@anadubar481910 ай бұрын
It's like the gypsies elsewhere, called Sinti and Roma. They deliberately marry off their daughters at a young age (talk about 14 ...) so they are bound in marriage, with little children, before they can develop a mind of their own, and become strong enough to protect their independance. It's a way of imprisoning them. They know it, but feel helpless to do anything about it. If the marriage is unhappy, and they are beaten, they still can't get out, because they have absolutely no education, can't read or write, and wouldn't be able to support themselves (let alone their children) financially. So they remain trapped, and often beaten for their whole life. Others call it culture, I call it oppression.

That's just the kids the men don't know how to do any of the house hold work they can't even do there own laundry let alone cook, clean and take care of kids all at the same time. This was from 2013, so she's of marriagable age now. It'd be interesting to see what's become of her, and her older sister. Sadly a lot of the marriages on these shows don't last. Although not surprising considering they are teens.
@julianokleby14482 жыл бұрын
@@amandab8433 A marriage as a teen is way more common in the gypsy communities, but they can work. The couple just has to be committed to each other and have the desire to make it work. I was married at 17 in Texas, where the age of consent was 18, so my parents had to sign for me to get married. My husband was 22 at the time, and a college student. That was almost 36 years ago, and our marriage is stronger now than ever! We only knew each other a total of 7 months before marrying. I knew he was the one for me, and he knew I was the one for him. We are dedicated to each other and to God. That's the key. I hope these youngsters are still going strong, and the little sister is only married if she is ready!
@amandab84332 жыл бұрын
@@julianokleby1448 Congratulations on your wonderful marriage. We will celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary, and our 35 anniversary of being together this April and June. I'm aware of the tradition of teen marriages in the Gypsy/Traveler community. Statistically in the US teen marriages are 48% more likely to end in divorce in the first ten years, as apposed to only 10% for those who marry after the age of 25. The numbers are similar in the UK. I've looked into the success rates of the marriages for the teen couples on these shows, and there is a very high rate of divorce in the first five years. Mostly due to spousal abuse. While the shows are entertaining to watch, and we all hope for the best for the couples, unfortunately most don't end well. Also that most of the young women have no education beyond the 8th grade or high school they end up back with their families, which is wonderful that they have that to fall back on.

I have to agree with kitty tonic, though less in a bad way. I think it's perfect for Them, their style and their personalities. Maybe it's not traditionally elegant, and even what some might call tacky, but by God, they're FUN! To be truly "tacky" you have to take yourself seriously and believe you're not tacky--but these families are enjoying their "tackiness" and having a lot of fun with it, loving the bright colors and attention. They're saying, We're over the Top, we're deliberately tacky and we Love it, this is who we are....and that's amazing and wonderful. Edited to also say, I think it's amazing that the bride and others have no issue with All the women being over the top. No one is whinging about how a bridesmaid or cousin or mom wore a dress that tried to compete with the Bride. Everyone is dressed to the 9's and everyone's loving that with no sense of competition or jealousy. Hell, IMO, more weddings should be like this one! LOL

Luckily, my parents have always pushed me and my siblings to spend time being single, getting to know ourselves, working on improving ourselves, and living life before getting into a serious relationship.
