As Father knows, my son Andrew did a simple wedding, small and a small celebration at the house. It was wonderful.

Father McKenna and Kevin-this is EXCELLENT. My wife and I had a short engagement and a small wedding in Our Lady of the Rosary chapel and it was everything more that what we could of hoped for. We had to extend the courtship due to military service obligations, but as soon as I returned from duty we wasted no time. I have friends from the military who’ve been in “relationships” 6, 8, 10 years. I’ve had friends engaged-ENGAGED for 8 years! Our modern society has completely lost its mind when it comes to whatever is being defined as “marriage,” if that’s even a thing anymore in their eyes. My wife and I loved this video and we can’t wait for more like it. Also, a huge shout out to Father McKenna from his lifelong friend, Todd. Three Hail Marys for you and your priesthood.

Some nice points made. I agree that a lot of today's modern philosophies are incorrect. Weddings should not cost $25,000 + . You say the word " wedding" and all the prices go up. A venue shouldn't cost someone 10k... That being said, I would also HIGHLY caution pushing young catholics to marry quickly. Young adults now are not as wise as their predicessors, and especially with a "mixed" marriage its so important to know the other side well. It should be drilled into kids that dating is for marriage, and not just a status thing. And if you aren't ready (or very close to it) financially, or emotionally, you shouldn't be dating... But two emotionally and financially stable and morally aligned Catholics- 6 months is probably great! Every couple will be different. It take 6 YEARS to become a priest, sister or brother.

As people I know have said, "I feel as if I have been rushed into my marriage by the priest and by my wife. I didn't know what I was getting into." And as one's wife has said, "I'm sorry for rushing you into marriage."

The ring! So much emphasis on having to have a big “rock” and pretty ring in order to be engaged! It’s not all about the ring and if you have to go into debt to buy a ring… there’s a problem on both sides.

It's not about "getting to know" it's about recognizing that you can, in fact, live with the person. When marriage is properly understood, you approach the "6 months" with more seriousness than currently occurs.

I knew my fiancée for 1 month, starting dating for 3 months, and now I'm going to be engaged for 3 months. When you know you know. It's not a game to play around. Stay focused, and you will figure things out very quickly
