Kasey Chambers is an Australian legend: the youngest person to be inducted into the Australian Music Hall of Fame, a dozen albums and has more than 30 ARIA Awards (the AU Grammy's). She is beloved but is ignored by radio and was shunned by Sony. She's been performing in her father's band since she was 12 years old (her dad is on the steel guitar on stage here). She had some pop hits in the 90s but her heart and soul is Country in her own style. She wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this song because she loves Eminem, and she had the time to rearrange and compose this masterpiece during lockdown. She is showing so much emotion because she has lived this to a degree as well. At the time of recording she was 46 years old and is a mother of three. This recording is the first time it was ever performed live and was done at the end of the concert. They thought it went well, so they used the recording from the sound desk and asked their fans who were in attendance to provide any footage they had to composite this one together. While there has been no public approval from Em, she has been allowed to put this song up on Spotify without challenge.

While they had a professional audio track from that night, they did not have any video, so Kasey put out the call for fans to send in the videos they took that night. the phone recordings were edited in to the proper audio track and this was the result. This is why the video is so low quality.

Yes AU is Australia. Fun fact: That’s her dad on steel/lap guitar 🎸 her whole family are musical genius’s 😂 She’s a big Em fan and resonated with this song cause she lived it as you can tell when she sang the last verse. No radio station would play her music being a country singer etc so she wrote a song called “not pretty enough” which ironically got so much air play and is what made her famous. She’s the youngest musician that is inducted into the ARIA Hall of fame (which is Australia’s version of Grammy awards) her other songs to check out are The Captain, Ain’t No little girl.
@dfdomo3 ай бұрын
Oh snap. Thank you for the Kasey lore I didn't know any of that. I will definitely check out your recommendations. Appreciate you for taking the time out to give me some knowledge 💯
@brettbridger3623 ай бұрын
@@dfdomo Kasey has the ability to paint emotion all over any song she sings. So with her other songs, you can basically pick the emotion you need and then select her song to match. 'Pretty Enough' - Came out of her frustration about the radio stations refusing to play her stuff, even though she was beginning to get successful. 'The Captain' - Sometimes you just want to give it all up and find somewhere to hide. 'Aint no little girl' - An adult women's reaction to some b@stard screwing her over. 'Nullarbor Song (Live)' - Homesick. 'Barricades and Brickwalls' - You can run boy, but I'm going to catch you. Before the sun sets, you're mine. As with virtually all Australian singers, live performances will always be better, so long as the quality is fine.

A testament to Marshall’s amazing songwriting ability and to Kasey’s immense creativity, musical ability and a positive result of Covid lockdown. ❤ Kasey didn’t change a word but put her own unique spin on a song she connected with and loved. Kasey is a massive Eminem fan by the way. Yeah, not something most people would get at the start but I don’t think I’ve heard a negative reaction to this yet in the last 2+ years since Kasey released this. Unfortunately we haven’t heard from Em/Marshall at all as to his reaction 😢, but his record company (ergo him?) gave Kasey the go ahead to record this and release it on Spotify etc.

Yeah Kasey did an amazing job with this rendition. I never thought in my life I could hear a work of art like this. Hopefully Em publicly gives Kasey the head nod for this amazing art she displayed with her family and band.

@bunyipdan3 ай бұрын
Bit of a massive understatement ‘by just slowing the beat’ almost insulting ..... Kasey brought soooo much more to this without stealing the original songs soul, for me it was like a story of generational angst, sorrow, suffering which built into personal drive to rise above then smacking us in the face with the heavy rock band final section and Kasey smashing that banjo like it owed her money ..... DAMN this was so much more than just slowing the beat ..... took an epic legendary rap song and rebirth Ed it into a bluegrass soulful epic power rock Ballard for the ages. Pure genius
