One of my favorite things about reactions to this episode is how grateful to Angel everybody is for stopping Faith from hurting Xander.

You can see in some scenes that Faith feels guilty for what she did and she knows that what she did was wrong. But she is the type to double down on her bad decisions. She made the choice, might as well go all the way. Otherwise she'd look weak/pathetic. That's how damaged she is.

For someone who fudges up character names so often, you are always so perceptive and spot on with where character arcs or the narrative is going! XD

Angel was possibly going to help Faith, at least he seemed to be getting her attention, but then Wesley brings in the watcher council and messes everything up. Wesley was following his training as a watcher, but he's so inexperienced that he doesn't know how to navigate this delicate situation with Faith. Giles told Buffy he had no intention of involving the watcher council, and Wesley heard the entire conversation but couldn't see Giles was right.

You keep forgetting Faith has Slayer strength, so, Xander couldn't do anything against her. And yes, Xander was being sexually assaulted.

Which goes to show *just* how important (and progressive) Buffy really was. Even with all its imperfections, it was covering sensitive subjects 20 years ago that MANY shows still fear to touch. (playing the same theme more for laughs in Teacher's Pet, for instance) Not like we don't have current events that highlight that male victims are still not treated with the care and sympathy all victims (even all *alleged* victims) deserve. Hell, in many jurisdictions even now a man can not be raped by a woman, as legislators decided the act of penetration is the most relevant part, rather than consent. That to me says a lot of things about the people who advocate for and craft those laws)

@@lilywong9672 Indeed. But I'd even take that with a grain of salt. Hearing his attitudes I have friends *exactly* like it. Use their own past traumas/insecurities to justify acting the prat, use any authority they gain to their own advantage, treat any dissent or inconvenience as a personal attack. I don't think he's any worse than most bosses. But "Hollywood" seems to bring the worst out of many people. He likely just needs somebody to slap him upside the head when he's being a prick.

@@DmGray I'd urge you to read his latest Hollywood interview if you haven't done so. He does show any remorse for any crappiness he might have done. That's a shitty attitude imo.
@DmGray
@DmGray 2 жыл бұрын
@@zenithquasar9623 Honestly, even such evidence doesn't move me incredibly. 1) He's GOING to be defensive, especially considering that there is literally no benefit to "giving in" to criticism for somebody in his position. 2) Framing is a HUGE issue when it comes to reporting, even when it's an interview. 3) In 2016~ he pretty much jumped on the bandwagon to suggest I was part of a misogynist hate campaign (gamergate) so he's ALREADY personally offended me with his hypocrisy and woke brand bigotry. He has a shitty attitude. He likely thinks anyone he has ever wronged had it coming. I stand by my initial remarks. He's no worse than many bosses, especially in Hollywood & it would seem he's pretty damn loyal to those he believes have earned it from him. A flawed man who could REALLY use a boot in the arse and some actual consequences, for sure. But imo, not a villain.

Wesley really screwed up. It looked like Faith was starting to listen until he destroyed Angel's chances of helping. This is why The Council's rules aren't always a good idea.

Holy Anakin Skywalker, is Faith going to the dark side? This season just upped the stakes and now we have a possible Buffy vs. Faith conflict on top of everything else!

You know, I've been thinking. And as many times as I've watched this, I don't know why I didn't think of it before. But, if the Watcher's men had gotten away with taking Faith back, she most likely would have been killed. If we think about it, Buffy has "disowned" the Watcher's since Helpless and Faith killed a human, bringing attention to the slayer. The only way to get a slayer they can control again is by killing Faith. . . . things to ponder.

Hoo boy is this episode a ride. We get another peek behind the curtain of Faith, and we also get the curtains drawn up tight as a drum. Very, very interesting. The juxtaposition of how Buffy and Faith handled the fallout of the deputy mayor's death speaks volumes as to who they both are. And you're right in that Buffy has some experience with it, but Ted is more the relevant experience than Angel, as Buffy thought Ted was human initially, and thought that she had killed him.

Interesting/mindblowing fact: the colour pink/red used to be a colour meant to be worn by men and blue was the female colour. This is why you see The virgin Mary dressed in blue.

