Stripped bare, unburdened by assumptions, and laid before the world to see, Monk Monté unveils a release and accompanying video, that shares the spiritual journey he has taken from his first breath of life to this very moment in time. The story follows the evolution from a young boy starting in the Pyramids of Mother Africa, making his way full circle back to the Trinity Hills of his current home in Trinidad & Tobago, paying respect to all the magical steps along the way.
The evolution of self is personified through the characters in the video, two of which are played by Machel's very own son and father.
The moving number, “On My Way”, is a soulful tale and tribute to the land and musical culture, Machel was predestined to arise from and grow within.
Powerful lyrics intertwined with riveting drums and emotional visuals, paint a poignant picture of heritage alongside an innate connection to the birthplace of Soca.
Springing from this music, produced by Starblu and co-written by Tishon Singh & Machel Montano, is that intangible warmth, and effervescent joy these islands are well known for.
This is a track which will touch hearts and lead souls to sing in euphoric frenzy, as they celebrate the blessing of just being alive right here and right now.

From what I gather this is not exactly meant for Carnival, nor as a means to bring attention to Trinidad and it's culture essentially. Rather it seems as a symbolism of his journey. We all essentially are children of Africa, this is his acknowledgment of his roots, of our roots, of Carnival's roots. However the music, Soca, he "followed", as if saying he was meant to be born in Trinidad & Tobago... and he "was born in the perfect place" because of his love for our culture and for Soca. The news audio of violence around the world in the beginning of the video also in a way symbolizes the strife the rest of the world faces, while here in Trinidad (while no doubt we have a lot of issues) we have Soca and that "feeling" that Soca brings. There's nothing like it. I've always wondered when Soca would evolve beyond jump and wine, this is the step Machel has taken in that direction. This is, in essence, not a Carnival Soca song... this goes further than that, this is music.

I love love love love love the lyrics to this song. Absolutely beautiful. our culture deserves this. But there is no representation of our culture here. If I stumbled across this knowing nothing about Machel Montano or Soca, I'd be under the impression Soca is some how affiliated with Egyptian/Middle Eastern culture and is a part of them. Again LOVE the lyrics, evokes all types of feelings. But it's hard when the song says "I was born on the greatest place on earth" but theres no part of that place represented here... The vision in this video and the lyrics alone tell a story..from what I was told this may by Machel's last year for competition on the grand stage..there was an interview with him a few months back with his mother by his side and he let everyone know..I didn't see it personally.. But I hope this is not the last year for him..he took soca and culture to another level here..I know all of you would agree.
