Thank you so much for teaching us Old Dogs New Tricks with the new Gadgets. I purchased a used Eva2 and got the Blue Chip. This really is an amazing tool. You can literally balance or locate vibration dampening any rotational device. Thank you for your clarity, Truly you are a gifted teacher.

I need to buy one of these Eva2 units. Now, the question becomes, can you use *any* NVH meter? I am trying to see if I could use one of the cheaper units to trigger the timing light. I would guess the Eva2 has a voltage output at which the threshold (ie any signal over 4) will then send a pulse that can be read by the timing light. I am pretty resourceful so either way I will figure it out however if I can get a headstart that would be great. :)

Did you notice any differences putting weights at the front if the shaft vs the rear? It is common to find a weight at each location of different grams and different positions. And when one is changed, does that affect the other? Or can this hose clamp method be done properly on one end of the shaft at a time and provide an overall benefit?

Very interesting and informative video. I will study this video over and over and learn how to do it myself. It will be much more cost effective than sending the propeller to have it balance by for example Westport Machine Works. Until now I had been considering the Heat Straightening and balancing job. I just need to know where to buy the analyzer and the approximate cost. The timing light I have. Thanks.

Are the hose clamps considered a permanent fix or just for balancing? Would welded weights be attached after the balancing process? I would think on a work/ farm truck that drives over tall weeds and grass and snow banks that the clamps would get fouled up or get knocked off.

Thank you for your professional efforts, in order to share this. It will be so much for me to know, if this method is appropriate for balancing aircrafts propeller also... Thank you.

i had a driveshaft shortened that i didn't notice any shake from before. now it shakes around 60-75 mph or so roughly staring at 2000 driveshaft rpm. i checked for run out on the cut side but there was almost none. i bought one of these tools and put weight were the strobe said. it says it reduced the shake but feels exactly the same on a test drive. am i missing something?
@WeberAuto6 жыл бұрын
Yes, the u-joint working angles must be equal. The u-joint caps must line up with each other within 3 degrees. Imbalance could also be an issue.
@AndyFromm6 жыл бұрын
@@WeberAuto I'll check it again but i think im within 2 degrees

@@WeberAuto I took off the driveshaft. angles are about 0.3 degrees off with my digital angle finder. drove the vehicle without the rear driveshaft using the front axle (4x4) and had no shake.

If it has a slip yoke at the transmission, excessive up and down play (vertically) can cause runout while driving. There is zero endplay on a new vehicle. The more play there is, the more the driveshaft will whip while rotating . I have seen this cause a vibration many times.
@AndyFromm6 жыл бұрын
@@WeberAuto the slip is part of the driveshaft, it has bolt on flanges on both ends

Hi, I have two questions and I will be very grateful if you help me. When I set the EVA on low range, using the Yes/No button as you instruct me, it goes back to the high range. Is there anything I can do to fix the issue? Can I use the high range to measure vibration? Thank you so much.

I do not know why yours is doing that. As shown in the video, you pick the range that matches the actual rotational speed of your driveshaft.

i just changed out the u. joints will that effect the drive shaft and start vibrating ??
@WeberAuto8 жыл бұрын
+Alonzo Scurlock Hi, yes, changing u-joints can cause vibrations for several reasons. I am about to release a series of videos on u-joint service that might be helpful to you. Subscribe to my channel kzbin.info for notification of the video releases. The most common error in changing u-joints is not installing the driveshaft back in the original position verses the pinion flange. You should always mark the pinion flange verses the driveshaft tube/flange and put it back exactly in the same position. If you do not do this, you can cause excessive driveshaft runout which can cause a vibration. There are many other reasons for a vibration after changing a u-joint. Watch for my new videos here in the next week. Best wishes.
@johnycash82919 жыл бұрын
I think tires should have taken off. Sensor may pick up vibration from tires too.
@WeberAuto9 жыл бұрын
Johny Cash Hi, I understand your thinking here, but the tires are spinning 3.42 times slower than the driveshaft. Even if the tires were creating a vibration, the frequency of a tire vibration is too slow to affect the EVA's interpretation of the accelerometer's reading of driveshaft speed related vibrations. In other words, it won't affect the driveshaft balancing procedure. Thank you for watching!
@johnycash82919 жыл бұрын
WeberAuto That's right. You got a point there.

7/18/20181. What would inform me that my 98 Mustang GT's driveshaft needs to be balanced?2. Please, at the start of each video, state the date; just say "Today is 7/18/2018" and be sure to state the year.3. Does each car manufacturer balance the driveshaft on each car before delivering to a dealer?
@WeberAuto6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. 1. The date each video was posted is listed below each video just above the video description. 2. A driveshaft needing balancing will produce a first order driveshaft speed related vibration (See www.vibratesoftware.com). If you have eliminated excessive driveshaft runout, then balancing is an option. 3.Each driveshaft is balanced, bit not on the car. Best wishes.

Maybe a dumb questions will this procedure be the same on all wheel drv where my front shaft was recently replaced and something is vibrating. Also why are there support jacks under the axles?
@WeberAuto9 жыл бұрын
+Chris W. Rohlfs Hi, great questions! Yes, it would be the same for a front driveshaft. The axles are on jack stands so that the suspension system is sitting loaded at the correct height. If the suspension is allowed to sag, it could cause a 2nd order driveshaft vibration (2 shakes per revolution) that could affect the accuracy of the balancing procedure.

If you have competent driveshaft shop anywhere near you, you would be way ahead of the game to just remove and have someone do it for you as far as I'm concerned (being as I build driveshafts for a living). This voo doo magic might be cool if you didn't have anyone nearby to do the job, but what a bunch of monkeying around. And it requires 2 people. And you have to stand under a running car with the driveshaft going a gazillion RPM. And putting hose clamps on your driveshaft, unless it's a total emergency bush fix, is fucking mickey mouse.
@WeberAuto6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. Balancing the driveshaft at a driveline shop will not compensate for an imbalance in the pinion companion flange, pinion gear or the transmission/transfer case output shaft/flange. System balancing will.
