I saw them around 1978 when I was in high school and shortly after they had arrived in the US and were playing small venues at the time. Bon Scott was simply one of the best Rock Frontman ever. I thought Angus was going to have a heart attack. Within two minutes of his manic energy he was sweating profusely and he kept it up for two hours. The cool thing was when I first saw them everyone new very little about them. We didn’t even know they were from Australia. So none of us didn’t know what to expect (remember there were no such thing as music videos back then). I think they started with “High Voltage” and within 3 bars we were all on our feet and stayed on our feet for the rest of the show.

I saw Bon when he was starting out, long before he joined AC-DC. There's a statue of him in Fremantle fishing boat harbour, he's buried up the road a bit. Perth, Western Australia. F*** I'm old....then INXS for free entry, playing every dive in town to get started. Perth was jumping.

Hey guys I am from Melbourne Australia and I turn 60 this week. Back in about 1976 when I was 16 I was walking in the centre of Melbourne and heard this loud music coming from down the road. I walked towards it and it and there was ACDC playing on the back of a truck. I think you will find this was ACDC's first music video and their first hit track. Been an ACDC fan since then (about 45 years) I last saw them perform in Melbourne to a crowd of about 70,000 in 2009. They still got it. Their rock and roll is timeless.

One of the reasons this song works so well is that they are singing about their life. ACDC were no instant smash. In Australia in the early 70's, they played pretty much every night for years, getting fans one by one. Then over to the UK and did the same thing, and then over to the USA to do it all again for the third time. Every day often travelling hundreds of miles, every night putting on the same high energy show. The tightness and perfect timing was the result. Those early years meant that when they hit the big time in 1979/80, they were so well practiced that they could seem utterly out of control, but yet be in perfect unison.

This is pre 78 AC/DC with Bonn Scott as the lead singer. He was great and then he passed away in 1980 and AC/DC was almost no more until the hired Brian Johnson and they released Back in Black. Which was a tribute to Bonn Scott.

Malcolm wrote most of the riffs as well. It was his band. Angus is the show and they recognized early just what an insane lead guitar player Angus is, so Malcolm relinquished any leads and stuck to rhythm, which he’s better at than basically anyone else. They’re brilliant

That's what brothers do . . . I heard Malcolm one time in an interview talk about how good Angus was and what a good front man he made . . . He might have said that, but his ability on the guitar is extremely good. Young was ranked 24th in Rolling Stone magazine's 100 greatest guitarists of all-time list and is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. My guess is he can play a little more then 4 chords ;-)

Pffft!! Well of course not! Where would they find a singer with the same tonal qualities that could also play the bagpipes? Heck, just the bagpipes in general would be a difficult find, when that is the only song that really uses them, to go on a full tour! I have no doubt that there is a ton of respect for Bon Scott, but I would also say there are some logistical problems to bringing a set of pipers for just one song.

This was recorded over 46 years ago, and it still amazing people that watch it. One of the best rock videos I've ever seen. It's the bagpipes that get me, so unexpected with such a hardcore band. I sometimes feel that Bon Scott is a little easier on the ears to listen to. Just imagine walking down the streets of Melbourne, back in the day, and a truck passes you by. One the back is ACDC rocking out hard, and with them are some bagpipers. You would just have to stop and watch them. Or if you were in a car behind them. Would you even bother trying to overtake?

The fact they were able to find Brian Johnson stay on top after Bon's death is a testament to the band as a whole. He was actually a drummer who leaned how to play as a kid with Fremantle pipe band. He only really learned the pipes for this performance and never playec again.

Bon Scott is severely missed. Brian Johnsons great in his own right, but Bons on a different level i.m.o. When you can successfully incorporate bagpipes in a rock song, snd make it work, you're accomplishing something. Also, I love how Rob is so in tune to noticing the integral details in what makes a song great, and when the bagpipes came on. I knew he would take notice.

I also think that Malcolm Young played a large part in the band. His rhythm guitar made the song in a lot of their work. Angus is the big gun, but Malcolm made the songs move.

Angus was just 20 when they recorded this song in 1975. Bon Scott was the lead singer then and they had yet to light up the world. Even then they were already a really good band. The video was made in a flat bed truck accompanied by a pipe band travelling up along Swanston Street, Melbourne in Australia. I recognise the street as I can make out the main train station and trams along the road from years back when I was in college in Melbourne.

Angus and Malcolm Young's older sister sewed his schoolboy uniforms on her sewing machine. On a little metal tag attached to the sewing machine it said ACDC with a thunderbolt in the middle which is where the name and thunderbolt of the their logo came from.

The legend is that they had the song rehearsed for recording when their producer, older brother of the Young's, commented that they should include bagpipes to instill their Scottish roots into the song. Bon said :"cool I used to be in a bagpipe band." Angus remembered seeing some used bagpipes at a pawn shop and went out and spent his last dollars to buy the pipes. The next day in the studio Angus presented them to Bon who queried "what is this?". Angus says:"you said you used to be in a bagpipe band." To which Bon replied "yeah, but I was the drummer"😏 Or something like that, but I always think of that and laugh when I hear this song. Awesome!!!

I'm 62 and a long time fan from the beginning.....I love all their songs....but this is one of the really good ones. The singer here is the original, Bon Scott. He passed away a long time ago. Angus Young is 69 now. Back in their early days, radio stations would not play their music on the radio before midnight.

I grew up on ACDC, and absolutely love this song/video from when they were nobodies. It's very inspiring. Look at the tiny crown chasing this band, compared to the arenas filled with paying fans, they would later play for.

You are right they are young because this was before ACDC was ACDC. They didn't become big till after Bon died. Back in Black was the break through. The genius of this song is a bagpipe solo and duel with lead guitar. Goosebumps all around.
