I know people think Colin had to suffer more but he didn't do anything wrong in fact. He was aaaalways nice and caring with Pen, always searching for her company, looking out for her. He simply did NOT KNOW she had a crush on him for so long. And obviously he didn't see her in a romantic way for so long, more like a younger sister..I mean they were friends since childhood! Imagine how difficult it is to leave this friendzone. It was obvious for the fans Pen was in love, but no one other knew about it. Not even Eloise noticed. In S3 you can also see how afraid Colin was about telling her that he loved her after he realized it...he really thought she could reject him and then he would have ruined her friendship. It was actually really brave of him to risk it. Pen never did that but I don't blame her. In S1 and S2 she was constantly friendzoned and in S3 she simply lost every hope. But weeeell. Here we are now and I looove it!!!

Also the contrast of Kate and Anthony being like "shhhh keep it down and try to ignore the people nearby" when they're *wink*wink* in Bridgerton House... ...then smash cut to Colin and Penelope moaning at the top of their lungs in the Fetherington carriage and not caring who might see or who definitely hears them (driver and footman, I'm so sorry you guys, I hope Penelope gives you a hefty amount of cash under the table for first putting up with her Whistledown shenanigans and now THIS???) Pen and Colin are both otherwise SO smart and perceptive, but this season is really hammering home that when it comes to their love, they haven't got a single braincell to share between them. They are so stupid in love and I love that for them. I especially love it for Colin. Penelope found the 'OFF' switch for his brain when she ran her fingers through his hair, man heard nothing but ringing in his ears when she did that.

Colin and Penélope are different from the other couples because they know eachother for years, the others didnt so they have years of relationship and friendship. Colin is in love with her for a long time he just didnt understand that until they kissed. Thats why we dont see the whole falling in love thing. Because they already were. Colin just needed to realise that.

When it comes to Penelope for giving Collin, it's not too fast. He's not a criminal for saying something dumb and not noticing or wanting to realize that he was in love with her. He convinced himself he genuinely didn't know. 🤷🏿‍♀️ So what does she have to forgive? He wasn't his best ones? Yeah Lady Whistledown??😂🧐 They have a lot of fights and a lot of forgiveness coming for them that needs to go both ways. Colin is not the bad guy.

In the book, the "comment" is only in the company of his brothers, not in public. Colin is actually only saying that because his brothers keep forcing him to get married. And he's much older in the book. So he gets frustrated by the constant pressure and says that

I think the carriage drivers are the same that drive Pen to the Print Shop so I believe they are trusted to keep quiet about Pen's...activities.

Probably true but Colin’s not going to risk anything. In the book (Pen’s thoughts in the scene are this might be her only time to be with him-so she’s the one who wanted to keep driving). Because of her insecurities, she doesn’t see the obvious…. Colin would never have done anything of the things he did that evening, if he hadn’t already decided he wanted her to be his wife. Including interrupting that dance.

7:32 I find it sad when people are disappointed that Lord Debling called what he's looking for a relative 'match of convenience.' I don't think that takes away anything from how much he likes Penelope. If we weren't watching Bridgerton, the thought that he would be prepared to say he was in love with her at this point would seem Coco-Bananas. But in his society, that's how you had to marry people, barely knowing them but choosing to trust liking them. (But we want to expect more from Debling because that's what we are reciprocally expecting from Colin. HOWEVER, that relationship has been in development for years. So objectively, an audience having those same expectations for two different approaches at competing for a similar goal [ 🖊️ ] , really isn't fair. We equitably are not allowed to have the same expectations of both things Penelope is being offered in the marriages that she has the options for at this point.) So I think him saying that he wants to get married for practical reasons, the exact same Anthony went into last season looking to marry, doesn't minimize what he can feel for Penelope. The only reason Kanthony’s love-story didn't look similar to Debling and Pen is bc they got opportunities to develop some kind of love before they were married. We saw them develop these feelings while ACTING INSANELY SCANDALOUSLY(and hurtfully).😮😮 Lord Debling, being an actual gentlemen, unlike Anthony respects Penelope's place in society enough to marry her with what he knows about her, and make a marriage that's Happy. It's different, but to judge that negatively would be like Violet's "perfunctory support” of the John-Frencesca match. So yes, not writing Lord Debling a spontaneous and unfounded passion for Penelope that would cause him to propose so soon may be less exciting. But that's far from defining how much those two people could grow to feel towards each other❤

I agree it is to many different side plots and not enough focus on Polin! They are supposed to be the leads and it doesn't feel like they are actually leading it! (Not their fault, the writing is not centered enough around them) Hopefully the second half will be. I am still living it so far though!

you are so right about ALL this except for one thing. Portia just 'protecting' Pen. she knows how security would make Pen happy (in a way) she won't need to worry about money or anything if she ever married Lord Debling. she might sire an heir too. in that time period, Portia was just wishing for the best for her youngest daughter.

