There is no speed discrepancy with the pistons. It's just they are all going up to the same height so it only looks like the speed differences are exponential.

You can use the bouncing because it's too heavy in a carousel, because when it goes around the horses or etc bounce up and down

You could build kind of a steam locomotive vehicle where pistons extend and retract to turn the main drive wheels...actually this is the opposite from what we've been doing for the sliding doors! You'd be converting linear motion into rotational :D
