Hair of the dog is a saying for when you are hung over, the cure comes from the same beast that "bit" you aka the hair of the dog (The cure for a hang over is that case would be more alcohol). The full phrase is "hair of the dog that bit you". In early times, they used to suggest when having been bitten by a rabid dog, that you either place some of that dogs hair into the wound or grind it into an elixir to drink believing that it would act like a vaccination for rabies. Another source of that saying was from the time when we did have a vaccination for rabies and the thought that if you could yank out some of the dogs hair during the event you could take it to a veterinarian and they could determine if the dog was rabid or not (which they could not) and if it were not, would eliminate the need for the 30 very painful injections of rabies vaccine. They now have developed a vaccination consisting of only 4 painful injections so it's not as neccessary to know for sure if the dog was rabid.

We do research on all the animals and share our findings with each other and our customers. I will try to talk someone out of an animal before I talk them into one. Especially birds and rabbits. People don't know how much you have to sacrifice for your animals. But it is so worth it! And yes, the doggie and kitty snuggles are amazing! We even get a couple cockatoos and macaws that come into the store.
