I only just started watching these and your right on many point's, cause he doesn't seem over the top, nor does his house, for me its a bit closer to a middle income family type house with people who are down to earth who worked hard for their money and what they got to give to their kids...plus the family he spent time with seem's more like the one's these kids should be at and not one's only living in dumps on government funds...What floor's me is the one's who work only bringing home 1k a month, I mean I did that back in high school or first years out of school in the 80's... Now I would consider myself a bit spoiled, we lived in basic ghetto to richer type life, even after I moved out for my 2nd marriage was like that, but I have never stopped living how my mother taught me on getting the most out of your money...also my kids were given the same as I did, like buying first car and helping at other things, but taught to appreciate it and work as part of the family doing what things needed to get done to get these type of things...plus we were never one's on like bday's or xmas to just go out and buy a bunch of random crap so it looked like they had a lot but was stuff that lasted 5 mintues for kids, to me that was just throwing money in the trash....so we would get fewer things but be really thoughtful on the choice's for each kid to make sure it was something that could be useful in life (like a laptop) that they can use for many year's then maybe a few smaller things... Really liked the balance of the people in this episode, only thing I didn't get was the woman for breakfast taking 2 pieces of toast but gave the guest 1 piece who is a guy, who normally eat more...plus why didn't she get her parent's or other family member's take turn's in watching her kid and then maybe go to work herself so it can make things better for them...stop worrying about taking vacation's...even us with making 6 figure's who have rarely taken a vacation and with a family of 6 we have never gone together at same time either...plus if you look around there are ton of things you can do with your kids for free...

@@SnowWhite-wt4pwmaybe off camera (or in a scene they cut) the guy asked for only one piece of toast. These shows are edited. This seems like easily a possibility without even thinking about it for more than a few seconds. Also, you dont really know the situation in its entirety. Maybe there’s a very valid reason she doesn’t leave her kids with her parents so she can work herself. Maybe her parents don’t want to have to watch her children all the time while she works. Maybe she can’t trust them to care for them the ways she prefers (like some grandparents don’t believe in food allergies and will feed their grandchild food the mother told them not to. Some will allow their grandchild to do things the mother doesn’t allow like certain games, etc.). Maybe her parents get easily fatigued or pained from old age and wouldn’t be able to handle being in charge of the children that long on a nearly daily (or daily) basis. Like, you really seem to be making a lot of assumptions here about this women’s life from a very edited television show.

Amen, we need more of that especially in the USA. It’s the opposite here where the majority of people on benefits ( welfare) don’t have any desire or intentions of doing better for themselves through hard work and saving. Why bother when you get handed everything for free and then work side gigs getting paid under the table and they don’t report the extra cash so they are doing better than alot of working folks. People lack pride in themselves. Its wonderful to see struggling folks do for themselves and even if they don’t have much at all they have pride
@bunnylacy20975 ай бұрын
@@sjay7209that’s really not true. Stop spreading lies. That’s just a popular stereotype that’s spread around to piss people off and get them to vote to lower benefit amounts and get rid of them if possible (likely coming in the future unfortunately). Most people on benefits are disabled, single parents who even if they got a job they still wouldn’t be able to afford childcare with the income on top of bills and everything else essential. Many people on benefits actually do have a job though. Including myself. I don’t get many benefits, but I do get food stamps and medi-cal health insurance, which I am so so thankful for! My food stamps do not pay even close to what my food costs each month, but it’s helpful. I work as much as I can. I’m disabled with various chronic illnesses so I can’t work a regular part time job or full time job without eventually losing that job because I become too sick to preform my duties (my illness flares off and on and flares can last months if I’m overworking my body during them). So this means I have to do odd jobs. Like babysitting while the parents go on a date night, to a doctor’s appointment, etc. Sometimes I clean houses when my body can handle that. I detail care when I’m able to. I do all types of work. I’m also going to community college right now to become a forensic scientist. You see the news and politicians spreading around the belief that people don’t want to work and they just want to stay on benefits, but that’s not the case for most people. Benefits do NOT pay enough to live comfortably on. Most people want to live comfortably and therefore would prefer to have a job that paid more than the benefits they receive.
@bunnylacy20975 ай бұрын
@@sjay7209also, my odd jobs are not paid under the table. I pay taxes on them. Just so you can’t talk crap about that.
@bunnylacy20975 ай бұрын
Hi, just wanted to let you know that the person who responded to your comment first is very wrong about US citizens on benefits. Sure, some of them don’t want to work and would rather stay on benefits and may even do jobs that pay cash and not claim the cash on taxes to keep the max amount of benefits. But that’s not most people. Some people just believe that to be true because politicians spread that stereotype around so they can get voters to support the government when they continually cut funds for retirement benefits, disability benefits, unemployment (which has a time limit that you can be on it and you must prove that you’ve been applying to jobs each week), food stamps, etc. Truth is, benefits pay so little that it’s very hard to live on it. They don’t pay enough for a comfortable life. Most people would rather be able to do a job that pays more than their benefits. Including me! I get food stamps and medi-cal (which is the other free health insurance in California and you have to be pretty poor to get it). I’d love to make more money, but I’ve been too sick from my chronic illnesses to work a part time or full time job because I lose my job when I end up having a flare that lasts months and makes completing my work duties impossible. If I push my body too hard I end up in the hospital. I’m also going to college right now so that’s also why my body cannot handle a full time or even part time job. So I have to just do odd jobs when I’m able to, but unlike what he said, I don’t get paid under the table for those jobs. I pay taxes on them. So many people in the US are disabled and too sick to work enough to stay off of benefits. So many people are single parents and don’t make enough money to cover the necessary childcare to go to work until their child is old enough to go to free public school (which gets out around 2:30-3pm, so the typical 9am to 5pm job won’t work unless they find and can afford child care for after school). It is so much more complex and complicated than what the man in your comments is making it out to be. And it’s like sure, why have a baby if you cannot afford them on your own? Circumstances change. Some people lost their job, their partner (so only one income now or none), birth control isn’t 100%, condoms break, etc. Not everyone can handle abortion or adoption. We as people need to start making less assumptions about people and start questioning more the narratives that politicians are putting out. If a politician(s) are constantly talking about how no one wants to work and they’re all on benefits, then later they support a bill about lowering the monthly benefits payment to elderly and disabled, can we really trust him to tell us the truth? Is he just over exaggerating to get an outcome he wants for that bill? I could go on…
@bunnylacy20975 ай бұрын
@@sjay7209ah almost forgot, a ton of people on benefits are also elderly and they never made enough money to have a good enough retirement lump sum saved up. They paid into the system to get their retirement benefit, and the budget for it has been cut multiple times so it’s so little many elderly have to rely on family to make ends meet because it doesn’t pay enough to survive. They’re too sick, old, etc. to continue working. Some elderly actually do work until they die though or until they’re on their death bed because they cannot afford not to as long as their body allows. Idk how any of that is okay or acceptable. Let’s focus on people struggling like the elderly, the disabled, and the single parents, etc. out there instead of focusing on that small portion of people who are abusing the benefits system.

