JAMES GUNN ANNOUNCES NEW DCU SLATE | CHAPTER 1: GODS AND MONSTERS

My thoughts on all of them (if you care to read): "Booster Gold" is tailor-made for James Gunn, I think that'll be a fantastic fit! The way he and Safran describe Superman as a man with "kindness in a world that thinks that kindness as old-fashioned" (THR) is so refreshing to hear, and Supergirl being the darker counterpart to Kal-El sounds fascinating. "Lanterns" is so exciting to hear because we've been sorely lacking in GL content, and Paradise Lost seems like something lots of people will get into as well. "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" can lead to SO many fun possibilities because it means that we're finally getting a DCU with THE BAT-FAMILY, something I've always wanted to see in live-action. We've had a few great "Swamp Thing" adaptations but I bet this'll be great too, and possibly lead to JL: Dark with Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman and co. down the line. Creature Commandos and The Authority are teams I know nothing about, but I didn't know anything about the Guardians of the Galaxy either and I think those are some of the best comic books movies ever made (part 2 especially), so I'm open to it. It's the "Waller" show that confuses me the most, because it's the thing that's the most overtly connected to the old "DCEU", making me question it canonicity in the new continuity. Overall though, this is a great slate (assuming they stick to it) and I can't wait to see these characters come to life!

I'm glad you share my confusion about WALLER, it's honestly the only project he announced that I have zero clue with how it'll fit. Peacemaker and Black Adam both featured Emilia Harcourt and Amanda Waller, but they also featured "DCEU" actors like Cavill as Superman, Miller and Flash, and Mamoa as Aquaman. I don't know how that'll work, but everything else sounds cool!

Waller will be the continuation of the characters that were still left at the end of Peacemaker. I am pretty sure this show will just be Peacemaker season 2.

Cavil wasn’t in Peacemaker. Just a silhouette and far off flying shots. Same with wonder woman and Batman. The only 2 that showed their faces and spoke was Aquaman and Flash. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think I'm one of the few people I know who's genuinely excited about The Authority. I used to collect the trades and I look forward to seeing who they cast, and if it's Jenny Sparks or Jenny Quarx/Jenny Quantum. My fave characters were Shen and The Engineer, but Apollo was up there.

Quick summary: it’s a way to make Kara and Powergirl one character. Less restrained, mentally tortured, but not a bad person. Not evil or power hungry, just jaded, like Batman.

Booster Gold being early in in the reboot makes perfect sense if you look at it from his point of view. He's going back in time to become not just a superhero, but the superhero. That's going to be a lot easier if he gets in on the ground floor.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Oddly enough, Waller intrigued me right off the bat considering what happened at the end of Peacemaker season 1 and also that Jermey Carver is involved. I also like the notion of DC Elseworlds and I hope they keep doing one little off shots self contained stories here and there. Kinda like what we get in the animated verse, you have your main movies and then the 1 or 2 'specials' like Long Halloween. I feel like you could play around more beyond just superheroes (like 300 or Road to Perdition or The Kitchen or more Vertigo stuff like Hellblazer) and support more indie films. We got Sandman hanging out there doing its own thing (which it can continue to do so, leave it alone lol). Makes me actually wonder what's going on with the show Pennyworth which I always viewed as an Elseworld. The Batman... I'm so glad at least we're getting A Robin. Damian is an interesting choice to start but I can see and hoping he's more of an intro/gateway character and we meet the rest of the Batfam and get flashbacks. In BTAS, Grayson was already grown up and off to college so it could work with jumping headfirst into Robins. Also excited for Swamp Thing, I loved the DC Universe show so I'm glad he's back.

As much as I dislike Damian Wayne, I do like the idea of a Nightwing operating in Bludhaven already. If this gets me closer to a solo Nightwing film or series, I'm all for it.

