They (Envouge) didn't write or produce any of the songs. They were used as instrumentalist. No different than the guy who played the drums. They played their voices. The writers and producers got the credits. The girls, being four, had to split their share of sales royalties. And Royalties don't get paid until all expenses like studio, travel, promo get recouped. She didn't get anything out of Lucy Pearl because she didn't write any of those songs. Raphael has gone through it with his own Brother Dewayne, who owns the Tony Toni Tone Name. So for Raphael, it's just business. She got paid to do the shows, if she couldn't afford her mortgage, that was her own problem. Where's all her Envouge money?
@barbarareel71mom1son0426 күн бұрын
@mc365mc "all" of her Envogue money?? Making 2 cents in royalties is not enough to splurge with 🙃 The Envogue contract was a mess from beginning to end.
@mc365mc26 күн бұрын
@barbarareel71mom1son04 She was in Envouge for a number of years. Artist with numerous hits don't make their initial money on records sales. They make their first money on Performances. Even back then they should have been getting 75-150k for regular shows and up to 200k for big events. So say the girls got half, after paying band, managers and expenses. Thats 25% of 60k for her share =15k. Do that for 6 months 3 shows per week (26 weeks × 3 shows × 15k) is $1.17 Mill conservatively in one year. She was in the group from 1989 to 1997 with 2 multi platinum albums an EP and a hit Single on Set it Off Sound Track. The group toured all over the World. She was in Lucy Pearl for 2 seconds. Lucy Pearl wasn't the reason her house got foreclosed! Her house should have been paid off! She made millions in her Envouge days, she thought should have made 10s of millions just singing in a group. It don't work that way. You are not going to make a lot if you didn't create the group, didn't write the lyrics, didn't write the music, didn't produce the record, didn't pay for the band, didn't pay for the studio, didn't pay for the hair, didn't pay for the flights, etc. etc. Cindy and Terry both understood. Dawn screwed them all by leaving. Cindy and Terry kept going as Envouge with or without the other 2 because that's where the money was.

@ Dawn was known to be the member that embraced rock and alternative music in EnVogue she was/is the youngest member in the group. During that time punk rock was the happening thing also you heard she used to be in a rock band in her teens. I remember in an interview she fought for EnVogue to incorporate different genres, in particular rock music in their brand. Free Your Mind was the result and it was really big on MTV. Then there was “What’s It Gonna Be” on the set if off soundtrack. If you noticed she sang lead vocals in “WIGB” and most parts in Free Your Mind.

Dawn was always the star of En Vogue and Lucy Pearl. They are all pretty, but Dawn had mad swag. We always wanted to see what clothing outfits she was wearing, what type of jewelry she sported, how she was wearing her hair, and how she walked, danced, and spoke. She always towed the line between being highly confident and flat out arrogant...but that's what we want from *STARS* because we elevate them. She has always been a favorite of mine and I'm glad she speaking out and setting the record straight. And I hope like hell she starts touring again--Solo.

I think that all 4 women of Envogue were stunning and talented. One of the things that I loved about them was how vocally they all held their own. Any one of 5hem could have sang lead. It was sad when the original group parted ways..I do however, understand the bad contract and money issue, creative differences though. This happens often with groups.

She does not have the work ethic to make it independently. A lot of people have talent.. talent is just one of the ingredients you need to be successful.
