You want 'haunting'? Either she's too cool for most listeners, or they didn't promote her enough, but Ricki Lee Jones is a huge, possibly overlooked talent......haunting as I listen..shivers down my back as the years go by.............
@queenofyeay7 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I was around when Ricki Lee Jones made enough of a splash with her debut album that Saturday Night Live brought her on as musical guest only a month after the album was released. Which then created a HUGE sensation. Ricki had two songs nominated for Grammies off that album (four nominations total) and she won for Best New Artist... Ricki Lee Jones was an instant classic. Unfortunately I was into other music at the time and so, incredibly I had never heard this song until the end of the second episode of the TV show HOUSE. Totally blew me away and still does but that was only a few years ago. Truly, she was as bright as a firework when she arrived on the scene... it seems like she became a niche artist. "...where as you watch the hours snow" Man, was she ever an old soul at a young age. Just the title of the song makes me get all nostalgic. AND she was not even 25 when she debuted!

I remember where I was when I first heard Rickie. A rainy afternoon in Edinburgh at my cousin's flat. Smoking hash. I was 16. I found a part of my soul, a part only she can bring to life. I'm old now. My children are grown. I've never loved her more. Thank you, dearest one, for helping me discover myself. May you be blessed all the days of your life.

@@annieroydube It is easy to wax poetic about an old and trusted travelling companion. Enjoy your journey, dear one. "Whether I(you) shall turn out to be the hero of my(your) own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show." So begins Dicken's David Copperfield. Take your time, you will grow old quickly ~ you will grow old with great peace if you hold life with an open hand and seek to love rather than be loved. And if you find some one to give your life for, you will not have lived in vain. If you find many to give your life for, you will be truly blessed. In times of want, open your door to the hungry and share with them what you have; do not squirrel your earthly treasures away to collect dust. Life is for living and true love never tires of service. Read Dickens and Anne of Green Gables, listen to Vivaldi and RLJ and *enjoy* 🌈🙏🏻 Bless you, Annie Monik Isabelle! 💖

I first heard this in the same circumstances in a flat in Glasgow. Her debut album is in my top five best ever albums. I'm into all music from classical, trad, Ragtime, country, gospel, Beatles the list goes on..... But Rickie always speaks to my soul. 🎼🎶🎵🎶🎺

i get the feeling of when i was young and had a dear friend who i admired and loved deeply but she didn't get to finish growing up and for over 40 years she has lived in my heart and i , among others, feel her presence and she is still sweet, funny, happy. just good. i imagine the good things she could and would have done, the lost potential in her. she has come to visit me in dreams so many times i lost count years ago. and i have carried her last school photo with me , carefully laminated all these years. and a bigger copy stands on the bookshelf with my closest family and friends. now i am back to where i lived when we were friends in this world. and the years go by and before too many more i will join her. a powerful and pure soul who left an influence on me to always do good, and i do so in her name . she has been a big part of my life. my special friend. and my little box of ashes will one day be buried by her, with our photos. i suppose our souls belong together and have been through time.

@@devashishsharma3529 i could not bring myself to go to the funeral it hurt so much. a couple of years later i did finally go to the cemetery and found there was no marker. i was shocked. i fell to my knees and asked HOW? WHY? then it hit me. her family could not bring themselves to putting one there. it was admitting she was dead. i said this will not stand. i got up and went to a monument company and had one made. paid cash and told the owner i wanted no names on the receipt and records. i wanted no credit or blame. i did it for her. it was between me, Rita and God. i went out the next day and buried half of a rock in the soft dirt. i kept the other half and still have it. i never told anyone. not my family or her family or anyone. it was above top secret. almost 40 years later i was checking on her parents, found they were recently deceased also. i was talking to her baby sister and i finally confessed. she informed me they knew. the sisters got old enough to drive they went to the cemetery and found it. "how did you know?" "because you were the only one who ever did anything for Rita." almost 40 years and they knew for over 30!! "why didn't anybody say anything?" "they knew you did it just because you loved each other. and it was a big relief to them. they figured you didn't want anything or you would have told them." so when i got my life insurance and burial policy i met her great niece who was 3 months old. i introduced myself , her eyes opened wide and that little face got a big wide smile and she started laughing and bouncing, squeezing my finger. she was delighted to meet me. i made Rita's sister the beneficiary, with the conditions that the baby would have the money in a savings account for her and my box of ashes would be buried with Rita. they said it was fine. i belong there.

It's a profoundly beautiful song. I agree, Rickie Lee Jones is sublime; one of the finest singer-songwriters we have seen, in my opinion. And it's true, she has been strangely overlooked and underappreciated. But not by me. Every track on the record where she is wearing a beret and smoking a cigarette on the cover is phenomenal. Incredible album. There's nobody else like her. Just listen to her cover of ''Don't Walk Away Renee'' for a heartbreaking interpretation of the Left Bank's brilliant 60's ballad.
@kearl34904 жыл бұрын
Her rendition of "My Funny Valentine", is beyond words. She's as ephemeral as she is a stiletto of steel through the heart. Walk away, Renee is piercingly sweet and is always accompanied by tears.

Interesting note: I put on my headphones so I could hear Ricki. My neighbor plays three pieces incessantly, club tunes..electronic beats..made on a computer. It is BORING after the third time I hear these dance pieces. I was annoyed by his music until I realized he never plays anything else. Just those three pieces. Now I feel differently about him, actually I am sorry for him, I hope he finds something more in his life...see this is the kind of turn around in someone's thinking that music can inspire. Thanks Hon 8-)

The most as you'll ever go Is back where you used to know If grown-ups could laugh this slow Where as you watch the hour snow Years may go by So hold on to your special friend Here, you'll need something to keep her in: "Now you stay inside this foolish grin" Though any day your secrets end Then again Years may go by You saved your own special friend 'Cause here you need something to hide her in And you stay inside that foolish grin When everyday now secrets end Oh and then again Years may go by
