Legends are legends for a reason. These guys were just a phenomenon within a period of so much other great musicians. To stand out as special back then took more than just musicianship and even great song writing. There was so much great music in those days and the gems then are even more stellar today. Yes, these guys are probably most noted for their guitars. They had three and used them so perfectly to achieve a wall of sound at times yet never to muddy, noisy, or overwhelming because they didn't showboat, they served the song. Every student of music needs to spend at least a day diving into Lynyrd Skynyrd.

This is a Skynyrd Hidden Gem, it sure packs a brutal punch, its as sleazy as you can get, it's my fave on this 3rd album , why is it that the best songs have this groove where the instrumentation and Lyrics move together seamless , that's when you feel something special , like AC/DC's Overdose, Whole Lotta Rosie, Let There Be Rock , Back in Black , Hells Bells, Spellbound, Gun's n Roses Sweet Child of Mine, Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir, Whole Lotta Love, Ten Years Gone, In My Time of Dying, Ted Nugent Stranglehold, Lynyrd skynyrd Freebird, Simple Man , Tuesday's Gone, Sweet Home Alabama, Pink Floyd, Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Wish you were here, Money, all these songs and the legendary tunes have that special groove where lyrics and Instruments are the same and tell the same story together , it's Magical 🎼🎵🎶💯

Side note on your end questions, if not answered already. LS has 3 guitarists, all of incredible caliber, and they all took lead and rhythm in equal parts. Gary Rossington and Allen Collins were part of the original formation of the band in grade school, with Ronnie and Bob Burns on drums. Allen wrote Freebird when he was 17, you know that insane mental solo? Ed King was great, he was from California and was on the first few albums. Ed left and Steve Gaines came in for the last album.

I have been a devoted fan of the greatest band ever right here, just about my entire life age 13 to present age of 60. This is their 3rd album & 1 of the essential albums during their 3 guitar army era before Ed King left the band. Allen Collins & Gary Rossington, (who we just sadly lost on the 5th of March), were all such amazing guitarist who never got the proper recognition they were deserved & owed. They'll never be anyone who can beat 'em as far as my opinion goes! The 3 guitar army ruled & reigned & by far the BEST! But I know that somewhere in R&R Heaven they are all together again making that very unique sound & music & all the angels & even Jesus too are smiling & stomping their feet. Gary was the last founding member who was on every album from the beginning & to date. So with his death, that makes it all complete as far as originals go. I was planning on going to their upcoming Charlotte NC show, but not sure now because it'll be so sad not to see Gary up there. I was at their last show in Greenville SC October 19, 1977 just before the plane crash & I've still followed & seen them many times since they regrouped with surviving members to form the Rossington Collins Band & then on to become today's Lynyrd Skynyrd with Ronnie Van Zants little brother Johnny in his place. Johnny was the only one who could stand in his brothers place caz Ronnie was phenomenal! But 1 thing I do know, their music & legacy will live on until this world ends. And I will remain 1 of their biggest fans forever, along with zillions of more who I'm sure feel the way I do. Just put on ANY Skynyrd album & I promise you, your day will be happier & ROCK! Can I get a Amen?

Skynyrd guitar player ratings Allen Collins 9.5. Allen was doing things that only Clapton was doing at the time Steve Gains 9.0. Steve was only starting to show what he was going to become. He had flash and style and and made everyone in the band better Ed King 8.0. Underated. The most underated player in the band. Ed was a masterful player with style Gary Rossington 8.0. Gary isn't the flashier or most technically gifted player but what Gary has is feel. He never over plays but plays exactly what the song needs and has an amazing tone

One of my all-time favorites, period. They had three different guitarists who all played lead, they switched from song to song. Back then it was Allen Collins, Gary Rossington and Ed King. I think this song might have Gary on lead. I never really worry about rankings, but they were all great guitar players. The only statement I'll ever make about ranking guitar players is that, for me, there was Jimi and then everyone else. There's a long line of great ones after Jimi.

Skynyrd has always been my favorite band. The guitarist's. Allen, Gary & Ed on this album are so in tune with their playing. Each guitarist for Skynyrd had their own style. Gary was damn great with a slide, Allen was your hard get up & go way. Ed was a little of both but leaned more towards country picking