It’s not only about finances. When children grow up in a household where they don’t learn table manners, where they play with smartphones at young age instead of playing outside or reading books, where they grow up with a scarcity mentality “we can’t do this” vs “how can we do this”, they are programmed for failure. Some people don’t have money, but they know how to dress (second hand), they eat at a proper table, they pay attention to manners and education, they tell their children to perform well in school and set expectations. It’s not linked to income. Living on a small budget is hard, I don’t want to minimize this at all. But you can have nothing and still be hungry for success and use the available tools to catch up with others in society (use KZbin for instance to learn and broaden your horizon), so that you have a chance at succeeding in life. I’m thinking of some immigrant families who come with nothing but a willingness to build a better life, and their children grow often into very successful adults because their parents set standards. Please stop talking about money only but also talk about mindset.

Having been poor my entire life I wept when I saw this. The contrast in this young man’s life to theirs was shocking. Giving them a bed frame and a holiday in Blackpool was a nice gesture, but I was hoping he might sell his excessively expensive watch and bag and give them the money so they could decorate their home, fill their pantry, buy some clothes, perhaps a bedside table and lamp and have a little left in savings in case of a need down the road. When the rich young man approached Jesus and asked him what more he could do to be able to get to heaven someday, Christ told him to sell all the excess he had and feed the poor and follow him. Unfortunately the sacrifice was too much because the young man had a lot and just couldn’t let go of it for the benefit of others. I’ve often wondered how his life went and now that he’s on the other side what he thinks now of the decision he made to walk away and keep everything.

it is not nice as Christians to use scripture to judge someone wrongly. he is privileged yes, but that doesn't mean he should give up what he loves and brings him joy just to please the family. I think he prioritized what they really needed.

I grew up poor, I at one point as an adult had only $20 for food per week… that was for only 3 months. I would never ask for charity, never! I’m sick and tired of people who expect others to pay for them. I expect families to look after their own, help family members with getting help, support for mental health, and work. I don’t think taxpayers should be paying for welfare.
@priscillavanessa57985 ай бұрын
@annetoronto5474 do you feel the same way towards corporations who pay their workers poorly? I don't live in the Uk, I live in the US, a country that really don't give a crap about it's citizens, and for me if my taxpayer dollars must be spent, I prefer it go to those who have nothing as opposed to them going towards corporate welfare. Sure there are always going to be moochers that want don't want to work for their money but I think history has proven that it's the ones at the top that are the best at wanting to get paid for doing nothing, making millions while using public infrastructure, but crying poor when it comes to paying their fair share of taxes... and still expecting tax payers to give them a break because they bring jobs. Please, I don't think there is any shame in asking for help when it's needed but to ask for it when you have plenty like these corporations do, to pay so little for what is called unskilled labor is truly shameful in my eyes, I wonder how much profit would be made w/o "unskilled" labor, are you bothered when your tax dollars go towards helping out people who already have millions or do you save your disdain for "the poor"?

@@priscillavanessa5798 Corporate welfare has to end, here in Canada, Trudeau just “invested” 5 billion dollars for only 1000 jobs for Canadians and 1600 foreign workers. I understand how people feel that they deserve universal basic income when they see how much money is wasted on corporate welfare, foreign funding, and wars. We need to reduce taxes taken from citizens.

Am I doing the math wrong or did the husband say he makes like $6per hour basically? 40 hours a week and $1000 a month. I’m lost.

That was after tax, so before tax would be a bit higher. Still not a lot to live on though.

Does the UK not have laws for minimum wage?
@ianwinslett50135 ай бұрын
@amandamagni1606 not USD... Pounds. At the current exchange rate 1USD = .79 Pounds. In other words, 2k pounds per month is equal to $2546.44. That's after tax. It's the equivilant of making 35-40k/year in the US. Which is $16-$19/hr... too lazy to do the actual math.
