I didn't really didn't know about her music that much but once I started listening to her voice. The more I love it. She sings with so much conviction,and emotion that nobody else can come close to doing. She truly was a jewel in the Nile. That is blessed with that kind of voice. I feel blessed to hear her sing cause didn't realize who she was but I'm so glad I did. She deserves a statue in her name.

I had the privilege of seeing Laura Branigan perform live twice, once in 1988, and then again in 2002 at CBGBs of all places in what may have been her last live performance. She delivered way beyond expectations for both shows. A one of a kind talent gone way too soon. I'm so happy that you both recognize the raw power she had. Thank you for doing Laura's version of this song.Everyone does Celine and I have been suggesting over and over that Laura's version should be given a listen but all I get is disagreement over who's version is better.To me,all three are very good.It was written and recorded by Jennifer Rush,then Laura's version,then years later,Celine.To me,Celine's version is to polished.She probably has the best voice,but in my opinion,Laura's rasp and power adds more emotion to the song.This live version is shorter than the studio version.To get the full size power and emotion,you should listen to the studio version.Jennifer Rush's version is also less polished than Celine's and has more emotion,but again,Laura's version is my favorite.Part of that could be that her version is the one that I heard first and listen to for years before hearing any other version.

The little bit of gravel or breaking in her voice, especially the way she does it the studio version of this song, is so intimate and romantic sounding, yet a vocal nuance of hers that feels heartfelt and sincere. She sang this cover like she meant every word. Jennifer Rush's original version is still my favorite because of how her earthy voice and operatic styling touches my soul. I would be truly blessed to have a woman who could sing this song to me like that 😭

I “missed” Jennifer in her prime-in fact, I only discovered her 2 months ago. I am a big fan of Celine and only discovered Jennifer because I came across Celine’s cover of POL including Jennifer. I couldn’t believe my ears. I’m 84 and have heard them all, from Ginger Rogers to Edith Piaf to Vera Lynn. Then Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Barbara Streisand, Dusty Springfield, Tammy Wynette, and Bonnie Tyler. Add Gloria Gaynor, Connie Francis, Laura Branigan, Linda Ronstadt, Rita Coolidge, Celine, Mariah, and Whitney and you have the lineup of the greats right up to Adele and Susan Boyle. But, Jennifer Rush has the all-around best female voice I have ever heard. Her operatic training adds an unmatched vibrato containing depth and texture. And she sings everything: opera, pop, rock, and ballads in English, Spanish, German, and Hungarian. She has written or co-written the lyrics and music for many of her songs, done duets with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras, Elton John, and Brian May-sorry-Sir Brian May-and performed live all over the world-but not in America, except in March and April 1986 on the Carson show and the Dick Clark Show; that’s it. Great to hear the original version Laura had quite the hit on the radio with this song. Celine did it later as only Celine can do. Another tune like this is " When A Man Loves A Woman" the original from the 60's then later on done as a hit by Michael Bolton A singer named Luba did it in the 80"s with an incredible vocal performance.
