Nikki is to be respected for working so hard and not relying on benefits and she's a loving mother. Nikki is so likeable that anyone would feel privileged to have her as a friend. I love the scene about the charity shops; they both have great taste. This episode is one of my favourites because it has such a feel-good vibe with lovely people.

Fatima seemed a little sad early on, like she was searching for something that she couldn't quite put her finger on. However, when she got to the house you could see a change in her. She fit right in and her caring nature showed when she read to Imogen. Nikki is such an inspiration. I wish her the very best in life and hope she realizes her dream of getting her own house and being able to go on holiday with her daughter. This was such a lovely episode.

Disturbing that someone who has a degree and works full time in a socially important job is living in poverty. Noone should be so poor who slaves away 40 hours per week, especially someone with a degree in their field.

It is unfair. I saw on the news (about 6 years ago) two college professors in the U.S. who are homeless, living in their cars. Some of the most educated and dedicated professionals are paid far less than they're worth.

They grow up TOO fast That little girl should be experiencing the childhood her mother is giving her. I am so glad cell phones were NON existent when my kids were little my oldest is 24 & He didn't get his first cell phone until he was 14. Nikki is doing a great job raising Imogene ❤

Both Nikki and Fatima were lovely women.I was impressed by Nikki’s hard work ethic, strength & resilience and how great a mother she is to her daughter.Fatima while being extremely privileged was very humble and thoughtful and was willing to pitch in and even offered to do more and whether she was fully honest about the dress and purse or not she was thoughtful of their feelings and wore the outfit….i’ve bought secondhand clothes, etc before but I at least freshly wash them before I wear them. While the person who donated it likely cleaned it beforehand still many people probably tried it on in the shop and like I said I would have washed the clothes prior to wearing them but in this case I realize there wouldn’t have been time to dry them. But anyway they were both lovely. I’m surprised more of these kids don’t come to the conclusion that they should donate their unwanted clothes, shoes etc to 2nd hand shops or donate food to food banks or seek out other charities & programs that help those who are struggling to meet their basic needs. There’s only one out of all the episodes of this that I’ve watched recently that said they would donate to secondhand shops & food banks.

This isn't a critique of Fatima, who represents how education and culture can produce open-minded, curious, and compassionate young people. But I've noticed in several of these that students take advantage of these reality TV appearances related to social concerns likely also to advancebut them as they apply for med or law school. Hopefully all parties are able to similarly benefit from the increased visibility.

It’s shocking to me that parents have to pay for swimming lessons. In Australia water safety lessons are part of the school system. I know we supposedly have a “beach culture”, but I live in Tasmania where the beaches are windswept and the water is freezing. Dams (ponds) on rural properties actually present a greater danger to children here. It’s just common sense for kids to have water safety classes unless they live in a desert. Just teaching younger children how to hold their breath if they unexpectedly plunge into water, not panic, and find ways of escape or self-preservation, such as being able to tread water, can save so many lives.

First off what a amazing mum. Imogen is such a good sweet girl and absolutely GORGEOUS! Their lunch was really sad. All they had to eat was a quarter serving of half the ingredients for a deconstructed salad. In all but one of these programs I've watched the families all took their meals on the couch. Dining rooms are essential. It's bad enough they only have one lounge. Having to use a single small lounge for all activities is depressing. It's no wonder mental health and substance abuse is so high among the poor. These tiny inefficient and unhealthy homes breed disorders. These disorders are then breed into the next generation. This cycle of disorders and poverty gets worse with each generation. Tragically with our nation's wealth consistently hoarded by a select few, often times parked offshore, there simply is not enough government revenue to improve housing conditions for the poor. The situation is made worse with each passing year as personal incomes decline, resulting in less tax revenue. The end result is more demand for housing. Existing council properties fall further into disrepair due to a lack of investment. Council obligations and debts have never been this out of control. Why are the washing machines in the kitchen? I have a mate whose washing machine and tumble dryer are in a cupboard in the second floor corridor. I have two laundry room facilities, one on the lower garden level and another with two sets of large American style laundry machines on the third floor. The housekeeper is responsible for amazingly recommending two of each American sized units. Such a time saver. Not to mention laundry facilities should be on the same level as the primary suite and/or the level with the majority of occupied bedrooms. Obviously space comes at a premium for families living in council properties. Creating a laundry cupboard would definitely free up space for a dishwasher in the kitchen. Most don't require a full sized dishwasher. We have a cute little dishwasher that pulls out like like drawer down in the concessions of the cinema room. I think this is the right size for most of the families in this program. A smaller dishwasher drawer frees up space for storage, a spring water chiller and dispenser, or a beverage/snack refrigeratoror for the children to serve themselves. For this mum moving the washing machine out of the kitchen would provide space to have her refrigerator installed in the kitchen where it belongs. Where is laundry kept until it's all washed if there is no laundry room. A family of four typically changes three times, pajamas, dressing gowns, and soils bath towels, hand towels, face cloths, tea towels, and gym/sports gear each day. Add to that changing the bedding twice a week. If laundry is not daily where is it all kept? Don't most hang their clothes to dry as well because they don't have room for a tumble dryer. I now understand the constant news stories of damp, mould, and health issues in older council properties. This program has been a real learning experience. Council homes are just so cramped and inefficient. We need billionaires to donate a large portion of their assets when they pass to fund the building of new housing estates and tearing down and rebuilding the old properties. This mum and other house proud working poor deserve better accommodation. Nobody other than a family of seven or more needs a ten room home with multiple lounges. However the working poor, who take care of their homes, should live in a proper home with at least one full bath per every two children and separate toilet closet or full bath. It's impossible to get more than two children showered and off school on time with a single tiny bathroom.

I grew up rich and we didn’t even have a “dining room”. We had a large kitchen table that was used for eating and for any other activities that needed a table. Nowadays I eat on my couch often and I don’t find it depressing at all, I’m just amazed that these little kids are tidy enough to eat on the couch! When I was a kid I wasn’t allowed to eat on the couch or in any room that had carpet because I could have spilled and those things are a pain to clean.

I stayed in various apartments and B&Bs across UK/Europe last fall and I have also watched numerous British reality shows. Most of the time, the washing machine is in the kitchen. I found this to be the case in Spain, London, Paris, and a few other cities. So it isn't uncommon. I personally would not be happy to have laundry smells going while probably cooking or eating in the same room so I agree it's not ideal.

The one thing that annoys me about this show, is how they always make some ignorant comment about the rich participants. I enjoyed this episode, both Nikki and Fatima were very kind to one another, and seemed to have a lot in common regardless of income level. The wage Nikki is being paid despite having a degree is just wrong. I've seen people on benefits in these kind of show's who stay at home all day receive more than Nikki in a month. I have read comments where people say that because she work's for a charity, that it's not a real job. Many people work for charity's, and some ceo's take home millions. Nikki could probably get a job in a non charity setting and make more money, but she chooses to help people who are the most vulnerable, and she work's with the youth, to help them to succeed, and i think it's a job which really helps people. I believe in Jesus, and know that we are to love our neighbor, and to help other people. I don't go to church, because I haven't found one that teaches what i have read in the Bible, but i know that eternity is a long time, and our life is just a breathe, compared to forever. I follow Christ, because he died for our sins, and i hate this world and how corrupt it has become. I pray that we all have faith, and return to our Father who gave us life. G-d bless everyone.