On top of that, Bridgerton is pseudo-modern too in some ways, so Portia is like many modern parents stepping over the line between "tough love" and emotional abuse. That moment Portia pauses after chastising Penelope makes me hopeful she can comprehend the damage she causes/has caused Penelope when she treats Penelope the way she does, even if she never actually verbally apologizes or changes this season. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE TO SEE IT! As I'll never get that from my "but they're family"-mother, but I wouldn't object to seeing a character I empathize with live that for themselves.

Look I'm not saying Colin doesn't get to be mad when he finds out about Lady Whistledown, but now that Penelope has ruined herself worse than she ruined Eloise with her own scandalous gossip leak, and Colin ruined her proposal from Debling for more clearly selfish reasons than Penelope had in breaking up his elopement with Marina...Pen has kinda done her penance for her two most major sins as Lady Whistledown by getting the exact same treatment by Eloise and Colin. Lord Debling was nothing but honest with her and Penelope was prepared to accept him, so Colin had no other motive than himself when he interrupted their dance. Marina had a whole massive secret she was keeping from Colin. (Not that she doesn't have fair reasons of her own.) But Penelope at least had the truth on her side when she interfered in Colin's engagement. Colin interfered in hers for the sake of only his feelings, as he's still not certain Penelope returns his affection. So what I'm saying is Colin's gonna have to Get Over It eventually because he's the exact same as Pen and actually probably a little bit worse.

No, it's not perfect but it's a good start. They do, certainly, have to "beef up" the heat and the conflict within the show. They have the second-half of the season to get that done so I am patient. We'll see what happens, but the show knows that they have to try to top Season 2, for sure, right? They have their work cut out for them, but I trust that they will deliver the goods -- for Colin and Penn, Franchesca and John, Eloise and Penn (and Cresida?), for Benedict and his lovely lady, and who knows what else...even Lady Violet, perhaps?

Plus we don't know he's actually perfect/as good as he appears. No one ever mentions WHY Debling needs a wife NOW. Has he been married before? If so, what happened to the first wife? Does he have kids that need a mother since he's going on this expedition? I'm just really hoping he's not just another throw away character, you know? So much story potential!

​@@Reya_Sunshine I actually feel that we do find out quite a lot of things that make him less than desirable... he needs a wife now because he needs someone to take care of his estate while he goes on a THREE YEAR expedition by himself, leaving his wife behind to dend for herself - which is why he doesn't want to marry someone who might cheat on him while he is away if the guys she is in love with lets her know he's also interested, as Deblin - and anyone paying any attention - can clearly see Colin is. Also, he's weird (a nature-loving vegetarian) and people think he's boring for only talking about nature - the queen herself said it. In a time when people didn't have many entertainment options - they only had balls, concerts and exhibitions, and that was just during the season, i.e. for about 3 months during the year - being with someone boring was something to consider as a big negative. Finally, Penelope is a romantic, and being in a loveless marriage by herself is the opposite of what we want for her. He said it himself that he didn't think he would be able to love her because he was too focused on his passion for nature, and that was *before* he fully clocked in on Penelope's love for Colin... so not only does he have things that would put off other women, he is especially not a good match for Penelope. She's just holding on to him because she thinks he's her only chance at getting married since giving up on Colin...

@@priki I think I'm just not being sold on the severity of the repercussions of him not having a wife to tend the estate and it's leaving too much room for me to suspect nefarious reasons, like why can't his family see to it? If Pen married him would she be up against his version of her own family members? It also doesn't help me that it's Portia that relayed some of this information, her reaction is reminding me of Penelope's father and Cousin Jack, how they both turned out so too good to be true.
