Thanks for posting this! I still have this PC and it's still running pretty well; the only thing I've done is replaced my HDD as well as added a 1TB SSD. I also don't have any pets or carpet in the immediate area, so that probably helps re dust. I'm going to need to upgrade my i5-7400 to a i7-7700 for an upcoming game soon, and my friend also recommended additional cooling for the problems you noted but I'm not sure what I can do about it.

Hey, I have this same pc. Please don’t buy an i7-7700. I’ve thought about it but they’re averaging $300 and with that you could get a microatx motherboard + a ryzen 5 5600X (which performs aswell as an i5-12400F) which would mean you wouldn’t have to change the case if you really didn’t want to because it’s a microatx case. It would just be a massive waste of money to spend 300 on barely an upgrade

I bought this pc a couple years ago, maybe 3 by now and it's pretty decent imo, the only complaint i have at the moment is how long it takes to boot up and load apps which I might be able to solve by installing more RAM and installing an SSD assuming that's possible for this PC. Other than that it's near perfect for me, even capable of running games in VR playing Project Cars 2 with a racing wheel on top of it. For a medium level gaming pc it's good for me, I found it on a sale at Best Buy back then when it was around $800 or so which was worth it enough for me instead of the time it'd take me to build a pc at that level from scratch

I bought HP gtx 1070 Omen i7700 , upgraded to 32 Gigs of Ram, added another WD Hard dirve and this freaking monster runs everything only Ultra and chews it up and spits it out. The only time I can get this thing to not spot over 80 to 100 Fps is when I play games like DCS / Digital Combat Simulator which requires a lot for max setting.... Even still I run flight simulator games which are RAM hogs and work your processor, I run it ultras still get 40 to 72 frames depending on what terrain I'm flying on. This machine is beast. Fast forward a year later and I had saved up 2300 dollars and was gonna buy another omen with and i9-9900 , 2080, 1tb ssd at 32 gigs...... I cancelled the order because honestly, this rig is still just getting it done. I mean I would have liked to have that but I just couldn't pull the trigger on it when this PC is still hella relevent.

@@gixn2254 always put new thermal paste on a cpu when you remove the cooler , so yes if you change out your cpu you will need some thermal paste put a pea sized blob in center and then put your cooler on top easy peasy

I'd replace the motherboard then replace the CPU and GPU. Maybe slap an i8 and an RTX 2080 or a 6900 in it and call it a day after I replace the motherboard. Add another 16gb ram stick to double it's current ram to 32gb. Everything else in it should be able to support that. Maybe I'd get a new fan with 3 fans too and rig it somewhere near the side panel vent and use the old fan mount as a new vent until I decide to port all the parts into a better case. Water cooling system wouldn't hurt either to help any future overheating with the new parts. I'm going to look into this PC a bit more and see if I can cop one for $300 - $500. Obviously get rid of Windows and get a Linux OS installed.

Thanks, yes I bought this HP about four years ago. Don’t use it much but when I do I find it to be very smooth and quick. The only issue I’ve found is that I cannot turn off the RGB’s on the front. The settings do not do anything. If you have any solutions please let me know..

That was discontinued by the manufacturer. You would need an upgraded omen to make use of those settings or return your computer to its factory setting but itll only work for a while before windows updates messes it up. Thats a glitch that they addressed and then gave up on fixing it.

Just build a new pc, this pc doesn't really allow upgrades, the graphics card is mostly causing the frame drops but it could also be the cpu but i recommend building a new pc

Aim Blamez that thumb screw is the only thing you need to unscrew to open that panel on the pc. If your trying to clean it or just dust please use an air duster.

It's a good starter pc but if you do buy it, i recommend getting a 256gb sdd then reinstall windows on the ssd, it would load windows quicker, also buy another 8gb of ram and you should be fine

LMAO @ idiots buying prebuilt gaming PCs and getting ripped off. Also...this guy reviewing this computer barely knows what he's talking about. This computer at BEST is average. The CPU is a couple generations too old, and too expensive. There's no XMP support in bios, so even if you do buy your "fast ram!!" you can't enable the profiles to get the actual speeds...and a 1060 is the bare minimum for graphic cards these days. That's just off the top of my head. If you bought this and paid over $550 for it...you just got ripped off.

I somewhat agree. It's 3 years later, of course, but the Omen we picked up in 2017 on discount is still in service today, getting decent frame rates in games like RDR2 and The Last of Us in 1080p. Granted, it came with a Core i7-7700 and I installed 16 gigs of DDR4-2400 in place of the stock 8 gigs it came with. The stock GeForce GTX 1070 still serves well enough in a decent balance with the Core i7 that neither bottleneck until beyond 1440p. I don't think I paid more than $500 for it at the time. It sat on a shelf at a local walmart for several months at $1200 before it made it to the discount rack. It definitely wasn't worth $1200 even then, especially considering HP's history of hyping the only decent component in a given pc while including literal junk to support it. The motherboard is trash and I'm being told that it's a totally non-standard format that can't be readily swapped, thus also making the case itself non-standard and pointless. It's definitely at EOL, though, especially considering that Windows 10 is EOL and that Windows 11 does not support 7th Gen Intel processors. However, with all the negatives being hindsight oriented, it's served us pretty well over the years, first as a mild workstation developing 3d assets with 3ds Max then being passed down to exist as a gaming rig. It's showing its age but it's still hanging in there, no credit to HP for that. It's the Intel Core i7-7700 that's worthy of whatever praise can be expressed for performing well with modern AAA titles.
