How many of the Leafs Core 4 do you guys want gone? Am not sure if you want 1) Mitch, or 2) JT and Mitch gone? As Matthews is seen as a playoff disappointment at centre - what do you think about the suggestion to move Matthews over to wing, where elite snipers like OV thrive? Matthews generates (as low as 50% lesser) few assists compared only to the top current NHL assist leaders. He is too easy to shut down at centre in the playoffs. 😀 That is unless 69 goals and another first round exit is ok in Toronto. 😀

Mitch Marner if he loves living and playing in Toronto so much must change his hockey style in that he has to go into the dirty areas of the ice to battle for the puck like Brendan Gallagher in his younger days. Give a hit and take a hit! If blood is spilt, just wipe it off. What would be the results if Matthews plays LW and Marner plays C?

I disagree about Marner. Tell me that GMs won't line up to take a 95pt player that they only have to pay $750. The cap hit would be an issue for many teams but that's also a PLUS for some teams.

Toronto needs to do a quick rebuild. You fill the holes with prospects to see what you have in the system. How many guys have we gave up on. Hyman, Verhaeghe, Moore, Marchment , Bunting etc. For nothing. Cap problems go away next year. Only sign guys who will be here for a couple of years. If Marner does not want to sign an extension and we will get nothing in return, could both sides not agree to cancel his contract and he goes UFA July 1. This would give both sides what they want and we can move forward. Marner would be better off to stay on a discount to get 8 years. Lets say 8.9 m. Add in bonuses for team success. 2nd, 3rd and cup round win bonuses. He would be a hero not a guy who just wants money. JT signs a very cheap extension. Now Tre knows how much cap room he has to fill the holes and build a team.

Brad Treliving should tell Marner's camp the winger will not be getting an extension but also that Marner may very well enjoy playing for another NHL team where he won't be getting as much scrutiny from local media as he has with the Leafs for inconsistent playoff performances.

For Leaf Followers and Bruins Fans Playoff hopes - if Mitch gets an extension ($13 Million per year) that is definitely the best option. The good thing for Leafs Fans is that Marner is a regular season success. So likely the Leafs continue to make the playoffs. Making the playoffs and losing in the First Round (7 out of every 8 years with zero playoff runs) is kinda fun and interesting for all fans to watch. 😀 So if Mitch gets extended - isn’t that what we should all continue to expect. At least, Mitch enjoys being treated like a God in Toronto.

Marner being traded after july 1st makes a lot of sense. Sign and trade. His salary bonus is paid by the leafs... At this point the Leafs would get a massive haul for marner. if it's a sign and trade with a team like Utah.. You're getting 6th overall + Crouse + Durzi... Or perhaps even something like 6th overall + Logan Cooley... that's the type of return you need for someone as good as Marner.

Woll would be the 1B and a 1A would be needed and they can split games 50/50. A Jones like 3rd maybe younger Matt Murray, but his conditioning numbers with the Marlies didn't look that great and Hildebeast would be depth. I wouldn't put Woll as the 1A until he can get past getting injured every 15 games.

Is there any possibility of them moving Nylander instead? (I love Nylander btw). It just seems between the two, he's perceived to be the better playoff performer, and he actually has the personality that doesn't make it seem like he's married to any situation. Having Marner around to guarantee we make the playoffs every year has a ton of value in it. Then next year with the 3rd liner JT re-signing for 3rd liner dollars, maybe we can be fighting for a second round play off spot again!

That's an interesting take. But also shows how unpredictable things are. Stamkos has always been significantly better than JT. Yet at the same time his aged related decline has also been a lot slower than JT's. Just think if Stammer was a 100 slowly dropping down to say an 85. Sure as hell better than JT who was basically 85 to a 60 and soon to be 0. lol what a joke that signing was.

Nothing will change with the current pay structure. They all should be paid 700k/season, and they get bonus money if they go rounds. That way there is an incentive. Otherwise you will have the same group of under performing snowflakes.

I’m so tired of hearing people say that Marner is the problem. If the Leafs want a cup he’s a big part of the solution. Management has NEVER given these guys a proper QB from the point. Leafs have had the 2nd best goaltender in every single playoff series in the last decade. KEEP Marner, Matthews and Nylander and build around them. Year after year for your best chance at a cup. Use JTs money to bring in a stud QB and sign a goalie who can steal games in the playoffs. Cap is going up. Trade Marner and replace him with ANY of the players available and they are a worse team.

Hockey fans can cheer for whatever teams for which they want to cheer. I have chosen to cheer for the Oilers as: - they are a non-Habs Canadian NHL team - the Habs have won more post-1967 Cups than any of the remaining Canadian NHL teams I have grown so tired of how unserious so many Leaf players have taken their jobs that as much as possible from preseason play to the end of the NHL regular season I watch as many games as possible that feature non-Leafs' Canadian teams not playing the Leafs. This NHL season I stayed up late to watch so many games played by any of the Canucks, Flames, Oilers and Winnipeg Jets although also watched plenty of games the Senators had played. Of those expansion Canadian teams the Canucks, Oilers and Jets all qualified for playoff action. This off-season Brad Treliving needs to come closer the copying the approach that his Canucks' counterpart (Patrik Allvin) from last offseason to last March took. These Leafs after all need more of those types of bulky defensemen such has Nikita Zadorov and Chris Tanev but for reasonable per-season cap hits. John Klingberg was not a good puck-moving defenseman.
