Not sure how you did that, even though I watched. I can guarantee I would have broken it into many pieces and had an onscreen tantrum and meltdown. Talent there.

It does take a little experience to hollow with confidence, but it's really not as hard as it at first seems. Mostly it's just intimidating to cut up a sculpture you've been working on for, if you're a beginner, probably a couple of weeks.

Did you put a coil of clay on the inside seems as well? Or just smooth it over. I cannot tell by the statement, "do the same on the inside", if you were referring to the last step, or the whole slip/ join/ coil/ smooth process.
