having a “Dad’s Watch” for each kid. Cheers.

Hi Andy. I’m a regular viewer, who tends to watch and enjoy, without leaving comments. However I always appreciate your very relaxed, easygoing style, your videos always have a freshness because you usually have a story of sorts to tell, rather than just make formulaic videos that are just intended to hit YT algorithms, which can become very boring and stale. I really felt that this video was based on recent reflection you’ve been going through regarding your family, past and present, and perhaps your legacy too, an inevitable consequence of getting older perhaps? Watch collecting has actually become quite stressful for me, as I own too many watches, many of which are rarely worn. I definitely could never be remembered for wearing one watch in particular, which is actually kind of sad. So your video has galvanised my determination to put that right, and to significantly reduce my collection, by selling some, and gifting a few to my adult children to enjoy wearing now, or even sell if they wish, to help them financially now, rather than when I’m not around. This thoughtful video has made me realise that I’d like to have a ‘dad’s watch’ too, which until your excellent video, wasn’t something I’d ever considered. Thanks for telling us about your story, Andy, it’s really been a wake up call for me, and I’m grateful. 🙏🏻

I suspect age is playing a part. Balancing legacy and the need to enjoy ownership of different things along the way can be a difficult journey if you’re not willing to give them up to enjoy the next.

You're obviously an articulate and a smart guy. I identify with your watch journey. What hit me, are your last thoughts of leaving a legacy watch. The watch for me to pass on to my son is the same as your Omega Planet Ocean. It's my grail, a watch of which matches my persona. My son will see that.. End of the day, it's how a watch makes you feel. Not how you 'think' how a watch, 'should' make you feel. Thankyou Andy. ❤

2 Speedies here : my grail 321 from the 60s, and then a 145.022-69 from 1970. That's a tritium 861. There's some other pieces in there, so yes you need to structure your collection and the pieces need to have a reason being there. And some become absolute specials, that will never leave, then some that will likely stay, and then a few that might go.

“Defining your dad’s watch” is a tough one! Especially when you’ve got 2 kids.. Each watch I get, I keep thinking whether I should get a similar one so that they don’t fight when I’m gone.. 😅 Next on MY list is definitely the Moonwatch hesalite! Would you get a Seamaster 300M? @TheEnglishWatch
@TheEnglishWatch Ай бұрын
I've sold through both Chrono24 and eBay with no issue. eBay fees are much higher which is why I prefer Chrono24. Good photos and a clear description are a must to attract attention to the add. Plenty of good examples on there. Once you have agreed a price with the buyer, they sent Chrono24 the money where it's retained in escrow until the watch is shipped and received. Once the buyer confirms receipt, Chrono24 send you the money. It's straight forward, but clearly you must follow their exact instructions to prevent being scammed. I would also insure the watch correctly for shipping. Royal Mail are reliable for shipping, but I use a 3rd party insurer if the value exceeds the RM maximum which is about £2k I think. eBay is a little safer as they have the authentication process and hold both the money and watch and ensure both reach buyer and seller.

@@TheEnglishWatchthank you very much for the details Andy. Feels more convenient than I thought. I am thinking to let go one between the Rootbeer which I love but rarely feel too comfortable in wearing it around and the Batman (scratched slightly while bathing my child, lovely memory) which seems even more valuable and too attention grabbing. Believe it or not a Cartier Santos is lately more appealing to me than those GMTs.

I think they're really only going to remember and value the watch they saw you wearing, and then you have the problem of which child gets it. If you're a collector with many watches, they will mean nothing to your kids except what they're worth.

I found one in pristine condition, hardly worn and had the original box and papers and receipt, for AU$12,500 and offered and was accepted for 10,250. Bargain at twice the price! These can be found. Sold the 1861 three times. I've had enough of the Speedy. Keep going back to it, but it's just not my watch. It's just a tad too large, thick, and expensive. @johnnyxmusic

I think the water resistance what is it 50 m… It’s just a psychological thing I mean I think you would feel better if it’s 100 m, but surely you’re not going to be diving off a pier in your business clothes with your Speedmaster watch and even if you did, you would probably be fine. But I get it… People think of it as a kind of shortcoming and in the world of collecting unnecessary things… It’s all these tiny little details that matter even if they don’t really matter.
