I saw Kenny in concert once. He said that in a lot of songs that tell a story, there's someone you feel sorry for. In "Lucille," he said, some people feel sorry for the husband, some feel sorry for Lucille, some feel sorry for the four hungry children, "and I met one weird person who felt sorry for the crop in the field."

There is a funny and very poignant story in Ken Dryden's book "The Game" about the song Lucille and Montreal Canadiens hard working forward Rejean (Reggie) Houle. The Game is one of the best sports books ever written and it tells of the team being on the bus and them singing Lucille when it would come on the radio. But they would stop because they realized it was "Reggie's song" and he sang it by himself with great sincerity. The book is worth it alone just to read the story about Guy Lapointe's hair. Actually I think you can see that story in the Google preview. I LOL every time I read it, I recommend you to go find it :)

Coward of the County is my favorite as it's another great story told in song form. That one will really get you worked up, once you realize what the song is about. But it has a awesome message behind the lyrics. Please give that one a listen to soon, you won't be disappointed. Other wonderful love songs from Kenny include - She believes in me, Through the years, You decorated my life, Don't fall in love with a dreamer, We've got tonight, & You can't make old friends...

@JRoss7072 жыл бұрын
“Ruby don’t take your love to town” was written by country musician Mel Tillis, you might remember from Hee Haw. It was based on a true story, his parents lived next door to a couple in Florida, the guy was an army officer who just returned from the Korean War, in a wheel chair from being shot up in the war, the real life story closely followed the song actually. The wife was going out and cheating behind his back until he reached the breaking point and he shot her. Most people equate the song with a Vietnam veteran, as it was released well after the Korean conflict.

You need to dive into Glenn Campbell, country is not my genre but that man was a guitar king played on many other artists albums tours and not just country. He had his own TV show and was a country legend and hit maker. Kenny is a legend no doubt, great song, but can’t believe you haven’t dived into Glen Campbell, he’s literally the Elvis/ Beatles of country and one of the best guitarists ever. Even Eddie Van Halen revered this guy and once said he would love to have guitar lessons from the late great GC🤘hope you know who EVH is 😂
@merlball85202 жыл бұрын
Campbell dropped off the map fast after the 80s. I wouldn't call him The Beatles or Elvis of country. He was great and very popular for a while, but there was never an equivalent of the Beatles or Elvis in country. The closest anyone came to that was Hank Williams Jr. Jr's time close to that level of fame was too brief, and pretty much limited to the market in the USA.
