My interpretation goes like this: It was written couple months after the downfall of the Soviet Union . Probably the euphoria of newgained freedom was already over and the reality of living in a country that lost a (Cold) war kicked in. So the way to deal with such emotions (embarrassment, sorrows, uncertainty) was to "demand" Alaska back. It is only a sarcasm when you realise, that living in an anarchy and sudden poverty, demands like that were the last thing a regular man would be interested about. Lyricss be like Alaska and Siberia are two cost of one river, they share this and that, give us Alaska back :)

I like the march. The last few seconds. If that is the standard march of the russian army I think it is good. I've never seen that before: a kind of emphasis on swinging the hand down which would put the kinda 'centre of attention' of the soldier in his upper body, his chest. At least it does for me when I try it Whereas the normal march I was taught as a soldier put it all in the legs, the feet even, swinging those feet forward - 'pulling 'em up and putting them down' as the british used to say I think. This more 'swaggering' and individually proud I think. The 'british' march making one feel more like a mere puppet amongst puppets just doing identical things, stripped of all individuality. Least that's how it feels to me when I try the both.

Thank you for the video and the lyrics. I have some suggestions for English translation. Zheton - should be translated as a dogtag. You don't put a badge under your t-shirt. I think most of the commentators covered that VDV is not a Mountain to their enemies but a nightmare/disaster. I also think that "...take it on your chest" is wrong. I believe it's a figurative expression. "take it to your heart/soul" or even better "embrace it". Word for uniform is hard to translate with correct connotation. It's slang for a specific half-woolen field uniform of VDV. Pолушерстянной (ПШ)/(P Sh) means half-woolen. Abbreviations "P" and "Sh" led to the slang пэжухой. So, it's not just a uniform, but a special VDV uniform.

С чего вы взяли что в этом подразделение должны быть большие потери? В основном бои ведут танковые и мотострелковые батальоны, еденственное куда скинули десант это под Гостомель и насколько знаю украинцы их не смогли выбить от туда, они дождались подхода русских... и насколько я знаю потери России не слишком большие, пересмотрев видео за эти дни могу предпологать о 200-300 убитыми порядка 1500 раненых и до 60 пленных это притом что численность ВСУ 250тыс человек и наступает на них армия гдето в 80 тыс России и еще 60тыс республик...
