I’m an Australian and I’m a construction worker. So swearing is my first language😂😂 English comes later. But normally in music I either don’t care for it or it just seems very wannabe. This is one of 2 songs where the use of swearing actually enhances the song. Kasey uses it to smash home an exclamation point on the anger of the moment. It’s not wasted. It’s not needless. It complements the music the tone and the energy of the song in that moment. The only other song I have that feeling with is the song “don’t damn me” by guns n roses. Where it’s used to emphasise the point being made Which was in a lyrical context “Don't hail me an don't idolize the ink Or I've failed in my attentions Can you find the missing link Your only validation is in living your own life Vicarious existence is a fucking waste of time So I send this song to the offended I said what I meant and I've never pretended As so many others do intending just to please If I damned your point of view Could you turn the other cheek”

Lol cussing comes natural to me too. I grew up with a dad who built houses for a living, and all his dirty mouth employees, and then I went into the construction industry myself bc I felt much more comfortable there than in an office building 😂 Although I technically worked in the office, it was all men I worked with lol.

Kasey is usually described as a country singer. “Not Pretty Enough” and “The Captain” are my my favourite Kasey tracks after this one. In other reactors’ comments on this track I have read that it is Kasey’s father playing the Slide Guitar. The first time I heard Kasey was her singing The Captain when I was on a domestic flight. Thanks for doing this one! This gives me chills every single time I hear it. Kasey going from that resigned, laid back approach early in the song to the fighting emotion later is beyond powerful! 💪🏼 Kasey is very under appreciated and needs to be recognised more on an international scale! Kasey is a master of storytelling, conveying lyrics and emotion! She is an icon in the Australian music industry, mostly for country and folk, but has her own style and is never afraid to delve into something outside the box. She is just getting better as she gets older. I really hope that Eminem has seen this and appreciates that his song and lyrics were re-imagined in such a spectacular way. I guess he has, as he did give her permission to upload to Spotify etc. Would really like to hear what he thought about it though. Where else would you see head-banging with a banjo, steel guitar and rock band together? Kasey started her solo commercial career around the same time as Eminem and she was a big fan of his music. From what I understand, Kasey spent lockdown playing around with some of her favourite songs and this version of Lose Yourself is the result. Brilliant! Kasey has spent her whole solo career bucking the constraints of the record companies and always gone her way. She made it to the top in Aussie music anyway with many awards, becoming the youngest ever ARIA Hall of Fame recipient. BTW….how was that for breath and vocal control? Not to mention the awesome arrangement. ❤ Also, that was Kasey’s Dad, Bill, on the steel guitar and her brother Nash on lead guitar and backing vocal. Full kudos to Eminem for his songwriting. Personally, the reason Kasey’s version affects me so much is all down to the fact that she did lose herself in the music, the moment during this performance. Kasey kept the cadence but slowed it down, even in the full rock part. She is a true blue Aussie who will leave her soul bared on stage every single time. ❤ The video was a montage from the audiences phone vids… deliberately done to make it a more intimate experience.

Kasey Chambers is an accomplished Australian country singer-songwriter, she started her career at a young age; performing with the family group Dead Ringer Band, with father Bill and mother Diane along with brother Nash. She commenced her solo career in 1988, releasing 12 studio albums along with high performing single releases; her 2001hit single Not Pretty Enough, is her commentary on the reluctance of mainstream radio stations towards playing her music. Her 2017hit song Ain't No Little Girl, is one she said wrote her; it is said to answer the questions raised in Not Pretty Enough, she repeatedly resists being pigeon-holed to one music style preferring to incorporate other genres to broaden her music appeal. She is the youngest female to be inducted into the ARIA(Australian Recording Industry Association) Hall of Fame. Kasey is a huge Eminem fan, and during the lockdown for Covid she decided to change the approach to Lose Yourself; her father Bill who played the steel guitar in this performance, assisted her in her reworking of the song. Kasey's brother Nash has produced several of her songs.

Nice reaction. Calling this a cover is downplaying it. It is so much more than a copy or adaption. This is a reimagining of an already great piece. Kasey is known as an Australian pop/country artist and has received many accolades. She started in the biz as a 10 yo with the family band. Dad still plays in band with her and is playing the slide steel guitar on stage here. I believe the were well set up to record this and as you say had all the microphones mixing etc prepared - what they hadn't fully prepared for was video. My understanding (I could be corrected) is that they were pleased with audio but need more video to edit this KZbin and crowd-sourced it from people who had attended and taken handheld phone vids. It works for me. 😎 There are a couple of KZbin vids of her in the USA a few years ago. One doing a White Stripes cover is good.

Completely ignored by America and overseas musical interests purely coz she isn't a blonde blue eyed size 6 and therefore not 'marketable' to a modern generation... this princess has blessed our local music scene with mind-baffling talent and skills for well over 20yrs now...I am a full on metalhead and got dragged to a Kasey gig way back in 2003 kicking and screaming, but never have I headbanged as much at a gig as that performance at the Coogee RSL... and they pigeonhole her as country! Such an amazing version of an awesome song. It shows the strength of the song and the undeniable talent of all the artists involved to be able to take a banger of a song, completely turn it on its head, play it in basically two different genres (neither one the genre of the original) and make a completely new banger. @@ToniaElkins I saw Stevie Nicks perform here in Newcastle during her last tour and I saw Kasey Chambers perform as the support act for the Eagles at the local Hope Estate vineyard just before Glen Frey passed. They are both exceptionally talented artists Kasey has a long carreer (not as long as Stevies) and has performed and recorded in Nashville. I personally dont hear the similarity because Kaseys voice to me has a unique and different sound to it which probably comes across more on some of her other tracks. This was a great performance but that style is out of left field for her and I hope that she can do more of it..If anything her appearance and dress in the video gave me a bit of that Stevie Nicks vibe more than her actual sound. The Civic Theater where the video was taken has some great acoustics and is an intimate atmosphere for smaller fully seated audiences.
