Me as well, and although I preferred my 'age' when I was working, I'm still thankful I can get up when I feel like doing so (usually 5 Am, because I went to bed early) and I can go for a drive with my camera, and look for unique compositions, to add to the many I already have!

I’ve raised a discussion of this with my senior seminar students (I teach video/electronic media)…today’s college students are very entrepreneurial…so I caution them about expectations. Any job comes with stress and being a creator will have many stresses. I don't know how people do it because when I started on my path (to fund my nonprofit, not even to feed my family) I actually almost lost my passion for photography and did burnout with the cumulative stress of constantly delivering. I've just started watching your videos again after a long hiatus. The reason I stopped watching for a while was because I do one type of photography - real estate and haven't had a need to watch any camera/lens reviews. Just upgraded to the Canon R6. I started watching again because a friend of my daughter's asked if I would photograph her wedding which brings me back to KZbin tutorials. I've always enjoyed your videos, Tony & Chelsea, so am reviewing some of your photography tips. (Note: The bride is very clear that I have never shot a wedding and my photographic expertise is for real estate - a stationary subject. I did do my daughter's engagement photos and pregnancy photos for one of her friends - these turned out pretty well.)

We have an Etsy page where we are getting drilled with fees to the point where a lot of orders were not fulfilled. There are always drawbacks when it comes to selling certain items and this industry is no different. One has to realize the limitations of what you can deliver and make enough to stay afloat without burning out. It is hard to be entrepeneurial without having some sort of burnout. One gets confy with a good paying job that you forget how hard it is for some people to make half of what you make. Dont give up though, there are better things coming and always express yourself so that everyone is aware of whats going on, communication is key.

I was born in 1960. My dad gave me a Canon F-1 in 1972. I started a pet portrait business in High School and made a lot of money. I wanted a photography career, but I did not know how to do it. I was also a science and engineering wiz so I worked hard and earned a doctorate, but I always wondered about being in photography. At 45 I became the CEO of one of the largest photography companies in the US with 10K employees. The challenge was to make portrait photography fun and profitable. I did that job for 8 years and loved it, but it made photography a grind. Since then, I shoot mainly wildlife and landscape photography where I can be away from people and enjoy the outdoors. I have changed up my career every 8-10 years. No one should be doing the same thing forever.

I am from Australia, and have had my own music videos that I have personally produced and streaming on KZbin, and don't get anything from them. I am not monetised with them because of some changes that KZbin made years ago. They put ads onto my content, but don't pay me a cent. This is against Australian laws and they are very likely to get into BIG trouble with the Australian regulator very soon, just like Google and Facebook did, when they flaunted Australian media laws.

She looked very sad when she turned to me and said something the the effect: Keep it a hobby, once you start to do it for a living it is not longer so much fun. On a separate note: Thank you for pulling back the curtain on KZbin producers. Professionals, particularly presentation professionals, often hide the sausage making from their clients. Everyone benefits by know what goes on in the thousands of KZbin workshops out there.

I have recently seen many KZbinrs talk about quitting/leaving or cutting back on content production and claiming various reasons. After 27 years as a sworn law enforcement official, I retired to become a beach bum. When I began creative writing three years into being a bum, I wrote nearly three hundred blog posts during my first year. My writing fell off when I traveled outside Southwest Florida during the summer. I attempted to video blog my travels only to discover that pre and post-production video blogs took time, and it became a job. In my previous career, I worked steadily for well over a quarter of my life without the option nor consideration to quit or reduce my responsibilities. So, like many KZbinrs, the individual must find their medium to satisfy their creative content of something they love. Tony and Chelsea, thanks for the video and the inspiration to become a photographer.

I agree with much of what you all are saying. Anytime you do something for money, it is a job. Good news is I do KZbin videos for fun and to share nature photography. I worked at a corporate job for 36 years, was totally stressed out and beyond burned out. It was impacting my health and my relationships. I retired. I don't plan to turn YT into another job. One thing about some of the bigger channels stepping back, it does leave a little more oxygen in the room for smaller creators.

