Beginners often ask for an "easy" first quilt and I think this one is IT!!! With the precut kits in a colorway that is already coordinated, they almost can't go wrong. I'm amazed at Matt's wonderful eye for color.

I made a log cabin quilt many years ago and it is still in mint condition. I tried to make it similar to your steps but mine took much longer because i didnt turn my first two small blocks in the right direction when I started chain stitching the blocks. Thank you for that tip on turning the first two blocks the right direction today. I made all of my blocks into a log cabin block. I didnt have the focus fabric to separate the logs. I think I will make your quilt on the diagonal and watch the tutorial as I go. Thank you for your exceptional teaching. It is very helpful. You probably wont believe this. I have been quilting for over 50 years and I still love learning a new way to accomplish my goal. Buying one of Matt's cut package is the way to go. Thank you. Jodie

Now I understand why my on-point projects in the past were always wonky.. Truly appreciate all the little hints & tricks you drop in here & there. So helpful. Like how to keep the strips lined up do the blocks actualy come out square every time. I just sewed up 64 log cabin blicks in 2 days and evedy single one is perfectly square & the correct size. Thank you, Matt and Donna, for this lovely tutorial!! I agree so much with what Mona Rawles said 2 years ago--Matt is such a gifted cutter of fabric and chooser of colours and you are an awesome quilter and teacher. I'm a fairly experienced sewer, but I learn something new from every video! I love the on-point log cabin, and love the idea of the kits but I have a collection of purples with a specific pink & purple floral that I've bought for my step-daughter because she really loved that floral print. I told her that if she'd give me a grandchild I'd make her a quilt. Well, she did give us a grandson with great difficulty (we was born 16 weeks premature at 1.5 lbs.) He just turned 2 years old and is thriving but I still haven't made her quilt!! Is there a pattern available for this design other than those in the kits? My creative juices are flowing and I can't wait to start cutting strips.
