P mode, exposure comp on -1 and flash exposure comp to +1 will make your subject jump out of the picture. Slow shutterspeed + second curtain, and add a colored gel to your flash (adjust whitebalance) and you are on fire!
@cooloox2 жыл бұрын
It can look fake though. Old school fill-flash balances fill and ambient to look natural. If done correctly, many people can't tell flash was used, but would see the difference if placed next to the same shot without flash. The modern trend seems to be 'let's make it obvious that flash was used' and make it look unnatural. As though there was a spotlight in the middle of a field lighting up the subject.
@wyrmmm2 жыл бұрын
@@cooloox Or that’s just one way of many to make the photo your own. Some photos you may want it to look natural, but than you have some you want to subject to jump at you. Even still someone that doesn’t know photography still wouldn’t know what was going on. All they will see is a fantastic shot. Just have fun and do whatever.

Hi Gavin, you mentioned wedding photography (~ 13:35) - I do not shoot weddings but would you shoot differently today, with you'r versatility and practical experiance, would you shoot weddings differently? say with a couple of OCF and assistanses? I think some costumers can appreciate better quality than quantity. ...thinking about it now - OCF can stand for both: On/Off Camera Flash.

Still use my Stofen filter, works a treat when travelling light. Sophie's make up choice makes a difference to the images too, not too shiny or orange looking. Great video again.

Not sure if anyone ask this already… How do you go about using the meter when using multiple lights. I normally do 3-4 light set ups and being curious about using a light meter to take some of the guessing away.

I've noticed in many of your videos that you mention you are using your flash sync speed of 1/250 sec. Wouldn't it be more accurate to say you are using your maximum flash synch speed of 1/250 sec.? I know that is the maximum flash synch speed for my camera before going into High-Speed Synch.

So not only do we both have transmitters held together with tape, both forget to turn on the lights before setting up but I caught that you announce out loud where you put things (flash meter) to help you remember or for someone else to tell you if that fails. Had to laugh because I noticed it's what I do just the other day.