Your journey sounds like mine! Retired federal manager, now a nature photographer and KZbinr. I'm fortunate to not need KZbin money thanks to a generous pension. On a serious note I have been watching you guys for about 8 years. Your videos were and have always been important to my photography growth. I consider your channel as a staple. You are right though in the past (I am older than both you) it was a privilege to take a great image. Now with phones having “good enough” images you really have to be a great photographer to make money. Good enough with the phone camera is good enough for most. I wish there would be as much development in the DSLR innovations to keep me at a greater distance from phone images which in return would help keep the value of my images up with the cost of shooting DSLR. People are bombard with pictures now so it’s just not as big a deal as in the past. Needs to be some major breakthroughs in the DSLR market to set us set us photographers apart.

I've brought up on other channels the fact that money is never mentioned on the YT bail videos. The other thing I have noticed is the "fame bubble" is the same regardless of what format the fame was acquired in. Hollywood actors, corporate media peronalities, sports stars, social media creators/influencers, they all develop a disconnect with how life operates beyond their peer bubble. What is odd is I haven't noticed the public giving social media peronalities the same amount of addoration as they do to others who's fame came from somewhere outside social platforms. Then again, I don't know for sure because I've never been one to admire fame. What I do know and do admire is neither of you seem to have fallen into the bubble. That is a rare trait that so few "famous" people have.

I've been subscribed and enjoying all you present. So that's my moment of good on "ya". Burn-out is real depression is real. I spent 20 plus years running the Community College of Denver Engineering Graphics program (Computer Aided Design/Drafting), advising students, building curriculum, breaking in new Deans and Presidents, being father and therapist to a high percentage of those students that according to state education requirement you have to make sure they complete and get employment. Also let's not talk about having to find enough students each semester to keep the program going! I didn't really know how much it was killing me, it took a therapist to give me a card saying "let go or be dragged". I really like what you both do, your slowly helping me be the photographer I'm hoping to be. But ultimately be true to yourself, and be well.

You both do a great job on YT and deserve a big medal for determination. You both are two beautiful people with compassion for photograpy and I hope you will continue here. Much love from The Netherlands

A few select channels have mentored me through my formative years in photo/video. This being one of them. Tony you're the greatest silver fox geeky pro. Chelsea, you're never not beautiful and funny and the life and soul of the channel. Thanks for the journey. Even the days when you shot everything at Toneh 1.2 were fun 😅 When you do eventually stop, be sure to do a 'Why I Quit' video. Most of us will care. Ignore the haters.

Truly enjoy your videos and information. Will always follow as long as the two of you are around. I like the way you present the information and never talk down to your viewers. Keep the faith and keep true to yourselves.

Pretty cool that you can be vulnerable knowing about all the vipers waiting to strike. Please keep up the good work. I enjoy your channel.

Nice vid. Post production is hard for a one person show and I definitely get the burnout. Well done as usual. Chelsea providing genuine commentary with excellent support by Tony. The cuts to Chelsea only would be better if she were looking directly at the camera. Just me though. :) No hate here.

Thanks for the honest commentary. I spent a good amount of time developing a sizeable channel that was monetized and growiing until after a couple of years a troll and friends got me three community strikeouts and I was taken out of monetization immediately with no recourse (but YT still ran ads on my content and earned revenue themselves)...I think the business on YT is potentially fragile, lacks being a true legacy and now they run long ads I hardly watch it anymore. Building well now on Mr Musk's portal...

It's no different than a sitcom ending. You make the money you need, you end the show. But much more common is, "yeah there's no money on this platform."

I so prefer to see in video sponsorship "ads" as opposed to the horrid google ad sense ads that always interrupt at the worst possible times. It's also nice when the creators really use and like the products they sponsor. I love the channel you guys have created!

You guys are my inspiration. I agree with you and your position on having a life and work. I for one have a hard time believing you guys have grown daughter and are maturing as you are. You guys look to be much younger. You have a great combination Chelsea art direction and Tony with the technical side. You are a great team and I am more impressed now knowing you are real people.
