It happens. Kids who grow up with stuff learn that many "friends" were just after their stuff. People want to use you to go to events/ vacations, use your transportation, try to infiltrate your circle for selfish gain, etc. It's a sad reality that people that have things learn to question motives and keep their guards up.

My dad met this rich girl when he was 15 working at woolworths. She was made to work there by her dad to have a taste of the real world. He then met her sister and became friends with her, too. Now, the sister is the owner of a massive fashion brand, and the other sister inherited the dads business plus wealthy marriage. My dad has always been lower to middle class and has never asked or accepted money from them no matter how many times they offered, to not base their friendship on money. They are still the closest friends 40+ yrs later, and they have learnt much from him and vice versa. My dad is one of the most humble and kind people i know. When he was struggling, he only accepted help if they hired him for jobs so he could work for the money.

This was the one thing when I heard her say her nanny was the only one she knew on benefits I spit my drink. If you can spend that kind of money on a single purse your nanny shouldn’t be living on benefits she literally cares for your most precious daughter and your family. That should be more value than any purse but I do think Maria had a good motivation to do this and she was very kind and respectful ❤

I sincerely believe the economic system we currently have, wherein people can be so rich or so poor, keeps us all isolated from people who are not within our socioeconomic class. We all suffer under it, and though capitalism has allowed humanity to make great strides, it's outlived its useful lifespan and it's high time we start exploring better economic systems to improve the average quality of life for *everyone* including the poor, rich, and all other in between. Having so much money you're disconnected from reality isn't good, and obviously having so little you worry about food and shelter isn't either. Not saying socialism would be perfect, every system will have its flaws, but we can do far better as a society than we are doing now.

@@FirstnameLastnames here is the problem, within socialism, there is no incentive to "do better." Over the last 25yrs my family has moved 13x(11 states), hubs got a professional certification(PE)and a 2nd masters degree. Lots of sacrifice. However the sacrifice is worth it because of the position we are now in. Obviously that type of sacrifice is needed by someone, but who would want to do it without a motivator(ie more money). It's the same with everything. Who would work overtime? Who would study for 10+yrs? Who would become a roofer? Work on top of skyscrapers? Be a trash man? Sewer worker? All of these jobs require some sort of sacrifice, yet if you could make the same wage at Starbucks pouring coffee, why do any of the hard or gross jobs? Why sacrifice family time for further education? At least in the US, anyone can sacrifice and make more money & improve their situation-which to me is the best system of all!
@kristinesharp6286

@@FirstnameLastnames in socialism almost everyone is poor. And when the few that are not run out of money it falls apart. Brand items are the art of the Middle Ages. The rich paid artisans to create beauty and gave them support for doing so. So Chanel is today’s art and the artisan greatly paid. Maria likely lost her money and perhaps got sent back to Russia after the invasion of Ukraine. This was 2018. There is a reason Maria was not in Russia. There is a reason why they didn’t stay in Russia and went to the capitalistic west. Although capitalism does have social safety net.

I agree it's like that, when I paid for food which was not long ago I would definitely get less food also I don't buy food that often so when I get food now it's more because I don't like to make many trips. I also think it's like that because you can't get anything with supplements or hot food so I get what I can get but typically I would not spend as much on food and I'd have to get only what is cheaper and just for me my basic food necessities. I'm glad for food stamps even if it's just for the time being.

That is a great sentiment but highly unrealistic. Those fancy prancy £2,000 little girl dresses are absolutely impractical for everyday use for middle class or lower class families. It would be better to sell them on Posh or eBay and donate the money to the charity shop to help the truly needy. Believe or not there ARE rich people who will buy designer clothes second hand for their babies and toddlers. They only wear them a short time before growing out of them, maybe just 2-3 times. So the uber wealthy can sell them to the merely rich folks. If putting them on Posh takes up too much of her time, then pick one of the charities like Goodwill that have a selling website for their expensive donations. What does she do with those kids clothes now? Just toss them in the trash???

Because she's shallow rich and spoiled. This little act she put on for the show was cute, but we all know she's going back to her spoiled little rich life, supported by daddy when the show was over. Oh yes, and she's going to be so big to donate those clothes to thrift shops like that's what poor working people really need. Pay her personal servants, a living wage. Then we'll see that she's starting to get real. Help support the local food banks. Then maybe she's starting to have some morals and ethics.

even if i could buy designer clothes and everything brand new for my kids I think they are better off not getting absolutely everything they want. It's healthy for them to experience having to work for some things and to not take things for granted. a good example my parents did with me is having me save up and pay half for things (like a laptop when i was 18) and they offered to pay the other half. i still want to "spoil" them, but in a way they appreciate it and don't feel entitled to it

Excellent program and honestly it seems like the rich girl has a good amount of empathy after being met with the reality of their situation. Thank you for covering this important issue and allowing us to see the extremes of the spectrum.

One of my FAVE shows u guys have put on this channel. I think it's quite good because most of these kids, towards the end of the show, they can somewhat understand how hard it can be when you're living on a major budget, etc..

