Great film. I thought the wife was total witch and walked all over the husband. His only outlet was the dog. I knew that showing the scene of him burying the evidence right on their property was meant to be plot point and the minute he let the dog out ahead of him was it for him.

I genuinely believe that the dog only did betrayed him just to tell is owner what he did was wrong but had no hard feelings against him

I don't understand why he would try to hide the evidence. Someone breaks in, is seen, and they pick up something close by to hit her, then drop it and flee. You would wipe away the fingerprints, but even if the husband's prints were on it...well he lives there and could have touched it anytime. However with nothing missing I think he would be the #1 suspect whether they found the murder weapon or not.
