Disagree with Mike about the bridge deals. Not that it wasn’t a good idea. But they stupidly paid John $11M. Why should younger and superior ascending players be forced to wait? And Smol Willy was given shit for holding out and he was the only one underpaid after his ELC. Which means he was the only one they were remotely tough with. If I’m him I’d demand a trade to a short list of 5 teams. Fuck Toronto.

If you think Berube isn't a upgrade on Keefe your high. Keefe was out coached in every playoff the Leafs were in. Keefe learned on the job with a talented team but when it counts he couldn't come up with a different game plan and is a piss poor leadership skills.

That is pretty harsh and he was a victim of Shanahan, I highly doubt Berube will get them to the cup. He won't last 18 months. And Gallant would of been a better choice or Roy last year if Shanahan the balls to do this last year.

@@investinmichael Perhaps Berube, should the Leafs not win a 2025 playoff series, will be as mad, during his end-of-season presser, at those players on the Leafs' roster as after their April 2023 playoff series then-Winnipeg Jets' head coach Rick Bowness had been. Bowness' anger IMO was also a shot indirectly at Kevin Cheveldayoff (GM), Mark Chipman (Chairman) and other team execs who'd failed to put together a team capable of making deep playoff runs. After that month, but going into last preseason, those Jets had gone 2 straight seasons without a playoff series win and 5 without a conference final appearance. Earlier this month the Jets lost their only 2024 playoff series after having, in each game, allowed 4 or more goals before factoring in empty-netters. Among goalies of Canadian NHL teams that qualified for the 2024 NHL postseason, I see Cal Pickard and Silovs having performed relatively well but Stu Skinner, Connor Hellebuyck and Samsonov having not been as good.

He's OK - he would not be sought after had he not won the stanley cup that year. While that was great - and the turnaround - it was mostly about the goalie . After that he has had little if any success. It is not that he is a bad coach - it is that this team is poorly constructed .

Alex Steen and Bozak were huge in that STL cup win. They had players who could unleash a monster of themselves come playoff time and brought more than simply raw skill

You can't have a different set of rules in the regular season and the post season. If you build a team based on the presumption that the league wants to get away from the rough stuff and train kids to play a skill game as opposed to a physical game growing up, then change the expectations come playoffs, then they won't be prepared.

@@arthurkjr you could sign him to 4 million and play him on the 3 rd line, he wins 60% on face offs and can still put up 70 points, he had 65 this year cause he had a 10 game funk where he basically had no point,so take that out he was still a point a game player, just got to ride out this last year of hid contract,you know he wants to be here so 4 mil or see ya.Marner has to go,trade him for Soros plus, we need a good goalie and Soros can play 50 - 60 games, Marner disapears in the play-offs when it counts and we really need him he is a ghost in game 7's and is a perimiter player,that's not good for winning in the play-offs.

So this is what I’ll say about Marner. Marner is much like Adam Oates, he can skate and pass, he needs guys to score when he sets them up. He played all 7 games, the key to their team is to overwhelm the D. Unfortunately if Nylander and Matthews are out the opposition easily shutdown one player (look at Van or Dal shutdown multiple stars). Once Johnny's contract is up things will be good. Trading a star in their prime will be regrettable, ask Calgary.

Marner for saros frees up 6m in cap space giving the leafs a goalie and 24.5m in cap space. Resign Domi 4x4m and Bertuzzi 5x6m leaves 14.5m to resign Edmunston 3x3 and pesce 5x5m. Still enough to fill out the bottom 6.

They just need to talk to Mitch if he will sign for 9 or 10m and also ask JT if he will resign at 4 or 5m else plan the trade. Keep JT as captain if he stays. Sammy has to go. What always made me laugh about the Blues cup winning season is the fact that people actually thought it was a miracle or fluke. Fact is the Blues had no business being in last place in January or at any other time that season, that was the anomaly, they were a great team all along, they were just simply playing way under their capacity. With the right voice and yes, a hot goalie, they started winning at a pace that indicated the ship had been righted but they should have never been in that position to begin with. Berube made them realize the potential they had and lit the fire under them. Now, maybe he can work some magic for this team...problem is, he doesn't have a Bennington, Pietreangelo or Parayko...Treliving better start general managing...

Leafs Executives realistically should lower playoff expectations. If Leafs can just become playoff competitive that will be a major improvement. Leaf Executives sound foolish saying - just win now! Matthews might be lucky for the Leafs to have one single playoff run - in the rest of his career. If Matthews goes zero playoff runs career wise - it is possible with these Leaf Executives. 😀

I know Marner didn't have a good playoff year, but he did lead the team in playoff points last year. Petterson in Vancouver signed a big contract and hasnt done crap in the playoffs. It's a team effort so you cant put it on one guy.

The leafs could not adapt to opposition coaching every playoffs. The offense couldn’t score. The PP couldn’t score. The players underperformed every post season. The goaltending was a problem every year. I believe the two main problems with the Leafs were coaching and goaltending. There was zero accountability for bad play on the team. The team never played their best hockey in the postseason. The problem with the team is they can’t score in the playoffs. That’s what they needed to address. Domi and Bertuzzi didn’t help much. You either blame the entire team here or you look at the bigger picture. The coach. Why can’t they score? Because of the opposition coaching. Keefe could not adapt. He did not make adjustments that had any impact. Players like Brodie played bad the whole year and he did nothing about it for most of the season. Even when the Leafs won a series it required 3 OT goals (lucky goals) to win the series. The Leafs are consistently one of the top scoring teams. Why can’t they bring it in the post season? It’s not just the roster. They kept getting beat by defensive systems. Tavares had two points. Two when the number one center was out for essentially most of the series with illness or not playing.

The offense was scoring. It's the lack of post season Power Play goals that allowed the Bruins to beat the Leafs. And look at the Bruins? A wasted opportunity to advance whereas the Leafs would have probably fared much better versus Florida Panthers now that Matthews & Nylander returned to the lineup.

I would sign Marner to a long term contract in a jiffy. Hes highly talented. Just that he lacks point production in the post season based on his salary cap. Though he does other things quite well like penalty killing and defensive hockey.

Trade Marner for Soros, then sign Zadorov and/or Pesci and then figure out the forward lineup ... the only forward I for sure want back is Domi. Sorry but in my opinion Rod blew it. He had the better goalie and chose Freddy. After that ridiculous goal he gave up Rod should have made the switch at the very least but didn't. Again Freddy should never have been in game 6 and that's all on Rod.

You say Marner puts up numbers in regular season and is a no show in playoffs which I agree - but you strategically ignore the same for Matthews who puts up goals and is a no show when it counts as highest paid team player. Marner has 11 goals, 39 assists in 57 career playoff games Matthews has 23 goals, 25 assists in 55 career playoff games
