I want Nick Afoa to come across the pond to Broadway. I’d pay serious money to see him live in the role of Simba 😍

Im starting to have a crush on him and its weird but he really looks so humble and cute and he brings out alot of emotion to this performance. Great job and I wish he could come here in the Philippines to perform.

Karrie Langit, apparently while auditioning for this role, he thought of his three-year-old son who was back at his home in New Zealand- he thought of his son’s feelings as Dad went away to play Simba on stage. He channels those emotions into the song, I think.

When I saw The Lion King on the week of 9/11 in 2001, I cried because I saw myself in Simba singing this song, because like him, my father died when I was a teenager. 😪🙏🏼

OMG I can actually feel Simba's helplessness on this song! What a performance!! Only felt like that before with Jason Raize's video...

I have watched The Lion King 3 times, the last one two moths ago in New Zealand and I believe Nick Afoa is the best Simba ever... Great performance 👏👏👏

I have been repeatedly listening with this song the whole day and it keeps playing all over and over again inside my head. I have seen so many guys sung this song but Nick Afoa owns this song. He has given this song with his own style and made the song more dramatic and so emotional.

Literally watched this in theatre yesterday had the pleasure of sitting on the 3rd row away from the stage - the whole cast was amazing but Nicholas Afoa as simba stood out the most

I think both of them is equally great in a two different ways, if that makes sense... but Jason had this look on his face in some of his performances that makes you feel like the song was made for him.
@AericLee234 жыл бұрын
Victoria Mann Jason looked like what Simba would look as a human, I guess. 😂. I felt that way about all of the original performers of the Broadway show. They all looked the part, besides playing them well.

I appreciate Nick Afoa, but he's too often flat here.
@boomaha3255 жыл бұрын
"Father I can't find a waaaaaaaaay." He briefly fluctuates flat during "waaaaaaaay" and he should never do that. That note needs to be held more firmly. The ensuing, "You promised you'd be there!" has a sharp "there". The following "Whenever I needed you" has a flat "you". The following, "you're not anywhere" has a flat "where". The ensuing "I'm trying to hold on" has a sharp "on". His first "the sun will rise" briefly drifts flat. The following "I know" and "clouds must clear" both contain very brief flat notes. The tail end of "I hear your voice deep insiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide" also contains an unfortunate flat fluctuation. "And that the clouds must clear" is just a total mess, in my estimation. "The sun, the sun will rise" also has a brief flat note at the end of "rise." You may have noticed that Afoa doesn't like to hold end notes. He breathlessly cuts them short. That's a smart move for a singer that doesn't have confidence in his voice to sustain notes.

@@boomaha325 it's called melisma, and in the post Mariah world, singers have been singing like that since childhood. He's trying his best to flatten his notes for the stage but that R&B influence is coming through. I like it. I'd sing it that way too if I were to sing this.