It was good for Maria to have the experience but people should not judge her lifestyle. If you can afford that lifestyle that is your world. Money has less meaning about the amount the more you make.

It's easy to be kind, empathetic, and sweet when you're playing a game and you know you're going back to your rich b****, life. Wonder what daddy did in his life and what lives he destroyed, to become filthy rich in russia, to support her like that. If she was really a good person, she wouldn't be taking that money.

Cashmere wool, usually simply known as cashmere, is a fiber obtained from cashmere goats, pashmina goats, and some other breeds of goat. It has been used to make yarn, textiles and clothing for hundreds of years. Cashmere is closely associated with the Kashmir shawl, the word "cashmere" deriving from an anglicization of Kashmir, when the Kashmir shawl reached Europe in the 19th century.

Re; Maria’s story First and foremost I want to Say Well-done Maria!!’ your gift to this family was the most thoughtful in comparison to the others who went in the homes of poor and struggling families. You gift show you are not selfish and you really want to make a difference in the lives of the people you come across. While the others was just a minimal thank you. 1) I just want to comment on a couple of things. In the beginning of the upload where Maria is going thru the baby’s closet a d her handbags. Maria’s bedroom or her baby’s bedroom, that is all white with the king size bed, possibly hers” or the Nanny to nap with the baby, or if it is her bedroom it is confusing. That bedroom has nothing in it. Is this a fake home where she just brought and put a couple of things in the closets for the show??? If it is a minimalist appearance she is going for, she hit the nail on the head. However, most minimalist do not spend 5k, 14k, and 34k on a handbag. So, Whose plain white bedroom is that? 2) Maria’s comment that the only low income people she knows is her Nanny. I believe that is what she said. Maybe it means something different in Russian. But in English it means someone who babysits. This is not like a teenage babysitter who may watch the baby while the husband and wife go out to dinner or a movie or both for 2-4 total hours on the weekend; one Saturday or Sunday a week. The meaning of a nanny is a full-time position of someone who comes in on a regular schedule from 3 to 7 days a week. Sometimes a couple may need more than one because no one person is going to want to work consistently a scheduled 7 days a week. So, a family with a demanding work or charity schedule may have 2 nannies. 1 for Mon-Fri, and the other on Sat-Sun. Or, 1 Mon-Thur and the other Fri-Sun; or Fri-Sat and they have Sunday as the designated “alone time day; the day the couple spends alone time with their child(ren). Interesting- What I find very telling is when Maria says, she only knows one low income person or family; her Nanny. Then she quickly says, “but I pay her” or something similar. And her facial expression tells it all. In that moment, in real time she is becoming aware that she probably does not pay enough because her nanny is still considered low income. What floors me regarding rich people is in their child’s most formative years, they do not like to pay for their child care. They want to treat and pay their child care staff, like they are teenagers who may spend 2-4 hours one day a week. They like to have bragging rights on how their child care staff has Masters and doctorates in childcare, education sociology; etc, but do not feel that they should have to pay for that criteria yet because the child is not in school. If they cannot show the criteria of the staff openly until the child(ren) can receive certificates and ribbons of good behavior, best penmanship, etc. What they should realize is in these formative years that should want to pay for the best and brightest to bring out the best and brightest attributes in their children starting early on as possible. Might, I add, when Becky and Maria do the comparison of the finances and what they spend, Becky is looking at Maria like she could just rip her head off of her shoulders. You can tell Becky fell like Maria should fell guilty. Fresh vs Frozen veggies. The frozen last longer because no one wants to eat them. When the veggies are fresh they have more of a flavor and people will consume more. These people; both the rich and the poor took time out of their lives for others to come in and judge their lifestyles on both sides. The poor fqmily may recieve a little something for participating in the show, but they are not being paid enough to bare their souls; their lives and children’s lives for millions + of peiple to watch for years to come. These kids can be teased by their peers, past and future friends may sit in judgment of putting their and their children’s business out there. The rich people will look good in the public’s eyes, so they do jot have a high risk of loss by being on this show, but the poor people on the show will have conflicting views put upon them. so they have more of a risk.

All right, I commented a bit harsh so I deleted that and decided that it’s nice that they try to learn. It’s not really their fault that they grew up like this and their parents kind of failed them for not teaching them how it is to live with less money. It’s nice that she brought chocolate for the little one, very thoughtful.

I don't care how much money I have, I would never spend 1500 on a 18 month old clothing. My family passed around our kids clothing because they grow too fast. This girl is selfish and out of touch. Her parents didn't teach her to value what she has. Shame on them for that part.

I admire these people tremendously. I thought Dad looked deeply embarrassed at one time. I understand that. Even though he was performing at his best, with his job,the “ Western Culture “ is richer than the Middle Eastern. My husband grew up in Portugal & he had a few negative comments about American Culture. I learned so much from him.

She cares as much as it's easy and comfortable to care. She's not giving up a darn thing when she goes back to her life as a rich person and probably still won't even pay her own servants very well. And I use the word servants, because that's probably exactly how she really thinks of them. She's so clueless that she buys rich gifts for this family that really doesn't help them, and it certainly doesn't cost her, because it's all daddy's money.
