Shuddhi process is considered by some people as a necessity but mostly people who convert learn some basics of Hinduism like cycle of karma, dharma and history of Hindu gods. Most importantly they identify themselves as Hindus when asked what religion they belong to. They can visit a temple so a priest can give advice. Will smith has been to Haridwar.
