Not really, you can get Certinas/even tissots that have an eta(automatic ones) in them and stainless steel for right around that price, but hype is expensive. Furthermore quality control on these is bad.

looks like there was a phantom date adjustment on the movement. The ETA quartz used by Swatch here probably gets used on several day/date Swatch watches. Nice watch, hope to be able to get one soon. I bet it would look pretty good on a leather strap. :)

Looks like it shares the movement and everything with the $160 Big Chrono "NASA" in bioceramic. That one has a date. The chrono seconds hand not lining up at 12 bugs me still.

@@tomasinacovell4293 Sure it is. We know the case is modeled to be an exact match to the Speedmaster Pro. That has a lug to lug width of 20mm. This MoonSwatch comes, just like the original, with spring bars. Easy swap and there are a couple of videos out there of people putin NATO straps on them.

@@tomasinacovell4293 I saw one technical review, it stated the lug width as "20mm" which is standard and it "appeared" to have spring bars. I am pretty sure that is true since the Bioceramic case was made from a scan of the Speedy.

@@Lanciarules this watch is far less fragile than an actual speedy. It's only as disposable as the price is to you. Also, does it only look cheap because it's plastic? It's a high-quality plastic/ceramic mix. The material was chosen to distinguish it from the OG, not to cheapen it (SS would cost a somewhat similar amount), and if it were SS, you'd say that it's a replica of the OG.

I did buy 6 moonswatches on Aliexpress. The look the samen as an original moonswatch and are perfect timekeepers. It did cost me the same account of money as one original moonswatch

Love the watch, hate the strap. Imagine that's easy enough to change though. More interested in what people think this does to Omega as a brand. Does this get people interested as a gateway drug to a mechanical? Do current speedy pro owners feel slighted or like the brand has been "cheapened". There's such a huge leap in price between the moonswatch and their next least expensive model. Does anyone even care? As a g shock fanboy I'm all for more affordable quality pieces. I'll probably get one when they are actually available online at retail prices.

I think the sales price of $260 is about right. Just to bear the name Omega is a huge honor for a Swatch, which I estimate to be worth about $250. The remaining $10 is about right for the value of the plastic and bioceramic material.

You can automatically adjust where the second hand sits with the push of the lower chrono pusher while the crown is out therefore adjusting which marker it’s hitting, this is true with almost all chronographs, for this watch specifically, the second hand is set up on the 1’5 second marker, so this is why you see it not hitting the markers throughout the minute

That chrono hand alignment looks terrible. An absolute no from me as I use this functionality a lot. But it might not bother a lot of others. Too much branding - looks like Omega paid Swatch for ad space. But overall it’s a fun take on this watch and I understand why it will be popular. I will go take a look at all the models when the mob clears out of pure curiosity. How’s the weight & on wrist feel?

I think one simple thing would have made this move palatable for just about everyone...making exactly the same watch, but leaving the Omega name and logo off of the watch completely. It could say "MoonSwatch Speedy" for example with everything else identical and it becomes an instant cult classic Swatch. The Speedmaster configuration is so instantly recognizable that diluting the Omega brand power with their labeling on a Swatch seems not only unnecessary, but perhaps even a major marketing blunder. I own a half dozen Omegas, including a reduced, and I have enjoyed the slow but obvious regaining of status that Omega gifted to Rolex with the introduction of the Cal 1000's in the 70's. Having the Greek Omega symbol on a dial now seems somehow less relevant. If Omega wants to do something spectacular to make up for this misstep they could always reissue the Cal. 551 with modern hi-beat timing. It was a hit with the 321. I could not think of anything better than a vintage homage Seamaster in a 39mm case, with an exhibition back displaying the pinkish gold looking mechanicals of this iconic movement----from an era that Omega was generally considered preferable to a Rolex. Very little development cost, so sell it for $2200, and sit back and enjoy years long waiting lists of enthusiasts trying to get their wrists wrapped by one. Instant classic. Much better way to garner raves from the masses than conning them into a gimmicky quartz watch with allusions to being an actual Omega. These might be selling on ebay for a $100 a year from now. Swatch could react quickly and take the misleading name off the dial, and make that first run of "SwatchMasters" an oddity that actually does become a collector item. In my humble opinion

The truth is no one really gives a shit about watches, obviously there's a bit of hype over this one due to it's price point but think it's so easy to fall into the trap of thinking everyone's a watch enthusiast. Ive worn my speedmaster to work before and no one's batted an eye. The watch community seems nervous at the idea that itl saturate the market and you'll look around the restaurant and everyone will have a 'speedmaster' on but i just don't think that's the case. At £200 I'll be picking one of the more colourful ones up when they come in stock, its a fun watch with a bit of hype and story - i find it bizarre though that people are picking these up at inflated prices on ebay, I've seen some go for £1500, it's not even a limited line! The amount of amazing watches you can pick up for that price! Can only imagine these people don't understand what it is they're buying.

The interesting thing about this is how the conglomerate manages the masses, if you realize, even people with experience have fallen on the trap , they have handled the propaganda well, obviously, it is about Swatch, which is not bad, but a certain part of the community has gotten carried away, it's a shame, because I don't think this piece is worth what it costs, and it's not about owning something just because, well, it's everyone's money, it's respectable, but in this environment of Horology enthusiasts, tread carefully, I think there are better options out there with more value for your money. It is a toy watch that cannot be opened, a plastic and quartz watch, a swatch that honors OMEGA on its dial and case, nothing more, it is a SWATCH. Whoever wants a speedmaster without paying crazy should buy a good tribute or something similar. In the end, the big brands are in evidence, a watch is good when it has a solvent movement, be it quartz or automatic, when it has sapphire and good finishes in its steel construction. When it is legible and has a minimum tightness of 100M. That's a great watch, that's why value is one thing and price another. No watch of more than 1,500 euros that does not have precious material in its construction and some complication beyond time and day, is worth a higher price, even if its movement is manufactured. Watches are overrated and like everything else, value is one thing and price is another. This is not an obstacle to deny the luxury market that exists, but that is something more than watchmaking.