I liked Mr Trick, real shame he got killed off so soon. Also we see here how Wes is just a puppet for the council, following their rules to the letter. He's got the book smarts and does what he thinks is best but he's got no real common sense or experience

Really great episode, rich and interesting for Faith. It is understandable she had to admit her mistake of her murder and Buffy tried to help her, Xander and Angel too. But she saw everyone in Buffy's side so no place for her, logical for her to work with the Mayor.

1. Ew. Cordy and Wesley? Feel the same way with Buffy and Angel. I'd prefer the girls to be older rather than be minors hooking up with older guys. 2. LOL!!! Yes, I was watching with a big ol' smile on my face. Of course, I know what's going to happen. I'm just here watching one episode at a time acting like I'm seeing it for the first time and giving you my thoughts. Plus, it's also great hearing from everyone else. Growing up, I had no one to talk to about Buffy. It was me and my younger sister, who's 2 years younger than me. Since this was 1999, I would've been 13 yrs old and sis would've been 11 yrs old. There were some heavy topics being discussed but I wanted to hear it from others closer to my age. So it's cool listening to you and reading the comments to hear people's feedback. 3. Omg, what? Did you just refer to Wesley as Mr. Willy Wonka? Bwahahaha!!!!!! Hilarious. But in all seriousness, he messed up big time. See, if Buffy, Giles and Wesley sat together and talked he maybe wouldn't of set them up. And I'm pretty sure the Watchers Council talked mad crap about Buffy and Giles that possibly could be the reason why Wesley did what he did. He didn't trust them cuz the council doesn't trust them. And Wesley just follows orders. Smh. 4. And yes! If Faith wanted to, she could've raped Xander. But thank goodness Angel was doing what he does best and that's lurking. Otherwise, she would've killed Xander. Seeing what she's capable of, sometimes makes me think about how she grew up and how it's affected the person she is now. She comes from an abusive and traumatic background. We know her mom was an abusive drunk towards her and her dad's in prison. She witnessed Kakistos tear apart her watcher. And I can't even begin to think what kind of relationships she's had in the past with the guys in her life. All of this possibly affected her mental stability. I mean, she's just a teenager. Science states that when dealing with brain development, most people don't reach full maturity until the age 25. 5. And I agree with what you said about Faith putting up a tough act just to suppress her sadness and pain for murdering Alan. When you look back, she showed remorse the second she realized Alan wasn't a vamp and freaked out. And here in this episode, after Buffy pushes her aside to avoid having the pile of crates fall on her, Faith got up to help Buffy. Then after both get immediately ambushed we see her save Buffy from Mr. Trick. And finally, the look on her face when she goes to see Mayor Wilkins, to me, it didn't seem like a face with anger or sadness behind it. More like, she's given up. Like she's turned herself in to the Mayor but not in the way we saw it here. She chose to align herself with him for a reason.

Faith was extremely relatable to me because as she grew up on the mean streets if Boston I grew up on the mean Streets of the Bronx Living in the ghetto does make your emotions a bit harder. You have to. You can't be soft living in the ghetto. Don't misunderstand me. I dont condone Faith killing a man but they are fighting a War, in War innocent casualties happen. It's a fact. I understood both points from Faith and Buffy but Buffy had a better life where Faith didn't. Buffy and Faith live in different Worlds but I do understand Faith way more

Just three words: 'Preparation, preparation, preparation' which cleary Wesley doesn't have at all at the moment... Gee, there's so much I would like to say, but everything would be a spoiler... Let's just say that this ep lays the groundwork for characters' arcs and future relations in the show

Consequences was a brilliant but disturbing episode. Even though Xander had lost his virginity in The Zeppo, we still see his Innocence here where Faith sexually assaults him, and tries to choke him to death. The juxtaposition here is brilliant writing where Faith is the one with power, and Xander is the helpless innocent, showing that sexual assault and murder are crimes of power over the vulnerable. Brilliant writing again. She has the power 'I see, I want, I take' Xander proves here his is still somewhat innocent even though in The Zeppo he became more grown up and adult. An interesting line is drawn here with later episodes, as Faith has a soul and is deliberately acting like this in a fully conscious way. It shows here that sexual assault and murder are crimes of power over the innocent and vulnerable irrespective. Faith is now 'drunk' on power, and just thinks she can do what she wants to anyone
