Thanks for the comparison. Just a suggestion: you can put the two watches on a table, side by side, and go over the differences that way. You can also point them out using a blunt pointing tool. With the watches shaking around in the hands, it can be a little hard to focus on each individual differences. Good luck, keep it up!

Thanks for the comparison. You took a tough choice and made it easy. I prefer the FOIS on almost every point except for maybe the lug size. But the sapphire, the darker dial, the pointed hands, everything else tilts FIOS for me.

I have the Moonwatch which I have had to put on a strap because I can't go out to have links removed due to the virus. I was OK doing the strap myself but removing links is a job I don't feel confident about. I bought a vintage-style brown strap and to be honest, I am happy with the look. If the day ever comes when I can go out and feel safe, I will have the bracelet shortened and put back on. This is my second Speedmaster, the other one is the triple date automatic and I love both watches.

I had to think long and hard before opting to buy one or the other, the problem being compounded as the 1861 has just been replaced by the much improved 3861, which incidentally supports a much better looking bracelet/ buckle than the former model. Side by side, ignoring historical context, the FOIS is a much more honed product and edges it when dressed (suited and booted), it supports the all important applied logo having dimensions measuring just under 40mm and perfectly sized with lugs framing it out doing the professional . The absence of a bracelet would normally be an issue, but its not a concern in this case, its not the best bracelet compared to other watches i have - actually it's something that's served as a deterrant - just doesn't do anything for me! Besides, the first thing anyone does that's bought either of these is to buy a bunch of straps, which is the point I'm making. Both are absolute strap monsters, but only one is discontinued ie not receiving the new movement, and that's the FOIS!... ITS GONE without a whimper! This little fact has gone completely un-noticed with the hype of the incoming new movement and has been completely muted, by all the noise generated by the very expensive 321 Ed White! I have therefor recently pulled the trigger on a new FOIS, and yes, invested in 4 custom made straps (my wrist size is large and 19mm lugs aren't supported in abundance with choice). My thinking was, having seen the new moon watch, and it being an aesthetically improved variant from it's replacement, if in future I want to add to my collection, the option would be there to acquire a new one.... something that wont happen once FOIS depletes in stock. All this aside, they both have histories, many will relate one way or another, but for me none of this was an issue, the choice was simple, but I'm probably on the side of the minority.

Just picked up a bracelet for my fois, the 1564 /975 omega bracelet fits the fois perfectly, also uncle seiko does a beads of rice that looks great too, and is way cheaper. I searched for ages for an omega bracelet, so thought I would share with you guys incase anyone else is looking for one!!

Well, now the FOIS has been discontinued. The production run is said to have been 15000. Also the new standard Speedmaster costs £6000.

I beg to differ, they don't look nor at all feel the same on the wrist. I've had both and choose the larger one due to having a larger wrist. Smaller wrist individuals seem to be okay with both.

I'm sorry but they certainly don't wear the same at all, that is a monstrously ridicolous comment, the fois wears much smaller and is much better suited to smaller wrists, there are also vintage omega bracelets plus forstner do an exceptional quality bracelet for the fois so it's not true you can't get a bracelet for it.

Hi, I just stumbled across the fois, it is great for smaller wrists and this video addresses the other finer points really well. It is also nice to have an extra option, since almost everyone wants "the" moon watch. Just one question: is there a chance the Seamaster 300M fits the fois?

Neither watch is a moonwatch. That would be the 321 Speedmaster. Get it right. Nor is the FOIS Speedmaster anything like the actual first omega in space. Again, that would be the 321 Speedmaster. A real omega 321 speedmaster is triple the price of these watches. It is a handmade and assembled watch. Besides the 321 being a grail watch, it is in another league to these watches.

Nevermind omega themselves call the speedmaster professional with white hands and black dial +bezel the moonwatch... I agree the cal 321 is a fantastic movement, but handmade? Nah mate, it was a tool watch, not a Patek. The cal 1863 in the sapphire sandwich is finished to a greater degree than the 321 if you want to go down that road.

Yes there have been changes from the original that took a trip to the moon, I believe 321,861 and indeed the 1861 movements have all been into space, the new Ed White relates more to original than other models if it's important! Other watches have also been on the moon, Rolex was worn as a personal watch by Apollo 13 mission in 1970 by Jack Swigert... A GMT Master as memory serves, plus many others have made the journey since! Point is both the FOIS and the Prof are still great watches for the money, even though Omega have gone mad with recent price rises, I don't think you can go wrong, although your choices a much more limited now as the FOIS has been discontinued !
