I 💕 loved 💕 this video because I have never seen a Hyacinth Macaw. I can't believe how karge they are . Honestly, at first I thought that Caroline had a big stuffed bird on her shoulder - ya know- like most of us who love burds...LOL I'm in awe. Plus, this tiny women has these enormous burds and she must have nerves of steel to have them free flighted. I've watched the Channel with the training for free flighted birds and to watch the fun, freedom of true flight and the joy these birds experience overwhelms me with happiness. Thank-You Marlene, George( do you have a waay older brother ( wink, wink) and Caroline. Thanks to the beautiful, sweet loving burbs that I get to know and fall in love with every day. Marlene - you are the sweetest kindest person. George - Tight hug...I watched the video where you helped a family who needed $65.00 for a room because they were down on their luck. I was humbled by your kindness, generosity of spirit, and compassion. God will bless you! 💕 It's important to understand that this could happen to anyone of us. We or family could lose a job, sometimes just the loss a days pay could be the difference between having a safe place to live and being homeless. If you can't afford the $ - a bag with water, sandwiches,an extra blanket and towels will help that person know that they aren't alone in this world. It could mean the difference between being able to present yourself the next day at a job interview and being hired. 💪 God bless you all. 🙏💕

Thank you so much Marlene for taking in so many parrots and giving them the wonderful life they deserve. As a parrot Mom, I can see that you definitely have a special way with these magnificent creatures. I especially love that you have a sweater on Jersey to keep her warm and to discourage plucking. My flock of 6 (2 parakeets, 2 cockatiels, Congo African Grey and my precious Blue and Gold Macaw) have been rescued by me. They are my world. I wish I had a beautiful, enormous house as you do, to rescue more! God bless you for what you do!

Hi Marlene, This was an awesome video, start to finish. Getting to meet Carolin's two Hyacinth macaws was fantastic. They are beautiful, I never knew that they are refereed to as gentle giants - it makes me want one even more. The bird farm we go to had one the other day; I wanted to handle it, but there were so many people around it I didn't want to shove my way in. You always want to know what we liked best, so: I really enjoyed the interaction between you and George and that George is becoming more verbal in sharing his opinions and knowledge about birds. As a couple, the two of you are becoming a more cohesive team in the videos. Next to the birds, I enjoy watching you and George grow together as a couple and bird specialists.

Your point about the bird having confidence in flight and balance/ landing is spot on! My BFA was re-homed from a breeder. He obviously had the opportunity to fly at some point and had never been clipped. His issue is with landing. I do encourage him to fly (indoors, of course) and I give him a lot of space. I can see that he's improving. I've had him for nearly 10 years. He is now able to land on the back of a chair- intentionally 😃. He will occasionally fly across the room, unprompted. He gets lots of praise and a big treat for that. He will also fly away from the cat (his friend, they generally ignore one another) they are never unsupervised....it is taking a long time for him to gain confidence in landing.

@@MARLENEMCCOHEN I also really loved the conversation you had about adopting being the same as rescuing because the parrot learns how to live in their own world with their own parent. When the parents change their world changes so the adopting parents have to adapt to their parrot. I wanted to add that parrots are practically human toddlers! They have so many needs and the parents need to provide everything for their parrot as if it is a tiny person. I work in a daycare with toddlers(I have 10 in my class) and parrots have the same needs. They need attachment, love and belonging, mental stimulation, physical activities and socialization. There's so much! I hope new bird owners read this and watch your videos and learn this! I love what you are doing by educating others Marlene. Thank you!

@NightMare I'm with you. No aniffing of birds. I too, have a Cockatiel & my dusty little girl likes misting/baths, but I have to use an inhaler somedays because I can't keep up with the dust. I am elderly. To dust up after her like I use to do isn't possible. 💕 I don't think that I would want to sniff birds for fear of giving them an illness and the fear of me catching an illness. My cockatiel is extremely sweet, gentle and loves, loves cuddling, so I am content. Plus, at this time we are in a Pandemic. Due to my age and health issues I can't take a chance of getting sick. I believe that children should be discouraged from bird sniffing due to the increase in poor air quality and childhood asthma has been on the rise for decades. Also, birds do get startled and being nipped near my eyes, nose or mouth would be be my fault- not the bird's fault. Stay happy and healthy. 😊😷💕

I had TWIN cockatiels. 2 birds, 1 shell. 1 male (Runt), 1 female (Bud). They both had shoulder problem (mirror images) and neither learned how to fly. Runt had a playmate (Dudley - gray cheek) and in the wild they would be enemys but because I introduced them when they were babies. One couldn't go to the vet without the other and when Runt died at 22, Dudley passed away within a week of Runt.

Thank you 😊 ive been looking into adopting a rescue and ive been to see quite a few but they all were mean and I couldn't pet them and I couldn't talk they would scream and attack the cages. It was horrible 😶 this man had 5 macaws in his pet shop and none of them was friendly and he wanted $5000 each from them. 2 of the birds had broken beaks and one was almost featherless it was heart breaking.... One day I'm gonna adopt me one and he/she will be cage free and spoiled.

The first time I saw a Hyacinth Macaw was at the Santa Barbra Zoo in Santa Barbra, CA, it was in a small non-walk-in aviary by the gift shop, I was quite impressed when I saw it, but sadly it’s not there anymore, I don’t know where it went, it’s not in the huge walk-in aviary past the reptile house along with the Scarlet, Greenwing, Blue & Gold and Military Macaws that are in there, and it’s not on a perch out in the open with clipped wings along a couple Scarlets, maybe it’s captive in another zoo or place, or maybe it’s been released back into the wild, where it belongs