He said at the beginning that Blue Beetle is part of this line up and that Shazam 2 leads into the events of Flash and Blue Beetle lives in the world created after Flash and that Flash also leads into Aquaman 2

I truly think DC is waiting to see how 2023 goes with the four movies. Its a difficult task for marketing this year if you tell people, these movies don't matter. More clarification is definitely needed in terms of Waller/team Peacemaker: Is Viola Davis like Judi Dench's' M where she's such a great actress that you leave here after Flash "resets many things" (Gunn's own words)? And Aquaman, are you saying it leads us into Creature Commandos based on a calendar perspective being that Aquaman is Dec '23 and Commandos is the first thing DC is releasing or is Mamoa staying on as Arthur? And lets not forget, Aquaman moved dates (as did Flash) so it could technically take place before the events of the Flash reset. All in all, I cant wait for this. Each project shows purpose and promise which is what I have wanted for a long time. And...Glenn Powell is a good fancast for Booster but how about Billy Magnussen??

I'm not really excited yet but I see some things that could get me excited once I get more info about them. Namely the Green Lantern show, the Paradise Lost show and maybe Waller (though I gotta admit I love Viola but I still do miss heavyset Waller). Okay and now for the obligatory Arrowverse lamentation: I wish we could get Donald Faison as Booster Gold so I can at least pretend that Legends lives on in some way.

My biggest issue is to include videogames as part of this new DCU because if your not a big gamer or if the games are exclusive to one console such as Playstation for me it will make me feel leftout and how important are the video games going to in the story tell.

Shazam, The Flash, Blue Beatle and Aquaman 2 are apart of the new DCU. He said Shazam was always in his own universe anyways, the Flash will be in the old DCU by but the end will be in the new DCU. Blue Beatle and Aquaman 2 will be in the new DCU entirely.

It sounds like they will be keeping some things from the DCEU and not others. They have a new Superman and Batman so things related to Cavill and Batfleck probably won't be brought back, but standalone DCEU projects like Shazam, Blue Beetle, and The Suicide Squad/Peacemaker can continue.

The Authority was basically the Justice League of The Wildstorm Universe. Going to be REALLY interesting to see how they would interact with the classic DC heroes, seeing as they are "a bit" extreme. We could finally get a first LGBT superhero couple in live action as Apollo and Midnighter (their version of Superman and Batman) are a couple.

Just one of my thoughts but, i think the live action and voice actor is so smart but after sitting on it i went "what does this mean for the future of voice actors". And specifically roles that would have usually been given to VA like "supporting characters" that see a lot of success and finances where those actors do not get that. But, i'm trying to see the silver lining even though my skepticism is starting to set in as i sit on my thoughts, like hbo max is not exactly a "thing" after this summer, even hbo max things are going to start to be labeled as max originals.

I'm a little sad that he didn't mention Doom Patrol. Out of all the DC TV shows (on CW, DC Universe and HBO Max), Doom Patrol was by far the best one. I would hate to see the cast and crew of that show cast aside.

The idea about characters crossing over into different mediums isn't all that new. We've already seen how MCU does. I don't see how people are so blown away by that concept thinking it's something new and revolution when MCU had already done in it action. Sure different variant but concept is the same. Same voice actor, same character model, so on.

This years movies are the start of the new slate with the flash but blue beetle and aquaman sound good I'm disappointed with titans and doom patrol series ending this year both great series there are no future plans with these teams as yet. I'm really looking forward to superman legacy with another superman which has big shoes to fill after cavill. The brave and bold film and lanterns I really wanna see ASAP I loved the swamp thing hbo series and thought that series ended too soon. I find that the booster gold will be like peacemaker he is a fun character and will work with a TV show I will look forward to the authority as it will be lots of violence and shocks. Its a shame no titans or justice society have no plans in this timeline. Lastly after this year its a skip year next year until 2025 when these new shows/movies start

The confusing part is how the old projects that are apart of both are affected by the change in timelines. Aquaman 2, Shazam 3, Waller, and Peacemaker Season 2. They are all continuing existing storylines but carrying them from one universe to the other. I'm curious to see what happens!

The only justice league characters staying in the DCU are Ezra Miller and Jason Mamoa. They are removing all the cameos at the end of The Flash... Michael Keaton is not staying, the new super girl being introduced in the flash is just for THAT movie, no Gal Wonder Woman or Superman Henry Cavill. . The “loser” pseudo superhero Booster Gold is just a DC Starlord.. and apparently he’s going to be played by Chris Pratt. Yes I’m serious. I’m not optimistic.
