My choir sang this in my first year of high school, and two weeks before we performed it to the school, a teacher tragically passed away. There wasn't a dry eye in the room. Now, 5 years later, I'm singing it again in my final performance in my senior year. Life's full of tough goodbyes, some sudden and tragic, others long-awaited, but there's always the new beginnings right around the corner.

maybe no one will see this comment. if you do though, brace yourself. we unfortunately had a member of our hs choir die due to suicide end of 2021. he wanted us to sing at his funeral. he was a senior, and this was one of the songs the seniors had already sung their freshman year, so we quickly (re)learned it so that we could perform it. i may have only learned this song in 5ish days, but i will remember it forever and cry everytime i hear it.

We just chose this as our senior farewell song for chorus today and I couldn’t even sing it in class without getting emotional, so I can’t wait to see how I react to performing it at my last chorus concert!!

Emily H. Omg you're gonna ball. I did this my sophomore year for competition, and there was never a time I didn't cry while singing it, the song is powerful in itself. However in the right setting (such as a graduation,) it can't be even more powerful.

Somewhere far from nowhere, I grew both strong and tall Longing to become, but knowing not the path at all. But the footprints of the winter melted to fields of spring; One last embrace before I cross the threshold: To life we sing! O stay your soul and leave my hearts its song! O stay your hand; the journey may be long! And when we part, and sorrow can't be sway'd... Remember when, and let your heart be staid. Omnia sol temerat, Absens in remota. Ama me fideliter, Fidem mean noto. Weave the dance and raise the; grieve no more... Through the strenghth of Orion, find refuge from the shore! Let courage be your oar; let passion be your sail; Wisdom and truth will guide your deep heart's yearning, through all travail! O stay your soul and leave my hearts its song! O stay your hand; the journey may be long! And when we part, and sorrow can't be sway'd... Remember when, and let your heart be staid. Omnia sol temerat, Absens in remota. Ama me fideliter, Fidem mean noto. Omnia sol temperat, And when we part, and sorrow can't be sway'd... Remember when... Remember when... And let your heart be staid... Be staid.

Years after leaving high school and leaving my choir this song is still one of the ones that was most heavily imprinted on my heart. I have this beautiful memory of it being late at night and me being out with a few of my choir mates during a school trip, we decided to stop in this parking lot for no real reason and we just started singing this song together. Next day we sang this with the whole group and made the judges at the competition we were at break into tears, ending with us winning, but above all else what stuck with me the most, when I think it was sung the most beautifully, was that night before when the air was cool and we just let out our souls for no other reason than because it felt right.

We sang this for graduation and our final concert in high school. Such a lovely piece - and I adore how Stroope wrote the tenor part for the last two pages. Seriously, this is one of the few songs where tenors actually get to sing high notes forte, so no falsetto!

This is my choir's farewell song! We sing it every year at the spring concert and the alumni come up on stage to sing it with us! The last year I was there I didn't take choir that last semester but, the words were etched on to my heart. What a beautiful piece that evokes feelings of nostalgia and grandeur! My director loved Z. Randall Stroope and I can see why!
